Still can’t switch some on 30 mins before dusk

The system works very well but the previous version allowed you to switch on various items lights on 15..20…30 minutes before dusk but since you updated the version of software you can now only switch items on after dusk this is not great because you need to be able to switch on before a set time so that you can have various things come on like garden lights so I’m very disappointed that you have done another update and not put this feature back in that you took out on the previous version

Lights status

This is a great product, I have been using the app to control the lights outside the house with timers.

Two stars missing for the following two reasons:

This app can be improved a lot more. It would be great to see the status of the lights, currently I can’t tell if a light is on or off unless I look outside. Would be great if the switches sent a signal back to confirm the light is on or off and the app then shows this in the status of the lights.

I seem to have 8 devices connected to my link device, it would be great if I could see a list of these devices to review rather than removing all of these and then adding everything back on.

The product is great, works well and you get what you pay for but I feel like a lot more can be done to give us users more control by just improving the app.

Hope someone reads this and we see these features in the app updates soon.

You have the connect series which only performs one way communication. Our smart series products/app perform two way communication.

Frills over substance

Update November 2018
Have been using the Deta app since last year and everything just fine since BST finished I have had various problems and talked to support.
First up was the fact that the system clock on the thermostat didn’t update the year and so everything horribly confused.
Today we are back to the app and online manager saying everything is ok but the actual thermostat settings very different both in scheduled times and temperature.
Update December 2017
I had to accept defeat on your software. Fortunately I was recommended Deta Connect which appears to be your old software and works just fine.

July 2017
I am a long time Lightwave user and for value for money it is great and works consistently. To be able to be away from home and programme the lights and heating remotely is great.

This new app is a different thing though. I tried it when it was new and gave up going back to the original. However after changing the iPad I found the old app would not display full screen so tried this new app again.

My initial reaction remains unchanged. When you employ a contractor to do stuff don't get swayed by super whizzy graphics. Simplicity of use is the objective and to my mind this makes the whole thing more complex.
Now if they had made a more simple way of setting events, rather like the old heating interface that would have been better.

Lots, lots worse than used to be

I’ve had LightwaveRF products almost since they hit the market. When the link/app came on the scene it was fantastic; reliable and worked every time. Over recent years though, it’s become much less so. And now I’m hugely disappointed by it. It’s a 50/50 gamble whether it will work or not. I’ve logged my complaint with support and hope a fix appears. Soon! If I didn’t have so much of their stuff I’d bin it. I’ve recently had British Gas install Hive heating in my home and have tried adding a hive lightbulb to a lamp; brilliant! Works every time. Totally reliable. If BG increase the range of Hive products then I may well bite the bullet and replace all my unreliable LightwaveRF products. Come on guys....GET IT SORTED!

Another Buggy Update Version 3.2.22

I updated to version 3.2.22 yesterday and came home last night to find that lights that should not be on were now on. The updated has managed to turned on a timer that had been paused previously and now I can not pause any of my timers! I have tried everything to fix it as there is no support line at the weekend but nothing works. The only solution was to delete the timers that I do not wish to be triggered as they can not be paused within the app now.
When will this company throughly BETA check it’s updates. They seem to fix some issues but then cause other problems with things that had been working fine - so frustrating.

Works well

After a few initial teething problems in installing to our new garden office, system is working well, had a good experience with their customer service when encountered problems, always willing to help and try and solve the problems.

Maybe the bad reviews from an earlier time, will now be looking to install in rest of the house.

Major improvement

So my last review around 4 months ago I gave this app 1 star. Since an update around 3months ago the app has been working faultlessly for me, a massive improvement. I only use the app to control all the light switches in my house and so far so good! No more random log outs, the app seems a lot more stable and works when I want it to. Good work chaps. 👍

Absolutely Useless

I have been using lightwaveRF for about 2-3 years. The first app worked brilliantly for me. A few minor hitches that were rectified with the excellent support provided by Lightwave.
Recently updated the app to this version, the new version.
It has been absolutely rubbish, with lights randomly coming on and going off of their own accord. Timers not activating at the correct times and the lighting levels set, not working correctly.
The lag on the actions is awful, I am switching a light on from the app and several minutes later it comes on. Under the previous app it was almost instant - within a couple of seconds.

