I don’t have spare money to spend on this app

I was really starting to love this app until the paywall came up. For some reason I thought something like this was solely made as an act of empathy and care to help people, but I forget the world is run on money. And even then its way too over priced no matter how good the info is or could may help, I can find help other places for cheap or free. unless the money is going somewhere that can actually help people, what’s the point of paying? Sorry waste of time, deleted, and to anyone else out there that loves this app and the aid it brings, then that’s cool that’s fine just not for me with how much it is.

From an LMHC, pleasantly surprised 🙌

I never write reviews but this one deserves a nod. I have downloaded plenty of self help apps over the years and have fallen off after a couple days or have found them to be clunky to use. Mend is truly helpful. I downloaded it because I was going through a heartbreak that I really couldn’t let go of, and 3 months later, I can truly say that it’s getting better and Mend has been a part of that.

Also noteworthy, I’m a licensed mental health counselor so I have pretty high standards (and also skepticism and lack of patience) with this stuff.

Why it works— the practices are short daily audio clips with short journal prompts that you can just type into your phone (or I got into the habit of voice-to-text it). You can log your mood for the day (with cute icons), self-care activities, and read articles. So it’s all intended to be a short and sweet daily practice. Less than 5 min, really. And knowing what I know about psychology, that’s why I think/know/have found it works.

Also, the app is just really user friendly and pleasant visually.

I spent the money for 2 of the programs and I plan to continue to explore what else they have available, even though I’m at a place where I don’t really feel I “need” it anymore.

Really nice work to the creators of Mend. Bravo in your intention and execution. 👏

easy to use and really works but not enough self care

I just resumed my subscription for a second break up. I found mend a few years ago when I was truely heart broken when I broke up with the man Who was my soul mate. I really do attribute mend and the journals to helping me get back on the horse and in another healthier relationship just 4 months after. I honestly don’t think I would have said yes to him and I would have missed so much love.

So here I am, break up again. Different reason different circumstances and mend is bringing new and different things out in me.

The only thing that really irks me about the app is how few “self care” choices there are. I wish there was a “fill in the blank option” I would love to keep track of my self care but there what they have doesn’t fit me and what I do. Like spa. Spa should totally be an option.

Inaccessible for Lower Income People

I’ve used Mend over the years as needed and it’s been enormously helpful in my healing of past heartbreaks. Over the years it went from entirely free to exorbitantly expensive. I understand there are costs to maintain staff, have those great articles, salaries, support… I just wish they had cheaper options for people who can’t afford to spend a minimum of $60 for the most basic level program.

It gives richer people access to resources and perpetuates the idea that if a certain class/income bracket of people can’t afford it, they don’t deserve it, and they’ll have to fend for themselves.

Elle please make another app for lower income women or create a simpler program that costs less. Something that charges weekly instead of every 3mo.

Needs some honeing

I’ve been using the app for about two months now and I didn’t have a chance to use it before the major update but a few nitpicky items:
-I hate the pictures of faces when it asks how you are feeling. They are confusing, poorly drawn and don’t display enough emotions to convey how someone is feeling that that
-what is the purpose of putting in how we feel/write in our journal/self care, all of these check ins when they don’t consolidate the data or do ANYTHING WITH IT to show our progress? All we see is a circle that’s half full? Why not make it impactful for us to see our progress in visuals? Something?
-after finishing the checklist, there’s VERY few articles to read, it was only useful the first day. It’s almost a cop out, making it seem like we are getting more for what we paid, when we don’t. Currently this app is not worth the $60 and definitely not worth continuing on using unless these updates are made.

Well worth it

I highly recommend Mend. This is the first app review I have ever written because I believe this is a great product. The lessons have given me comfort during heartbreak but also helped me process what happened and develop a new perspective and forgiveness to move on. I don’t agree with everything it says, but I like how the app asks for your feedback and caters the lessons around you. Review the journals has been extremely valuable. Definitely worth it as a supplement to any work you are currently doing!

Heartbreak recovery

I was going through two major break ups with two guys I thought I could have future with . One break up happened in 2018 and I was not familiar with apps that are available to heal me and then I found this app and I like how every day I get up to a support where I can feel like myself and I can learn new topics everyday and practice those topics with me . I also had another break up in 2020 and the similar thing happened the break up happened after 7 months . I did see so many red flags in the relationship but did not realize there won’t be any future with this person . I like how in one lesson I learned that the future we see in our relationship is not always a future we think is meant for us .

