Too much paywalled articles
I’m not going to subscribe to be able to read paywalled articles and I just deleted your app for good.
But why
Nope. I won’t be paying for what was free. Most articles are locked behind paywall now.

If the idea is to have everyone get a subscription now, that should be a separate app. I don’t want to open the NBC News app I have used for years to now have to scroll past 8 articles that I can’t read before I get to one I can read. After having this app for years I’m ready to move elsewhere for news. Please work on the platform or I will be deleting it.

Paywalls
For the past 10+ years, this has been my go-to app for national news. With 75% of articles now blocked by pay walls, an entire section of “editorial” product reviews linking exclusively to Amazon, and nearly 10% click bait ads poorly disguised as “articles”, I’m officially done. Capitalism is killing journalism.

Never updates
It requires subscriptions and it never updates the news
Once was a good app
NBC News app used to be informative. Now you must be a Subscriber to read most content, sending me elsewhere to read the news
Most content is now only for paid subscribers
Had this app for years. I noticed a few months ago more stories had a subscriber only tag. Ok, no big deal, most stories were still free. Now the app is easily 85% subscriber only, with just a few free stories sprinkled in. I’m not paying to read content I can view on my TV. Epic fail NBC. Time for a new news app.

No point in Australia
Now that they changed the news to only see most of it if you subscribe, there’s no point in it for Australia any more, not going to subscribe when I can get it free Elsewhere

Used to like this, but now almost every article can only be read if you have a subscription. I’m not buying another subscription.
Cannot Subscribe
I am in no position to subscribe to NBC News and they have subscription only on on soooo many news stories that I can no longer have this app up.
Not what it used to be
I have been using this app for years and used to love it. Now my feed is 90% articles that I cannot read because they’re “for subscribers only”. Really bummed that I need to find a new news app.
Unusable
Probably 2/3 of articles are “for subscribers,” so unless you pay for their subscription, this app is useless.
It’s gone downhill
This used to be a fairly reliable news source. But now 90% of the stories are only available if you subscribe. I’ll stick to getting news from other free news sources.
80% of articles require subscription
I’ve used this app a long time and relied on it to keep me up to date on news. I understand the need to find journalism, but the heavy handed shift to a subscriber model, and how quickly they did it, is frustrating. I’ve uninstalled this app and switched to AP News.
Didn’t know I would end paying for basic news
Almost every article is a “Subscriber” article. It doesn’t entice me to sign up. It entices me to delete the app altogether & start looking somewhere else for basic news.

Cash grab just like CNN. Guess I’ll have to get my news from ABC.
Still buggy AND I’m not paying for news!!!
I’ve used this app for years. It’s always been a little buggy, but manageable and I liked easy access to nightly and breaking news. Recently, it started randomly prompting me for a passcode for parental controls and sometimes I can’t get past it to watch or read anything. As far as articles, most are now subscriber-only. Sorry; I’m not paying for my news. Why so greedy, NBC?! I hope that change bites NBC in the butt; they deserve it.

Nearly Everything Is Locked
I’ve never felt compelled to leave an app review before, but this change deserves one.
I’ve been an NBC News viewer for over 20 years, and I’ve relied on this app to stay informed. Unfortunately, over the past six months, the app has shifted so heavily toward a subscription model that it feels like more than 95% of the stories on the home page are now locked behind a paywall.
I understand that news organizations need to generate revenue, but when almost everything on the front page requires a subscription, the app no longer provides much value to longtime users. Instead of encouraging me to subscribe, it’s encouraged me to look elsewhere for my news.
After more than two decades with NBC News, you’ve completely lost me. I can’t recommend this app to others when there are plenty of news sources that still provide meaningful access without putting nearly every headline behind a paywall.