This needs far more work, and if you are not already invested in Lightwave products and about to buy in, I would hold off or look at an alternative system.

Lightwave, I am a very disappointed customer who was looking to upgrade to the generation two products, but I will not be investing until this app and the system works correctly.

Hi Thank you for feedback , we are continually working on our app and our products and constructive comments are how we improve our selfs , I would suggest contacting our technical support team again and seeing if they can help you with this. Just completely ruined

Lightwaverf listen to what your customers are saying, or say goodby to your customers, we won’t put up with this rubbish. You should be be pro’s at this now, it really doesn’t take a company this long to get it right.

Scrap all you have done and go back to the last version before your trashed a perfectly working app.

This is the 5th update since they decided to ruin a perfectly working app, yet it still have all the same problems as the first release.

Why go and change I do not know, before this my lightwaverf kit worked for years.

Lightwaverf, please give us the choice of going back to the old version. This version is unusable.

Your latest up date, they said they had fixed the logging out issue but it just logged out.

❌keeps logging out, it is relentless!!!❌

It’s really annoying. Just scarp all you have done and put the last version back up.

It’s got so many things wrong with this version, I don’t know where to begin.

Why did lightwaverf have to go and make all my equipment useless, I don’t know if they are doing it in house or they have got a developer in, but it’s a joke, the app does not work.

Really poor effort lightwaverf!

If there is a process to make you accountable for making all my invested equipment useless I shall be looking into it. It is really not acceptable to leave users with an app that is useless.

You have taken away features and made the app unreliable.

Doesn't work well

25 November 2017: the app is still randomly signing out, which is so annoying. But worse the app won’t pair with my on off sockets for my Christmas lighting... so it’s completely unusable. There was a way to pair something after creating it, but now I have to delete the item and try again. I’ve tried over 10 times, with 3 different sockets/modules and nothing new pairs to the app. I use it to turn my Christmas lights on and off and so they can cool down during the morning. Now I’ll just have to leave them running all day because I can’t be bothered spending more money on another timer.

6 August 2016:
Hasn't been updated since April... There is a very long delay on the new app, so if I use my phone to turn on or off the lights it takes a full 1 to 2 minutes to come on or off... It's so pointless when you actually need light and then have to wait! The old app still works instantly to turn them on or off!

Old review:
My devices on the old app respond almost instantly, but this new app takes 1 to 2 minutes to respond, sometimes not even responding. Not really sure why this is happening as the old app still works quick.

Poor quality of the app

Is letting this system down.
1) When creating a timer unable to select devices, ditto events
2) data on iPad differs from that on iPhone. I have two heating devices, on the iPhone they appear in their respective rooms but on the iPad only one room shows a heating device.

Update: getting better. Dear developer there is a function in the api which allows you to link a thermostat which say controls a zone to a thermostat that controls the boiler, which is very useful since you can only link one thermostat to the boiler control. At the moment I have written a program that does for me. Would be good if you could add this feature to the app.

New app somehow worse

I wrote this when they first updated, it’s got a bit better but not much has changed. Most notably it seems to now completely ignore commands if I’m not connected to the same WiFi network as the controller, so I’m watching my home on my nest cam, I can see a light has been left on but can’t switch it off. Wonderful.

Lightwaverf, please read your customer feedback. You new app looks better but often has huge delays now, particularly on start up, and it even then it seems to take much longer to adjust my lights around my home. It really is often much quicker to just get up and use the light switch, which completely defeats the point. Luckily I inherited my system from the previous owner but I’d be furious if I’d paid serious money for this.

Each new version worse then the previous

I appreciate that with each new iOS version, app builders have to adopt new restraints but over the years I have been using this app, it has, in my opinion, been getting progressively worse.
Latest annoyance is lack of feedback as to whether an instruction has been sent, received or attacked upon.
A lot of failed instructions seem to be because, now, for some reason, the app forgets I have logged in and just doesn’t mention the fact at all.
I also preferred the interface a few versions ago... it was less cluttered, easier to use and - gosh darn it - nicer.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix - oooops, too late.