Thank you

Love the concept, needs work.

I found the first 12-15 days SO tremendously helpful. The trainings were relevant, the journaling prompts gave me a space and time for my feelings so I could stop focusing on them all day, and I really felt like I was making progress. Then the trainings suddenly became really irrelevant, even though I was selecting the topics I felt would be most helpful. Two weeks out of a tremendously painful breakup, I don't want to hear encouragement to start dating again, or what to look for in a next partner, or really anything about the future other than taking care of myself, grieving, letting go. I rarely listened to the trainings after this shift, so I paid for 3 months of content when I barely used 1. I wish you either could work on the consistency/relevancy of the trainings, or have shorter time periods of commitment available. Really great start, disappointing finish.

Mostly love, but some suggestions

Mend has been tremendously helpful navigating a breakup that has left me feeling utterly heartbroken. However, I feel that some of the trainings aren’t always the most helpful. For example, my training today was about “why you keep going back to your ex” and one of the possible reasons was seeking validation. I’m not going back to my ex partner and never used him as a way to seek validation. Like I said, I really do love this app, but wish the reasons for breaking up we’re more broad. I couldn’t find anything that fit the end of my relationship specifically, and perhaps that is why I’ve found a few trainings unhelpful.

Got Over My Heartbreak in a Day

I gave this app 2 stars because it helped me to get over my break in a day. After, I saw the prices to continue after the 1st day that is. That cured me of wanting to spend any more time and money in this case. I'm not about to spend my hard earned money when I don't even really know what I'm getting after 1 day. I already wasted enough time on a one sided relationship as it is. Don't get me wrong I do like the concept of this app. I just think the prices are a little steep. At the very least this app could offer a free 7-14 day trial to see if it's even worth the cost going forward.

Cash grab app

Don’t waste your time, you’re better off going to the store and buying a spiral notebook and telling yourself that it’s not your fault your relationship ended over and over again. This app pretty much just forces you buy a “program”(and by the way, the “programs are pretty expensive), and if you don’t purchase one, it only asks you how you’re feeling today by choosing a smiley face that suits you, and then tells you to start journaling. ABSOLUTE CASH GRAB APP NOT AT ALL INTERESTED IN HELPING YOU GET OVER AN EX. Oh and the articles that they have on the app, are pretty much useless, they don’t go into a psychological detail about why you’re feeling the way that you are or why your ex was the way they were. Just a bunch of repetitive positive affirmation stuff that honestly don’t get you anywhere. CASH GRAB APP

Really disappointed

This app was recommended to me during a session I had with a counselor on a text hotline. I really am struggling and I was hopeful for this app. You take a lil questionnaire explaining your situation so the app can accommodate to yours. So far so good. As soon as I got that done I had to rate my mood for that day, listen to maybe a 5 min recording, and journal how I felt and what I wanted to accomplish in the app. First day done, nice. Now, after the first day you have to subscribe for the recordings which I find really upsetting. Without the recordings all you can do is track your mood and how many days it’s been since the breakup. You can still journal too but what’s the point if you’re not really getting any advice, I might as well type out my feelings somewhere else. Basically, if you want actual help you have to pay a good amount to receive it.

Built with love, needs work

Sometimes this app says exactly what you need to hear. Sometimes it makes you think of things you never would have thought of, teaches you about yourself, tells you everything will be okay and makes you believe it. These are beautiful things. However, it’s undercut significantly by glitches within the app. Although the interface is incredibly simple (it looks like a chat between you and your friend), it glitches almost daily by duplicating responses and questions. This is annoying, but fine. Today, my training was a disaster. I specified that I was broken up with, and that the reason was “fell out of love”, meaning my partner no longer loved me and broke up with me. Today, my training was taken from the switched perspective, and I had to listen to two minutes of “maybe if you’re willing and your partner is willing, you may fall in love again!”. It was cruel to hear about a reality that is not possible, but one I want. To top it off, the journal prompt was “What factors contributed to me falling out of love with my partner?”. My answer: “I didn’t.”

The app should make sure trainings like this are not available to those who have been broken up with, because otherwise, it makes a crappy day so much worse for it’s paying users.

