Needs Refinement

About half the trips I make this thing says I’m doing severe braking. I’m not at all doing severe braking. I haven’t even had to do a panic stop since I started using it because someone pulled out in front of me. Nothing. And it’s not just a matter of opinion thing - this app is way off.

Confused

It’s a great app but it doesn’t know whether you are the driver or a passenger.

My car doesn’t have a gauge to tell my acceleration! Why does the App judge that?

The App has good intention to monitor speed, acceleration, braking and attention to driving. But my car doesn’t have a gauge to tell my acceleration. Only speed. If you tell me to use iPhone to monitor acceleration, how do I know my driving without using my phone during driving?

Intrusive

App insists on always tracking your precise location even when you aren’t in a car. No way. None of their business.

Good initiative, needs refinement

This is an excellent app. My family has a healthy competition of who is the best driver and what our ranking is. I love that it shows you why it scored a drive low etc and helps further improve. Some areas where there is a sharp angular exit out of a gas station or a turn there is no way to have soft cornering. Also when you are in high traffic area you have to stay with the flow to be safe and accelerate fast to merge to a highway etc and these are scored low. So these are areas that j am sure will be refined as more people use it. Overall, it’s very good.

Helpful app

This is a well designed app. It seems to track any movement that is faster than walking. It is fairly accurate with my main vehicle. The only downside is the tracking of speed limits in a school zone outside of school hours. Not sure what the benefit is for lowering my car insurance premiums, yet.

Obnoxious required app

Would not install except insurance seems to require it. Accuracy is poor. Curious when they will start to penalize me for a poorly executed app. Accuracy is low. Passenger status expects me to go be a slave to the app, which is never going to happen. I’m trying to live my life and I already hate everything social app related. I don’t do Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter, why would I be expected to be a slave to this app. Really not happy.

Want to use it

It drains the battery as it requires to be always using location. Can’t use it that way

Problems

I am a 53 year old driver with two tickets in my entire life and ZERO accidents. One when I was a kid and one red light cam violation by a fraction of a second.

If you drive in NJ you know that the Parkway speed limit is 55 in many places. But if you are going that speed (or even 62 ish), you are likely to get rear ended. I always keep it 70 or less, but the app doesn’t like that and will tell you you are speeding. Additionally it does not properly reflect many local speed limits. I have seen clearly marked 35 MPH zones reflect as 25 in the app where again you will get flagged.

This app really needs work and a re think about what safe driving is.

Better than the old one

As others have mentioned, it would be helpful to know what the criteria & guidelines are for each category in the ratings and what is needed for the discount on your policy. This app is a big improvement over their previous app. Distinguishing between drivers should be improved.

Needs some adjusting

I like the app, but there are a few things that could use some adjusting. I don’t typically use my phone when I’m driving, however if I’m doing gig work that could require me “using” the phone to accept work. Potholes and construction will cause you to move suddenly that you may or may not see until a split second to avoid damage to your car. Speed “limit”…ummm…I’m not sure how I feel about this one as I can respect the speed limit, especially in school zones, neighborhoods, and parking lots. However, I would think that well over 90% of people go even slightly above the EXACT speed limit. If the speed limit is 50 is there no grace for at least a 5 mph range? I understand it’s not called a speed range, but drivers around you get pretty t’d when you’re crawling trying not to go over the limit. Unless I’m going well over the speed limit can you dial down the sensitivity on some of these things you’re trying to monitor, please? I don’t get tickets nor have I had any accidents, thank GOD, but this app is a little nerve wracking.

NOT WORTH IT!!!!

I highly suggest that you carefully reconsider before you agree to use this app. In my experience over the past year, the app is highly flawed. It is a huge headache to have to go in each time you are a passenger in a vehicle and make adjustments so that you do not receive scores based on being a passenger. Additionally, your premium is adjusted each year based on your scores. NJM frames it as “losing the discount” if your scores fall below a certain number, but provides no guidelines or information about what numbers are required to receive the discount. My son, who is a brand new driver, apparently did not achieve the required scores for the discount so my premium increased by 7%. The app has way too many flaws to have that significant of an impact on my payment. The numerous flaws, the lack of transparency on the part of NJM, and the draining on your phone battery are absolutely not worth it.
