Sound good, interface bad

The minirigs DO sound great. However the UI is terrible, and as another commenter explained, more than one button would obviously be better. The app to connect everything is buggy and inconsistent, and for me at least, even plugging in with analog jacks is hit and miss. Even when I get it to work, suddenly it will stop for no apparent reason. I keep waiting for a software update to fix it, but hasn't happened. I think the team at Minirigs put all their effort into good sound, but not much into everything else.

Intermittent connection and pairing

I spend more time waiting, trying to troubleshoot to connect one or both minirig speakers to my iPhone. So, so, frustrating! After years of use, it is impossible to pair two speakers!!

Hot Trash.

Does not connect or remember settings easily.

Abysmal

Device is OK, louder than any Bluetooth speaker I’ve ever experienced but this app is unbelievably awful. It’s like a sixth form project but they just couldn’t be bothered to finish it.

Just won’t work

I have 2 Minirig 4s and a subwoofer..set up for 2.1. Speakers are amazing! App is useless, in fact it interferes with the Bluetooth making it actually worse! Such a shame, don’t download it.

0/10

The worst App EVER!

Minirig 4

150 notes on the MINIRIG four and I can’t even connect to the app , I’ve had all the mini rig series and never been disappointed but surly that should be one of the main things to do when you drop a new speaker 🤷🏼‍♂️

Great for renaming only and eq

Everything else is unreliable and inconsistent

Still terrible app

Thought I’d come and see if the app had been updated. It’s hasn’t so is still worse than useless. So if you’re about to buy I’d say buy only on the basis you won’t use the app - you won’t use it because you can’t, but on the upside, the speakers work fine without it. The instructions for use are good enough to get started, link two units and cut the sound. The app only offers pain and frustration so don’t download it and certainly don’t expect it to enhance your experience. Quite the opposite.

Horrible connectivity issues

Speaker is amazing and I have a few of them, but the app is an embarrassment.. they are introducing a web application now but still not clear if it will be available for the MINIRIG 3 or if it will fix the connectivity issues

Does not work with MINIRIG 4

Disappointed that my new £150 speaker doesn’t work with this app. I only wanted to see the battery percentage of the speaker but it seems this is is not compatible with the new MINIRIG 4 (yet)

Brilliant speaker poor app

I love these speakers! Please, please sort out your software.

Terrible app

Just bought the minirig 4 and tried for hours to pair it with the app but finally given up.speaker sounds good but let down by terrible app!

Terrible app

Speakers sound great. However, this app is positively terrible, numerous connection issues and a non-user friendly interface. Love the speakers but simply cannot use them as I want or should be able to. I have seen similar comments dating back years so the app is clearly not being updated or invested in properly. I bought these purely because I loved my first one (before there was an app). I would not recommend you buy these. If I could have my time again I would go for the UE Boom.

Terrible app

Great speakers, let down by this noddy app. Trying to get two minirigs to connect to each other is like an endurance test. Not for the faint of heart.

Intermittent connection and pairing

I spend more time waiting, trying to troubleshoot to connect one or both minirig speakers to my iPhone. So, so, frustrating!

Fab speakers, appalling app

The speaker hardware is amazing, sound wise they blow the competition out of the water. The app is simply appalling.

Disappointing support of the app and the speakers

The speakers always lose their stereo pairing and have different levels. The app is of little help and also always loses its settings. I don’t know how many times I deleted all my bluetooth connections and reset the speakers.

Incredibly frustrating

I have to agree with previous comments about this app unfortunately. A product as good as the Minirig speaker deserves an app equally as good, otherwise the whole experience is a let down. I bought 2 speakers for stereo sound and the battle I have to go through to get them to both link to my phone is ridiculous! Sometimes it won’t work at all and will stubbornly just play through one, sometimes after minutes of constant trying it will link both and play great but then intermittently drop out of one speaker, and very occasionally it will play through both from switch on without any issues at all. There seems to be no other explanation for this other than a general disregard for users of the app - almost as if it’s just an afterthought! “We got your money and now you’re on your own” kind of thing. Such a shame because they are great speakers.

Fantastic Hardware, Poor Quality Software

As so many have already stated, MINIRIG are excellent portable Bluetooth speakers from a boutique company.

They have come up with a rather unique interface with respect to the audio jacks on the units and their function, but learning curve for effective usage is not terribly intimidating.

That said, using the speakers can quickly become far more frustrating than it should be when they don't work as expected, which happens often.

This experience is further exacerbated by the app, which is needed to view, update, and validate numerous important settings on the speakers, which is an absolute necessity given their hyper-minimal one-button design.

This design decision is fine; I like the idea on paper, but when 95% of the user interface of the product is in software, that software mist be reliable, and reliable it is not.

I could pardon the lack of UI polish and superfluous bloat (I have no idea who the target demographic is for the Mixtapes feature) if the features that were promised (by virtue of being in the app) actually worked, but many do not.

Connecting to a speaker can itself often require an inordinate amount of troubleshooting, including (but not limited to) performing a factory reset on the speaker. When one finally does succeed in getting the app to connect to a speaker, other issues quickly arise: settings aren't remembered after being changed and UI bugs prevent the user from changing certain settings with confidence.

All of this can conspire to create a scenario wherein during a "live" setting, you may spend upwards of 10 minutes troubleshooting connectivity issues and/or drop-outs even if only trying to use the speakers in wired mode – and especially if trying to use them in wireless mode.

I think MINIRIG have nailed the product vision and hardware design, but going forward they will need to invest considerable resources into their firmware and app to make the product one I could feel comfortable recommending to someone else.
