Progress Will Disappeared
Edit: I’ve now lost map data on two additional walks I did after my original review last week. I submitted a note to the developers after posting my review avd have not heard back yet. Seems like this app still needs work to be usable. I would not pay for this.
Original review: I thought this app was amazing and was going to subscribe. Then I woke up this morning and half the map I’d uncovered was gone. It still recognizes my discovered points of interest, but the fog is back and now I can’t see where I’ve been and where I still need to go, which is a complete waste. Heartbreaking. :(

So fun!
I haven’t had any of the problems that others describe, so presumably those things have been fixed? My only feature request would be that one could change the density of the fog in the settings so that the unexplored map could be hidden entirely. Also, some of the city boundaries are really weird, but I’m sure there isn’t a human drawing them, they’re being pulled from somewhere or other.

I really like this app and I want it to be better
I’ve been using MysteryHike for the last few months, and overall, I really love the concept. It genuinely encourages me to get out and discover places I haven’t been before instead of repeatedly visiting the same few places. However, there are several issues that have made the experience frustrating.
The biggest problem is that some of my discovery progress seems to disappear. Areas I previously walked through and had highlighted on the map will sometimes no longer be highlighted the next time I open the app. It’s usually not a huge amount of progress, but it’s enough to notice—and some of these are places that would be difficult or inconvenient for me to revisit.
I’ve also had issues with the auto-tracking feature. I’ve walked through entire parks only to have portions of the area remain undiscovered afterward. Since I’m obviously not walking faster than the 20 km/h tracking limit, I’m not sure why parts of those walks aren’t being recorded.
Some of the app’s other features could also use better explanations. I still don’t really understand the purpose of Discovery Points or what they actually do. The badge system is similarly confusing. I can see progress toward badges, but it isn’t clear what exactly the progress indicator is measuring, and there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to view previously earned badges.
I’d also really like a better way to view my overall exploration progress. Currently, I can only see three different progress areas within my city, even though I know I’ve explored more areas than that. It would be great to have a list of every area where I’ve made at least some discovery progress, along with the completion percentage for each one.
I’m also hesitant to try Premium because it isn’t very clear what I would actually be paying for. The main Premium feature I can identify is the ability to track travel regardless of speed, which I would absolutely use. But is that the only additional feature? I’d like to be able to see a clear list comparing everything included with Premium versus the free version before committing to a purchase. I completely understand that the app needs revenue to continue operating, and I’m willing to pay for an app I enjoy, but I need to know what I’m getting for that money—especially when some of the free app’s core tracking features are already unreliable.
One feature I would LOVE to see added is a way to document places you visited before downloading the app. I’ve traveled to multiple countries and across the U.S. several times, but none of that history can be represented on my map. Some of those places may be difficult or extremely expensive for me to ever visit again.
It would be amazing if there were a way to verify previous travel using geotagged photos, location metadata, or another verification system and add those locations to your discovery history. It wouldn’t necessarily need to count exactly the same as areas explored while actively using the app, but having some way to represent previous travel would make the app feel much more complete.
I genuinely enjoy MysteryHike and think it has a ton of potential. The concept has already changed the way I think about going for walks and exploring new places. I just wish the tracking were more reliable, the existing features were explained more clearly, and the benefits of Premium were easier to understand. With those improvements, this could easily become a 5-star app for me.

I love it, motivates me to walk
Its an amazing idea, it helps me to stay moving and visiting new places, I love to see the map with area to be visited so Is easier to keep track of places I still didnt go
