No autorenew reminder
They don’t send a reminder that they’ll charge you for a whole year for the annual renewing subscription, and it’s a pain to ask for a refund. Pretty shady.

Been over a month and no reviews. Your zendesk app won’t take my email address for bug reports. Stuck!

They say an update is coming soon! I hope the update has a handsfree conversation mode so i can practice chating but also get handsfree feedback to practice conversation skills while driving. That would really make the AI useful. The only concern is I see now they want to charge extra. If they don’t add this to the features and want more money I would just swerve the brand. The existing stuff is already stale. The whole brand is at risk of being obsolete with the ai features already feeling very outdated. They were the first but it really hasn’t improved since then.

Also the splash screens for hitting the daily goal are a bit distracting. It would be nice to be abled to toggle those off or toggle off the daily goal completely. I love the practice reminder notifications and using it daily but i dont like being spammed in the app.
Also a small thing is the words are not auto accepted based on using ´ instead of the more vertical ´. Maybe have alternate accepted answers?
It would also be great to have access to the beta labs in the app. When i try to use them in browsers i cant really get them to work. They seem really cool though! Looking forward to the future of Memrise!

Horrible Customer Service
A few years ago I paid for the lifetime upgrade and since then I had to buy a new phone. Well guess what? The lifetime membership did not transfer. I emailed customer service about and they asked me if I still had the receipt EVEN THOUGH THEY COULD SEE IT ON THEIR END THAT I HAD PURCHASED IT. And of course I don’t have a receipt for something that I paid for over FIVE years ago. They take forever to reply to emails and they still haven’t gotten back to me.

Soulless robots and AI. Used to be better.
I used to spend hours and hours on Memrise, about a decade ago. I used it again a few years ago to study a language. Now Memrise is all about promoting its AI robots, which either are costing them tons and environmentally damaging, or are oft-used practice convos that aren’t really AI but they’re that terrible at branding it. This alone would be a dealbreaker. The app also lost its user flexibility it once had: people’s learning lists made way for “you must learn these words, in these lessons” and it’s too controlled, locked down, and not fun. Ditch the AI.

It’s the best language learning app I’ve ever used
This makes you listen to the words, write the words and say the words. The way they have you repeat really makes it stick. I really enjoy the teaching method and format. I’m learning Arabic. Before this it was really weak but I recently went Saudi as was able to hold conversations for the first time. I’ve recommended this to many of my friends that were trying to learn Arabic for years. It’s great. You can do a lesson a night. It’s great for adults and kids.

Used to be my favorite app for language learning 10 years ago. If I were able to opt out of using AI to advance (like it used to be!) then I wouldn’t mind still using it, but since I can’t, it’s bye-bye.

App not working well
I love the app but lately things have not been loading correctly. For example, I’d start studying my words and they do not get recorded as « started » at all. It’s like I haven’t even taken the lesson. The review session also does not get recorded. I’d start out with 76 words, review 10, and it’d still be 76 words. If I press again, it’s the same 10 words I just practiced. Please fix.

I think it’s got a bug because I keep going over the same ol’ lessons. It might be because I had to upgrade phones.

Memrise is broken & No way to Report It!
The current state of Memrise does not save any of your progress. You complete a lesson in the Scenarios section, and when you return to the page, it is like it never happened.
As a workaround I manually update my streak to keep the count going.
If you log out and back in, your streak is back to zero and all progress is lost. You are set back in time to an earlier level.
Something broke along the way but nothing has been fixed!
And, there is no way to report this issue! The help section has documentation without any way of contacting support directly.
Since I cannot save progress for one to two weeks now and nobody has fixed it, this has become a one star app!

Great until it's not
This app I can see potential in being more conducive and productive in learning languages. But as of the last update, the entire Learn Words set of modes are broken. By broken, I mean none of the completions are saving for ANY of the languages. To make it worse, the customer support/bug report from memrise is honestly disappointing in multiple ways. Automated responses without human review for days, closing out tickets automatically, etc. Unfortunate as the app feels super unusable in its current state with nobody on the memrise team willing to review nor acknowledge this issue, where I imagine they're also neglecting more people than just me. Sad.
