Great idea. Awful execution. Dumb name.

The sketcher is maddeningly cumbersome to use and trying to use it real time while doing an inspection is unthinkable. I’ve tried to use it a number of times to no avail. If you happen to draw a line improperly it’s virtually impossible to delete it or ‘back-up’. Sometimes the gla won’t tally up; you’ll be done with your sketch and there will just be no gla at all. This could be the least intuitive piece of software ever created.

Sketch

The sketching needs work especially since you can’t edit once you have imported to program.

Good inspection, but...

I've tried to use this AP a few times and find the data portion works well once it is customized (which takes a little while to get set up). The real limit on its usefulness is the sketcher which is really lame. I just attended a webinar put on by Bradford which gave a number of good tips including using the sketcher. And while I understand it takes some time to get efficient with an AP such as this, this sketcher is really limited. For instance, there are no symbols for doors, fireplace, etc. Also, all of the lines are the same (no variable line widths or solid and dashed lines available). And then once you get the sketch into the report, you cannot modify it within the report - you have to sync it back to the Inspect-A-Lot AP. Hopefully, Bradford will continue to improve it so that it will realize it's potential but it is not yet ready for prime time, especially since she stated in the webinar that you will have to have a gold or platinum membership to use it.

Major Defect

This latest update seems great, except for the fact that you can no longer "choose from existing photos" when taking the subject photos. This is especially annoying when you have a specific order in taking the photos. Please update app to allow the use of existing photos that I have already taken in the "exterior photos" Section.
Thank you

Response from developer

The new default is to always take photos in the app. This eliminates the dialog to choose your photo source. Much faster in the field. If you want to use an image from the Gallery, in the app's preferences you'll find the option ‘Select photos from Gallery’. Set this as 'On'. Return to Inspect-a-Lot and now when selecting the camera icon, you will be prompted to ‘take a photo’ or ‘pick from the gallery’ which is how it worked in previous versions.

Sketcher

Overall the app is looking good. However, the sketcher needs to have a feature to snap to, or align with previous points by using just the direction keys. This speeds up the process tremendously. Check out the Phoenix mobile sketcher.
