Terrible Pointless

Just worthless

Force to pay to create event and join activities

Ridiculous, used to be good. Used to use this app for the longest time, but now don’t bothered too much about it, the whole purpose of this app has gone! people try to bring people together by just simply create an event isn’t even possible, the force you to pay something that you don’t even know whether this app is good or not (for first timer, especially…)

Seriously, go back to using Meet-ups! Trust me

Can’t get past onboarding

Gave it all my info only for it to get stuck on the profile picture step. Come on…

Kira’s @howtofit Breaflex club is excellent!

Absolutely love this app. It’s allowed me to connect with likeminded individuals and has introduced me into the world of breath work :) it has helped me tremendously whilst allowing me more time to do things that I really enjoy :)

Amazing customer service

Good app for socialising and meeting new people, but what really stands out is their customer service. I was locked out of my account and they helped me resolve it easily and in short time. They are quick to respond and very helpful. Thank you locals team 🧚‍♀️ 💖

Just a data collecting app

Heard smth about this app at YouTube. Tried to use it. Before you’ll have a chance to even take a look - what is that, you have to put:
1) phone number
2) first and last name
3) DOB
4) photo
5) what is your interests
6) email
and more.
Are you crazy? Even the bank gets less data, but there is a clear idea why. Looks like a complete scam.

Completely scam

This is not a genuine app

Too many updates!!!!

There are way too many updates and you can’t delete a club without contacting customer service. Other than that it is a great platform to meet new people!

You can't sort by distance so useless

So it's a great idea. I like it, but the fact that you can't view events or groups by distance really defeats the purpose. I'm in London, and I'd like to see events or groups closer to me. London is quite a big place, and instead, it just shows loads of events in London, which could mean an hour's travel. I don't want to travel an hour. This is such an obviously missing feature. I can only believe it's done by choice, which makes the app pointless.

Response from developer

Hi Tom, thanks for your feedback 🙏 We get why that feels frustrating! The feed is designed to automatically prioritize events closest to you, so most of what you see should already be nearby. If you don’t see anything close by, it usually means there aren’t events happening in your immediate area at the moment, and the app shows the next closest options automatically. We really appreciate you sharing this perspective—it helps us understand how we can make the experience even better for big cities like London 💛

Phenomenal User Experience

I’m a developer myself and really appreciate the craft that went into this app. Very cool!

Locals

Very easy and efficient process. Look forward to their events

“It’s time to update” and plenty of low-effort “chat rooms”

Has potential, for now, it's wasted. There are some events, if you’re lucky enough to find them without an opportunity to filter and focus on your needs. Some “events” are nothing but a landing page for WhatsApp groups, I think this shows that the interface and the app, in general, are not working for their purpose. At the same time, you need to craft your profile page as if it is a dating app (and some random people will treat it as such, especially if you are organising events).

- This app aggressively asks for updating: a pop-up message blocks everything, and it's seen way too often. Imagine Instagram or YouTube doing so.
- There are too many “chat rooms” where happens nothing, especially offline.
- Even when you are in London, if you are looking for a fun activity for this particular evening in your area, you will dedicate your evening to doom-scrolling through all these “Entrepreneurs connect!”, “27-29 speed-dating nights”, and “30-32 y.o. Desi women circle Notting Hill”.
- If you create your event, you will accept dozens of requests to join but there is a non-zero chance that no one shows up. It's predictable and it's not about the app, but still.
- No filtering, there’s no slightest possibility to focus on your neighbourhood or demographics. Many “communities” are extremely specific in their entry requirements, and there’s no chance not to have them in your feed if they basically don’t want to have you.
At the same time, if you want to create something specific and local, there is no chance to target only those who are interested.

Bad experience

I installed this a while back and never used it. It gave me daily notifications to try and get me to engage. Eventually I caved and tried to set up a profile, only to be told the email was already in use (must have made a profile ages ago and forgot).

The app gave me no way to recover my old account, and it wouldn’t let me sign in with my email, so I guess it’s getting uninstalled.

If they can’t get the basics of a log in experience right, I don’t have high hopes for the rest of the app.

Rough experience, and pretty empty

I tried this app a couple of times, and while the design is pretty nice, it kept freezing. And when it wasn’t freezing, there wasn’t really much going on in there. Oh well…back to crappy Meetup 🤦🏻‍♂️

best app to connect to local communities

5 stars!

Don’t waste your time

If you’re not located in LA or NYC don’t bother downloading this app. There are barely any events in other cities. I’m in Atlanta and could only find 2 that were actually local. To make matters worse, there isn’t a way of only seeing events that are close to your location, so good luck scrolling through hundreds of groups that are based in LA or NYC just to find one near you.

Response from developer

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We totally get it—right now, our main communities are based in cities like LA, NYC, London, and a few others, but we’re always looking to expand to new places. We know it’s frustrating scrolling through events in other cities, and we’re working on improving that! In the meantime, you could help kick off a community in Atlanta—would love to see it grow there 🙌 We appreciate your input, and are excited to grow with you!

I like it

Suggestion:
It would be nice to have a live chat feature to meet people nearby, similar to the Couchsurfing app. Someone suggested implementing a mandatory donation for every event, but I don't think that's fair. This could discourage many people from participating. I believe the decision to require a donation should be left to the host, as making it mandatory might reduce the number of participants.

Hi Fr3Mia, thanks so much for your thoughtful suggestions! We truly appreciate you sharing your ideas about the live chat feature and donations for events–our users' feedback always helps us improve the app 🚀 Thank you for being an active member of Locals! Warmly, Locals team

Absolutely LOVE

I absolutely love this app! I was using it quite frequently to attend new experiences + meet other people. However, I got a new phone and wanted to log into the app but that option is not available. It only gives the option to sign up (create a new profile). This is unfortunate because any user in this same predicament would need to start all over. Note to developers and local team: can you add the ability to log in for those who already have an account? Much gratitude!🫂

Thanks so much for the love—we're so happy to hear you’ve been enjoying the app! We totally understand the frustration with logging in on your new phone. No worries though, just shoot us an email at support@locals.org, and we’ll get your phone number updated so you can log back in without starting over 🙌 Warmly, Locals team

Nothing in Leeds?

Maybe I’m missing something… the app knows I live in Leeds yet promotes London & Manchester events to me. I’ve seen nothing for Leeds at all. So literally not “local”. So far pointless.

Meh

Only works in like BIGBIGBIGBIG cities. I wouldn't bother making an account unless you live in places like London, Paris, or L.A. I like the idea of the app but the closest events are thousands of miles away.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for your feedback! We completely understand your frustration, and are excited to let you know that we’re growing quickly. Right now our main hubs are located in big cities, but we’re working hard to expand to more locations. Hang in there – we hope to bring awesome events to each and every city out there (:
