Minga caused World War II
i actually think about this sometimes because people always talk about how history gets changed by huge events and important decisions, but i feel like nobody thinks about how something really stupid could have changed everything. like what if the entire reason someone ended up going into politics was just because a school app made their bathroom pass way too short.
imagine being a student trying to become an artist. you have been practicing for years, you have an important art exam coming up, and you're actually pretty confident that you can do well. you sit down, get your pencils out, start working, and then you realize you need to use the bathroom. normally this would not be a problem at all. you would just go, come back, and continue your exam. but then you remember that your school uses Minga.
so you open the app and request a bathroom pass and it gives you 6 minutes. at first you're thinking that's probably enough, but then you actually have to walk all the way to the bathroom, use it, wash your hands, and get back to class. suddenly you're watching the timer instead of thinking about your art. you keep checking it because you don't want the pass to expire, and the more you check it the more nervous you get.
now you're in the bathroom and you're thinking about your exam, you're thinking about the timer, you're thinking about how long it took you to get there, and you're wondering if you're gonna make it back in time. instead of taking a normal bathroom break and coming back relaxed, you're rushing because you feel like Minga is about to punish you for taking too long. by the time you get back to class you're already stressed out and you've completely lost your concentration.
you sit back down and try to continue your art exam but you can't focus anymore. you keep thinking about the bathroom pass and whether it expired and how much time you wasted. you try to draw something but it doesn't look right. you erase it and try again, but now you're even more stressed because the exam is running out of time too. eventually the exam ends and you realize you completely messed it up.
so you fail the art exam.
and that's where i start thinking about what could have happened if Minga just gave students a little more time. what if the bathroom pass was 10 minutes instead of 6? maybe you don't panic. maybe you get back to class without rushing. maybe you finish your drawing. maybe you pass the exam. maybe you actually get into art school and become an artist.
but instead you failed, and now you need to figure out what you're going to do with your life. you wanted to be an artist but that didn't work out, and now you need a job. you start looking around trying to figure out what you can even do, and somehow politics becomes an option.
so you turn to politics because you need a career.
and then i start wondering how different everything could have been if Minga just had a slightly longer bathroom pass. maybe you would have stayed in art. maybe you would have spent your whole life painting. maybe nobody would have ever heard of you outside of the art world. instead, according to this completely made up scenario, you ended up in politics because you failed an art exam after panicking over a six minute bathroom pass.
and honestly six minutes is not even that long when you think about everything you actually have to do. you have to leave the classroom, walk to the bathroom, maybe wait if someone is already there, use the bathroom, wash your hands, walk back, and get into class again. if the bathroom is farther away or there's literally anything slowing you down, suddenly you're running out of time. and if you're already stressed about an exam, watching a timer count down is probably the last thing you need.
i feel like whoever decided on the six minute limit probably just thought it sounded reasonable. they probably weren't thinking about someone being in the middle of an important exam and getting so stressed about the timer that they can't concentrate anymore. they definitely weren't thinking that the person might fail their art exam, give up on becoming an artist, and then decide they need to find another career.
that's why the whole thing is funny as a what-if. the person who made the Minga bathroom policy is just doing their job and has no idea that, in this completely fictional version of history, they accidentally caused someone to abandon their artistic career.
if Minga had given 10 minutes, maybe the exam goes better. maybe the person gets into art school. maybe they become an artist and never have any reason to go into politics. but because the pass was only six minutes, they panic, fail the exam, and suddenly they need to find another way to make a living.
so now they turn to politics because they need a job.
obviously this isn't how actual history works and there were obviously much bigger reasons behind someone's career choices, but as a stupid review of Minga i think it's pretty funny to imagine that the whole thing started with a bathroom pass. Minga was supposed to help schools keep track of students, but in this scenario it basically became the thing that ruined an aspiring artist's exam and forced them to start looking for a completely different career.
all because six minutes wasn't enough.

Bad for students
There is basically nothing to like about the five-minute timer. Bathrooms are far away from classrooms and you might spend half of that time simply walking to and from the bathroom. That gives you VERY little time to actually use the restroom.
What if you're sick and need to vomit? That could take well over five minutes. What if you have diarrhea or a medical emergency? What if you have a medical condition that requires more than five minutes in the bathroom?
Minga sucks and should be abandoned by the school system.
