Easy to use

Practical, easy to carry with me out in the woods

More than what I expected but...

First off I wanted to like the app and it does indeed have great pictures. I do feel that the descriptions are lacking. I have also not had any luck using the scientific name in the search function which is kind of a bummer. Thirdly, it lists psilocybes as poisonous which is a little dishonest I think. All in all I feel like I wasted $5, had to give it 3 stars because it still has some good features and a decent library it still needs work to be a 5star app

Great field guide

But they wonโ€™t commit on as to wether or not you can eat them. They do tell you which ones you CANโ€™T eat, so thatโ€™s a plus.

Lots of help

This app helped me identify and get rid of toxic fungi growing near my tomatoes. Useful for sating curiosity and developing some amateur ID skills. Would recommend.

Good app

Itโ€™s quite useful while out walking around, but I find several types arenโ€™t in the database. Iโ€™m sure it will continue to improve over time. I use it all the time!

FAQ

What does the Mushroom Id North America app do?

This app serves as a comprehensive guide to identifying fungi species found in North America, specifically the USA and Canada. It utilizes high-quality images and detailed ecological, anatomical, and taxonomic information to assist users in identifying different mushroom species. It also allows users to log their fungi sightings.

How does the identification process work?

The app employs the KUSAM species identification methodology, a modern taxonomic keying system designed for mobile devices. This system, combined with carefully selected images and detailed information, aids in the accurate identification of fungi species. It is developed by professional ecologists.

Is this app free to use?

Based on the provided information, this application is a paid product. All content, including the species data and identification tools, is downloaded when the app is purchased, and it does not require an internet connection for use after the initial download.

Can I use this app to identify wild mushrooms for eating?

No, this app is strictly for general interest and identification purposes and is not intended for foraging wild foods. The description strongly advises against handling or eating wild mushrooms due to the risk of poisoning and misidentification.

What regions does the app cover and how many species are included?

The app covers fungi species found in the USA and Canada. It currently includes information on 164 species. The developers plan to add new species regularly, so keeping the app updated is recommended.
