New to trading try Kalshi

Kalshi makes it clear that trading just involves answering yes or no to make a prediction. Don’t expect to win every trade but pick on what you want. I’ve selected positions on political outcomes, sports games, future oil prices and outcomes involving crypto. Many other topics are available as well. I’m new to trading and I find the app easy to navigate. I’m still learning and exploring topics that might interest me in the future. I like reading the rules for the trade and looking at when the payout should come if my prediction is correct. Sometimes, I decide not to trade based on the payout timeline or something in the contract that I don’t want. Be certain to wager only amounts you are willing to lose since no guarantee on winning exists.

FAQ

What is Kalshi?

Kalshi is the largest legal and federally regulated prediction market app in the U.S. It allows users to make money by predicting the outcomes of real-world events across various categories like sports, finance, and culture. You buy and sell contracts based on whether an event will happen or not.

How does trading on Kalshi work?

You trade contracts that represent the outcome of an event. For example, if NASA announces a manned mission to the moon, you can buy contracts if you believe it will happen. Contract prices reflect trader probability estimates and range from 1¢ to 99¢. At market close, each correct contract is worth $1.

Is Kalshi regulated?

Yes, Kalshi is federally regulated as a Designated Contract Market (DCM) by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Its affiliate, Kalshi Klear LLC, is also a CFTC-regulated clearinghouse that handles member funds and clears trades, ensuring a secure trading environment.

What kind of events can I trade on Kalshi?

You can trade on a wide range of events, including sports outcomes (NBA, NCAA, football, baseball, etc.), financial markets (S&P 500, oil, interest rates), economic indicators (inflation, GDP), climate events (hurricanes, temperatures), and cultural events (Oscars, Grammys, #1 hits).

How much money do I need to start trading?

The description mentions that contracts cost between 1¢ and 99¢. This suggests that a very small amount of money is needed to start trading on Kalshi, making it accessible to a wide range of users.
