Rip off

MoviePass is simply not worth the headache or the expense. First, the economics don't add up: buying regular tickets directly from the cinema sometimes costs less out of pocket. Second, their pricing is deceptive. When checking out, the app tacked on a 7-credit surcharge, making the transaction far more expensive than advertised. Finally, when you decide to cancel, your unused credits are instantly forfeited rather than rolling over. So even though i have 33 credits, and the ticket cost 28, the extra 7 credits makes it impossible to buy, and you cant just pay the difference yourself unless you want to buy significantly more credits. Support was completely unhelpful when I reached out. Save your money and skip this scam.

When it works it’s great

When it works it’s great. But too often there is a technical problem and it declines, I end up having to buy the ticket with my normal credit card. Paying for a service that often doesn’t work.

Isn’t reliable

Maybe it will work maybe it won’t. I have 51 credits but app doesn’t work. I’ve uninstalled restarted phone reinstalled restarted phone and support is weak.

Horrendous

One of the worst apps ever. I’ve tried over a thousand times to use my movie credits for an any movie upgrade and it just constantly crashes. I try to use my movie credits for a different less know theatre and it constantly asks me if it’s okay to use 1 extra credit and it cancels my order/doesn’t complete the order every single time. I’ve just got ghost credits and meaningless purchase power at this point.

Frequent issues

If I have notifications, I click on the button to view them and there is no text or data.

When I am wanting to use more tickets than my reservation, my app does not prompt me to use more points. My friend does it and it allows more points to be used to buy when more points are required.

I Can’t Even Sign In

I signed up on a whim as I wanted to start up a hobby of going to theaters again, but the app crashes as soon as i open it at sign in. I’m worried about not being able to cancel the subscription or get a refund now.

Convenient at best.

When it works, it’s great! Sometimes it can be glitchy.

Total scam stay away

This app and membership is a total scam. They make the credits effectively impossible to use. They also expire periodically so you can’t accumulate enough to see the movies you want. All new releases are always more credits than the monthly allowance. I had the yearly subscription and they did not clarify they’d charge me for a 2nd year. When I tried to use the credits for a movie there was no way to actually buy the ticket with it. I ended up just paying for a ticket. Reached out to customer support who said I would need a physical membership card, which they eventually mailed to me. Overall they’ve charge me nearly $300 and I have seen ZERO movies. Total scam. Stay away. Don’t make my mistake.

Sorry to hear this was your experience. Credits can roll over up to your plan's maximum balance of two months' worth of credits, and renewal terms are shown when subscribing. If you still have concerns about your account or your physical card, please reach out via in-app chat or support@moviepass.com so we can take a closer look.

Credits will just disappear out of nowhere.

Do not download. Credits just disappear if you don’t use them!

Terrible app, predatory practices

I foolishly signed up during a discounted trial period. Towards the end I went to the app to cancel only to see no cancel button and a message saying my subscription is ending next month. Great! I thought, there’s nothing to be done. Then a few months later I notice they’ve still been charging me monthly. My fault for not checking my billing statements closely. I try to log back into my account to check my subscription but I can’t even do it because the app keeps crashing (already have the latest version). I ask for a refund, they say they only refund the most recent month but that I can escalate to the billing department. Or they can give me some credits. I ask them to escalate and they say they can only refund the recent month. I say then fine give me the credits. They say we already gave you that partial refund so credits aren’t an option anymore. Genuinely the most predatory company I’ve interacted with and that’s saying a lot.. would honestly rather pay triple for movie tickets for the rest of my life than interact with them again. Lesson learned to never sign up with my actual credit card!

Sorry to hear you've had such a frustrating experience. If you're having trouble accessing your account or have questions about your subscription, please reach out via in-app chat or support@moviepass.com so we can review your account and help.

Tried after it came back.

Had trouble first movie I wanted to see. Second movie worked fine. Log in. Or any promos through email have never worked. If everything is working smooth it offers value. Feels like it’s full of bugs everytime I try to sue this service. Maybe I’ll come back in a year and try again. This year didn’t work well. Promo could invalid from a promo email sent TODAY.

