About

Northern Lights Forecast 4K puts real-time aurora data right on your Apple TV. Built from the ground up for tvOS, this app gives you everything you need to track, predict, and photograph the aurora borealis - all on your big screen. REAL-TIME SPACE WEATHER DATA The app pulls live Kp index readings (0-9 scale) straight from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. You get solar wind speed, density, and temperature alongside the Bz magnetic field component - the single most important factor in predicting whether aurora will show up tonight. Here's what's included: • Live Kp index with automatic updates • 3-day aurora forecast with expected peaks • Hourly timeline for tonight's viewing window • Smart notifications when activity spikes Automatic location and timezone detection INTERACTIVE AURORA MAP A full MapKit-powered world map shows exactly where aurora is visible right now. Viewing zones shift dynamically based on current geomagnetic conditions - Kp 2+ for the primary oval, Kp 4+ for extended regions, and Kp 6+ during major geomagnetic storms. Sixteen real-world locations are pinned with color-coded markers and atmospheric glow effects, so you can spot your nearest opportunity at a glance. AURORA SCHOOL Eight in-depth topics cover everything from basic Kp index interpretation to the physics of magnetic reconnection. You'll learn why aurora glows green (oxygen), pink (nitrogen), or occasionally deep red. There's a dedicated section on the 1859 Carrington Event, a breakdown of how moon phases affect visibility, and over 40 "Did You Know?" facts scattered throughout. Topics covered: Kp scale explained, solar wind mechanics, Bz component, aurora colors, viewing strategies, geomagnetic storms, latitude zones, and moon phase impact on photography. PRO PHOTO GALLERY Eight handpicked aurora photographs displayed in native 4K resolution. Every image comes with the real shooting location, capture date, Kp conditions at the time, and complete camera settings - ISO, aperture, shutter speed. Tap any photo to toggle a glassmorphic info overlay with the scientific story behind the shot. Featured locations: Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Alaska, Canada, and Svalbard. PHOTOGRAPHY CALCULATOR Heading out with your camera? The built-in photography mode recommends ISO, aperture, and shutter speed based on the current Kp level. It also shows compass direction for your hemisphere, live cloud cover, current moon phase, and six field-tested shooting tips. Cross-reference your settings against gallery images for a quick sanity check before you step outside. DESIGNED FOR APPLE TV This is not a phone app stretched to fit a bigger display. Every element was made for tvOS: • Glassmorphism UI optimized for 4K screens • Focus-based navigation tuned for Apple TV Remote • Spring animations and real-time condition badges • Pulsing visual alerts during high aurora activity WHO THIS IS FOR Aurora chasers planning a trip up north. Photographers who want exposure settings dialed in before they leave the house. Travelers heading to Scandinavia, Iceland, or Alaska. Teachers putting together a space weather lesson. Or honestly anyone who finds the night sky hard to look away from. What's New in Northern Lights Forecast 4K

3.1

May 5, 2026

This update makes Aurora Forecast more reliable and more useful when planning your night. • Real-time forecast improvements: Aurora Now now uses live NOAA OVATION probability data for your location. • Better reliability: The app now handles temporary space weather source outages more gracefully and still shows available live conditions. • Improved data handling: Better parsing and resilience for NOAA feeds to reduce failed loads and improve overall app stability. • Refined fallback experience: When some space weather inputs are temporarily unavailable, Aurora Forecast continues to provide meaningful weather and viewing guidance instead of blank states. Thank you for using Aurora Forecast.