Unintuitive app - badly needs in-app help

UPDATE FOR LATEST VERSION: Some improvement in the way the app works, for example dawn and dusk times are now actually correct! However the app no longer seems to retain my login details as I am now every time I want to change or pause/un-pause a timer I have to log in again. 5/10 for the update 😠

I don't often write reviews but felt I needed to for this app. The Lightwave product line is a good concept and apparently very flexible although so far i have only installed one electric switch. The real problem I am finding only after trying to set up this one switch with a schedule is that the app is just not intuitive. If I was more unkind I would say it was downright confusing. And this is an upgrade on previous apps!! Have the developers used any customer feedback??

Having said all that, it wouldn't have been soooo bad if the app had some reasonable help options but it doesn't. Come on Lightwave, if you continue to produce apps like this you will lose your customers!!

Ok software and products

The products are easy to install and configure, however after the latest update my heating schedule stopped working and had the set point changed to 27 & I am unable to re-link it to the hub. As a result I had to change the schedule in the actual thermostat. Are there some communications bugs that have been introduced with the latest upgrade in the app? This should be the same as before and should remain solid even after display and functionality tweaks. I think prior to any new updates the software should be throughly tested as it is trivial to have a working system and also users could be communicated in a better way in case there has been a mistake. What good is it to be able to add photos or dusk and dawn functions, when the app is struggling in the setup process and communications to some units? I have enjoyed to use lightwaverf for the past 3 years. Old ladies are not that techie, and will struggle specially if the heating is playing funny or sockets stop responding.
This needs to be fixed as a priority!

Some improvements, but still not as good as the previous version

I like that you can now select the heating state ( frost, away, running etc), however sometimes when trying to change state or temperature settings from remote it does not do anything which is really frustrating and the main reason for the system to be able to allow you to control your temperature from anywhere. Room pictures have gone and the icon for selecting pictures on the rhs of the screen does not work. The useful feedback message in the previous version has also gone, so you don't know if request has been accepted or not.
Earlier version was much more reliable and easier to use with many more features, not sure why you have taken a step backwards?

Getting worse by the day.

I’ve had this system 4 years. Unfortunately this app gets worse by the day. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app twice in the last week. I’ve seen lights working, then not working, then working again; all without making a single change to them. The login page keeps coming up despite the apparent fix. I’m looking at Gen2 replacements and expansion. However, given how poor this software is and the frustration this system is causing me/ other users in my house, LightwaveRF and upgrading to Gen2 is losing its appeal with each poor, badly tested release.

Lightwave products

I find this product truly amazing still after five years it still top in the market for rich features and it always works what people don’t realize is the software has to keep evolving I know people some time expect more but it takes time to get a product right and there is always going to be customers who expect so much more but on a technical stand point it will take time to get it right I’m sure once any faults are logged it won’t take to long for these to be sorted out keep up the good work at Lightwave it reassuring that your products have stood the test of time

What is actually new?

This new app revision looks new but it seems all they have done is fiddle with the surface (different font, different colours) but the same issues still exist - the heating controls, for example. I’m so glad I opted for Honeywell evohome for my heating rather than this system which I just use for electric underfloor heating in one room. It is so unfriendly/unhelpful. Like others, I’ve invested heavily in LightwaveRF hardware so it’s difficult to go back. But if you think this software is bad, take a look at the Lightwave Link Plus offering which looks like is was done by a Year7 student on a Sinclair Spectrum!

Poor software

The lightwaverf hardware product is good. However it is totally let down by the miserable software. This is the second version of their app. Their original version had problems and the new version was much awaited. Unfortunately it seems that they used the same software team, because they have come up with something that is no better. It looks a little slicker, but it is just as unreliable and poorly designed. It's amazing that a company can have a decent hardware product yet fail to invest in decent software engineers. I have a sizeable investment in lightwave hardware products so I am reluctant to admits defeat, but the software is bad enough that it probably necessary. I still have events/timers that don't work reliable or take a very long time. It's a combination of poorly designed and poorly implemented software. By contrast we have the hive system to control our house heating - that's much better software.
