Does the job very well
If you need to monitor NMEA messages, this is the app you need. It works perfectly well, and furthermore, the developer has been very helpful solving issues with incorrect NMEA messages that other similar apps treated as valid. Basic use is to check whether your device receives the NMEA sentences, and log them to a file for further examination. This allowed me to solve problems with navigation applications when their developers couldn’t figure the problem. Definitely worth the price!
Be aware that there are other similar applications, but some will accept invalid messages, others will allow only TCP connection (mostly useless in most cases). Also be aware that only one application can receive broadcasted messages on a given port at a given time. If the app doesn’t work, check that another app isn’t using the chosen port. Typically, you can’t log the messages received by a navigation app running at the same time on the same device. If you need to do that, you’ll have to run the two apps on two different iPhones or iPads. I use the navigation app on my iPad and NMEA connect on my iPhone. That works perfectly.

Gutes Backup für Bord-GPS
Sehr umfangreiches NMEA-Tool. Ich benutze es an Bord via Wifi mit einem NMEA-Multiplexer, u.a. zu Diagnosezwecken. Darüber hinaus ist es ein super Feature, die Positionsdaten des iPhone-GPS als NMEA via UDP zu senden (als Backupsystem für das Bord-GPS). Im Gegensatz zu einigen anderen Apps, die GPS-Daten über NMEA senden, kann man hier die Daten auch wirklich als korrekte UDP-Broadcasts senden.

Great for diagnosing NMEA networks
I paired this with a Yacht Devices NMEA 2000 WiFi gateway (YDWG-02) and can now see all the traffic on the NMEA 2000 (or SeaTalk NG) network. Either a dump of all the traffic or seeing the data organized by source and signal. For example, I can see that my chart plotter is not talking on the network (problem with chart plotter) and that my wind direction and wind speed are reasonable even though the wind display is out to lunch (need to fix the display, not the sensor). I can even record the data in the raw format and email it to myself for analysis later on.

Internal gps lacks accuracy
This is a great app, very configurable. However, when using the internal gps on iPhone, it only produces two nmea message types, and never gets beyond 2d fixes, which some applications need to work well. While it does stay running in the background, it appears to stall and give inconsistent readings at times.

Sehr nützliches Tool
Ich bin selbst iOS-Entwickler und verwende die App um NMEA-Quellen in mySeaMap einzubauen. Durch die Verwendung des internen GPS und der Simulation ist das ganz einfach, auch wenn man keine echte NMEA-Hardware hat. Wünschenswert wäre noch, dass die App auch im Hintergrund weiterläuft, nicht nur für 3 Minuten. Unter iOS7 sollte das möglich sein.
