No da alertas

Works too well

Too many false positives. Alerts over magnitude 5.5 quakes 100 miles away that I don’t even feel. Practically gives me a heart attack several times a year over moderate quakes so far away I can’t feel them. I guess false positives are better than real dangerous quakes that are missed. That said, I wish they could perfect the model so it only alerts if a quake is actually dangerous in the area my device is at. I do not need warnings for moderate sized quakes so far away that they are not felt here.

Spot On

I just exp the 2nd time this app notified me about an earthquake. Last time I got a Notification just seconds before the earthquake! This time, I received one about a minute after. I have both MyShake and QuakeFeed. MyShake is dependable, and QuakeFeed is for information. I’m very satisfied with MyShake app!

Buggy & untrustworthy

App frequently crashes at startup. Also disturbingly sends urgent “drop & cover” alerts for events far away, like M6 Mendocino temblor to Santa Clara County residents. Untrustworthy

DO NOT DOWNLOAD

I made the mistake of downloading this app & it got stuck open on my Home Screen forcing me to do a hard shutdown of my phone just so I could delete it. I am now concerned that it will still be active in the background after reading the horror stories in other reviews.

FAQ

What does the MyShake app do?

MyShake provides earthquake early warnings for California, Oregon, and Washington using the USGS ShakeAlert system. It also offers earthquake safety tips, a global earthquake map with detailed information, and notifications for earthquakes based on your selected regions and magnitude.

How does the early warning system work?

The app utilizes the USGS ShakeAlert system to deliver alerts for earthquakes of magnitude 4.5 or greater. These alerts are received several seconds before shaking arrives, giving users time to take protective actions.

Is MyShake free to use?

Yes, MyShake is completely free to use with no ads or subscription fees. It is developed by the University of California, Berkeley, Seismology Lab and funded by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

What kind of information can I find on the earthquake map?

The earthquake map allows you to view and explore earthquakes around the world. You can get detailed information such as the earthquake's magnitude, location, and depth. You can also share your own earthquake experiences and see community reports of shaking and damage.

Can my phone contribute to earthquake detection?

Yes, by participating in the smartphone-based global seismic network, your phone acts as a mini-seismometer. This citizen-science initiative contributes to the detection of earthquakes globally and has the potential to provide early warning alerts even in regions without traditional seismic networks.