Waste of time!

This is a really bad design compared to what it used to be. The app has bugs and charges you twice for the same purchase, then the help desk informs you there’s nothing they can do about it! The monthly charges are up by $3 and the credits don’t even roll over if you have a new account. My friend has an old account and his monthly charge remains the old one and his credits roll over every month. Waste of time and money.

This app rocks and I used the original

Okay so the original app sad to say wasn’t financially viable. This one actually is. I love the credit system. I wish they’d give us the options for imax and Dolby or specialty theaters but that’s not a biggie. I will admit I have this and A list. I even have gone to 5 movies in one day using both. MoviePass is a great service especially for those that maybe only go to a few movies a week or a month. It’s better than any service the other chains offer like Cinemark or Regal. Their plans well Cinemark doesn’t have one and Regals plan you have to pay up charges if you want to watch on a bigger screen and to cancel you have to email someone and hope they cancel before they charge you. You also have to do 3 months period but everyone has switched to that I believe minus MoviePass.

So I don’t get all the bad ratings for this app. It’s almost as if they have never had a service like this and don’t get what it’s about. I used to use my MoviePass for my local theater then it shutdown but now a new one is open. Cinemark. It’s only 20 minutes from my home whereas AMC is an hour. So I look forward to using my MoviePass more often now.

Will say the 24 hour lock from when you purchase your last ticket kinda blows. So you have to time it right if you want to go watch another movie the next day because you can’t get a ticket till after 24 hours after you clicked on the last film. I get why but I wish they reset everyday giving you more flexibility but when you realize that feature you just work around it.

So for those angry at the app I’d love to know why you’re angry. Moviepass rocks and Stacey Spikes has brought back a great app that is highly competitive in the industry and better yet helps get movie lovers into movie theaters. That’s what movie theaters want. Anyway give Moviepass a try. If you aren’t sure go for the 1st or 2nd tier and see if you use up the credits you have for the month or save some. The saved credits do roll over to your max allotment. I myself am curious will I use up my credits now that a local theater is near my home.

Of course I still have AMC but I watch 3-4 movies in one day because driving an hour to an hour plus doesn’t make financial sense with gas so high. So THANK YOU STACEY for bringing back an awesome app.

Frustrated _customer

I tried to cancel my subscription but the help section says to go to account and click on subscription, only when I do that there is no subscription. The picture shows it under profile, but it is not there on the app. Customer service is extremely hard to find. I am super annoyed and frustrated. This app is not user-friendly in the least.

Scam

Not even close to what it used to be and super frustrating app. Doesn’t work half the time and I end up paying $156 per year to see one movie. A joke!

App is worst not able to view notifications

Notifications not visible in iOS when tried to pay it asks to load points but notifications not visible to click and proceed
Total waste of $25 subscription

Truly Useless Service + App

They have made this service so narrow and fine print-y that it’s borderline impossible to use unless you want to see movies last minute by yourself. You can’t get them more than a couple hours in advance so it’s impossible to plan. And if they don’t allow you to type in your stupid fake “card” number you legit can’t use it at all because they never send you a real card. I bought a year of service and I regret it every month when I can see like no movies and I end up buying tickets to go see shows with friends ANYWAY. Save your money!

Terrible App

My wife and I have been users in MoviePass for many years, and also the time we haven’t used this to its full extent, probably probably costing us more money than we would’ve paid if we just paid for the movies. However, this latest update to the app, which we just gone to after a hiatus of going to the movies at all, at proven be incredibly frustrating. And seemingly designed to frustrate. Specifically, my wife was. Unable to sign in, and the only way to get help is to sign into the app. I was able to reach them on my app on my phone, but then getting her signed in was quite difficult. Nathan, the agent who I got to, was quite helpful. But the design of the app is nonsensical. Doesn’t support automatic input by password apps. This makes it less secure than putting in a complicated password, which is almost impossible to keep track of remember. Very discipline.
