Poor, constantly repeating signup pressure with a tiny x to leave the page in an attempt to get you to accidentally sign up which I did once but received a refund from Apple as Meetup refused
Don’t use open it or use it!
I have recently opened meetups a few times looking for groups to join & hiking groups.. I recently found a dozen charges $12.99 each time I opened the app? I had no idea it was so expensive & it is not clear where/how ? They charge you for looking for local groups?! Absolutely terrible app now! Don’t use it!

Buggy and awful
After discontinuing the organizer app my account has never been the same. I lost access to most everything and have been using a basic account for the year even though I paid $300/for an organizer account. I even recently lost access to my own discussion board for a couple months. Every time I set up a support ticket with their IT team, nothing is resolved and there is poor communication.

So many bugs in UI, how?
This app has so many glitches and bugs in the UI, I can’t imagine how someone looked at that and said “yes, that looks good. Ship it“ so many basic operations either don’t work or leave you trapped in a screen you can’t get out of.

The list of your groups is entirely useless, never showing relevant events happening when a simple search will yield them. For what they charge organizers, they really should be doing a better job!

Advertised free trial but charged me for a year
It said I had a free 7-day trial, followed by a yearly $169.99 fee. I accepted but was charged the full amount and not given a free trial. Apple also denied my refund request! Absolute scam and I am exploring legal options.
Used to be amazing
This used to be amazing place to connect with like minded people but now they are sabotaging it with over monetization. Making both the organizers and members pay is just too greedy and ruins what used to make this a success.
Why still a 4.7 rating?
Going through the recent comments, the ratings are at best a 3 star, mostly 1 and 2’s for the past year. For good reasons. Very suspicious. I deleted it a few months ago because mostly it was taking up 70 G of space. How? I don’t know. The app is just garbage all around. Don’t download it and definitely don’t pay for it.

Meetup Needs an Upgrade.
The site is hard to navigate and is overlaid with too many offers. Meetup unwittingly made it accessible to so many for free, and now Meetup wants to monetize the engagement for the simplest things necessary to build community. I get more offers than progress on what I’m looking for.
And setting up events is a nightmare. It automatically links to only one meeting room at library events.

The app has become awkward to use now due to the huge number of times the “Pay us lots of money” pages keep popping up. It’s seriously impacted the user experience and has made it unenjoyable and annoying, including making it much harder to find groups that you might want to join.
I’m curious if someone will start a competitor that’s not primarily a self advertising app. I’d definitely switch.

Made the right choice
08/06/2026 Seems people really hate this app and for good reasons. One guy complained about 2 gig of stored cache. Try 70 gig. Not a joke. How it skyrockets its cache alone warrants deleting this garbage app.
How is this app still rated 4.7? Virtually every review for the past year is negative. Very suspicious. Deleted this garbage app in mid March and given the recent reviews I made the right choice. Why anyone would pay money for it is insane.

Cannot cancel membership
I have never used this app and it keeps charging me monthly with no way to cancel.
Nothing but spam
If you install this app, you will be constantly barraged by notifications from scammers who create accounts to post the same phishing scam to multiple meetups groups. As soon as you report them, their account will be deleted, but they will immediately create a new one. The app is nearly unusable due to the sheer volume of spam, and Meetup.com are either unable or unwilling to control it.

This app flood you with constant scam message and when you try and press “Report” nothing happens.. very sketchy!
