Watch out for hidden fees!

Didn’t sign up for this. Was told by friend to try. No services provided, no worthwhile groups found, didn’t use and was charged over $100.
Well done meetup! Thanks. Enjoy the money!

Struggling to search in this app

Been trying to use this app for a while now but the main issues I face with it are, the discover search is lacking - it rarely, if ever, actually gives you hits related to your search term and often doesn’t even show events that I know are happening in my area. A quick AI question suggests it’s because the app is preferentially trying to feed you new groups and new events rather than ones you might actually want to go to. Also, when trying to search through the various events in your groups/home section, it could do with more filter options so you can search by a specific date range or time of the day or whether it is free or not. These changes would make the user experience much more enjoyable and encourage me to consider actually paying for the app but for now there’s no way I’d want to put any money into it.

Yet another app destroyed by Bending Spoons

Another fairly decent app destroyed after being acquired by Bending Spoons, one of the shadiest, most horrible tech companies (and I use the term loosely) out there.
I admit, I haven’t used it for a while but I moved to a new city and wanted to meet new friends. Only to find that my account has been removed and the app has become a subscription-based thing owned by Bending Spoons. I’m sure it’s just riddled with the worst UX possible, constant ads because the only thing they’re good at is harvesting data to sell.
Deleted with the quickness!

What a ride

Meetup went from being an amazing site to build community, discover community, run a community, and the rapid decline has been spectacular to witness. It wasn't Bending Spoons' fault but they aren't doing anything to improve the situation post-acquisition. Real shame.

Removed our group due to their own mistake

We made a group for “young adults” and after it was reviewed it said we needed to specify it was 18+, so we said it was 18+ in the description, then it was reviewed again and removed for being “aimed at children” which it never was. And they forced us to go on a trail for the subscription to make a group, which will charge us even after they prevent us from creating a group. There is no way to appeal if they remove your group either. I bet AI does all the reviews so they don’t have to hire people, that’s how it missed something so obvious. Probably “young” made the ai flag it. If you are outsourcing reviews to AI at least let people appeal the rejection.