Waste of (a lot of) money

I wanted to like this app, and some people actually recommended it to me. However, it is SO EXPENSIVE, and I felt like the sessions got worse and more generic AFTER I spent the money. It also isn’t clear up front that the first seven days are free. I thought I had to make a decision after the first training, and I was in such a bad place that I just signed up and spent the money. I feel like this app preys on people going through a hard time, and once you spend the money, no one cares about actually helping you deal with what you’re going through. There’s also no way to get a refund. I tried to push through since I spent $110, but the last few “sessions” have been generic and entirely not applicable to my situation in any way.

It’s basically a bunch of 3-5 minute podcasts that I feel like you could find for much cheaper anywhere, and the rest of the content isn’t any better than what you could find on elite daily or the Odyssey. Very disappointed and would not recommend.

Mend for everyone?

I was pretty disappointed when I found what mend had to offer. Forget the almost immediate paywall. This is the world we live in now, I guess. I selected infidelity as the reason for my breakup because that was the closest to a breech of trust. But I was the one who broke the trust. The fact that this app didn’t even account for that possibility let me to wonder if I was even worth it. I’m still struggling, and I thought the stories from others might help. I know from the App Store that the creator is female. I know I’m not entitled to every app catering to me, but the story I read quoted the creator saying how she knew this experience is universal. I have emotions, and I can be haunted by past with the best of them. I’m not a breakup scientist, so maybe there is something significantly different among how genders react to the end of a relationship. I was hoping this app would be there to help me through that, but it seemed mostly geared to people more or less like the creator. Not surprising, but still disappointing. Good thing I have a backup of crying and dancing to songs we listened to in the middle of the night 2 years later.

Used to love it when it was free/ disappointed in the update

I used to love this app and live by it. I turned all my friends on it and would recommend it (and Elles podcast) to everyone I met.

I’m so disappointed to see the pricing model, it is so not affordable and absolutely dismissive of the working class. This app is no longer accessible to anyone who isn’t willing to shell out $60-$150.

I understand the need to make revenue and that capitalism affects everything, yet, I am incredibly disappointed in Elle & her team for choosing a pricing model that is unaffordable to most people (and the people who might need this most because they can’t afford therapy etc.)

It is also awfully dehumanizing and rude to say that “mend is as adorable as a latte a week!”. It’s a full $70 breaking it down to “a latte a week”‘isn’t going to make anyone feel better.

This used to be a life saver for me. It felt like Elle and her team really cared about the individuals, the community, and the healing they were bringing to folks. I enjoyed it while it lasted but I will not be subscribing because I cannot afford it.

Great help to move past heartbreak

A friend suggested that I take a look at this app to help me get through a recent break up a month ago. After a 13 year relationship, I suddenly found myself feeling very alone, sad and having a really hard time moving past the break up, especially since it was not my choice. I have only been a member for a couple days but so far it has already helped me tremendously knowing that other peoples stories are similar, and knowing I will move past the pain and it will be OK. It really gives you some great resources, daily check in and affirmations and is helping me to maintain a positive outlook. I would recommend anybody give this a try.

This App is Giving Yourself the Best Give You Can

I love Mend. After going through numerous breakups in my life, I was always looking back—questioning, analyzing, suffering—and the hardest thing is to do was to just accept and move forward. Mend makes it easier to do so. The positive reinforcement to take care of yourself, being okay with how you feel in the moment, and providing encouragement you need to make yourself stronger I think is the best gift you can give yourself by using Mend.

Great app

I love this app, it’s perfect for a quick pick me up or to set the tone for the day. I listen to my daily session on my way to work and do a quick journal entry before clocking in. It helps me start the day with healing in mind and not let myself fall into a rut. The only complaint I have is that in continues to prompt you to do a session when you’ve already done it for the day. I keep thinking it has another one for me and I’m always bummed to find that there’s no more for the day, it just keeps reminding me anyway. Other than that it’s great.

My heart is healing 🥰

This app has been one of my best self-help and self-love purchases ever. After the devastating loss of a long-term relationship, I was having a hard time coping and accepting my new normal. But the daily check-in, audio session, journaling, and notifications kept me on track with healing and embracing my new future!!

Not every audio session is what I need BUT listening to each has given me insight and ignition to continue moving forward ❤️

Thank you sincerely!!! 🙏🏻
