What happened to the app
This used to be my favorite product and app (and the reporting is still great!). Every change to the app in the last month has been absolutely insane. The fonts changing randomly, the layout changing randomly, buffering taking forever, godawful Liquid glass default navigation, literally hiding the audio button on an article unless you scroll down and then scroll up and then catch it before it disappears??!?!?! Insane. There cannot be any A/B test saying these are good choices. What is going on

Podcasting functionality is BAD
It’s hard to find the podcast that I want to listen to. They only make it easy to listen to their top pods and it’s difficult to search for other podcasts. It’s not an intuitive interface. I find myself listening to these podcasts less because of this.

Blurry UI now at top?
The app itself is not too bad, but a recent UI change has made the top 1/3 of the news articles blurry into some kind of “stylistic“ fade. You are wasting almost the third of the available screen real estate on faded words. At first, I thought there was something wrong with my phone, then I realized this was some silly design idea. Please allow at least the option to make all of the text on the screen readable for those of us with mobile phones.

Slow performance, runaway CPU usage
This app has problems on iOS 26. Very slow performance, and sometimes runaway CPU usage (the back of the iPad gets HOT when running NYTimes). Frequent page reloads with a message from the app “Something went wrong, try this page again later”.
All this app needs to do is show articles. CPU and storage use should be very low.

Well, written articles, but a lot of liberal bias
I am very surprised often to find no coverage of issues that are not the liberal talking points For example, today there is so much going on with the JK Rowling and amnesty International. I would love to get a subscription to the games, but I cannot bear to spend more money on. A newspaper that is pushing an agenda, I would really love if they would cover both sides of things.

Please fix scrolling
One of the latest updates seriously broke scrolling on the home screen. Hiding/showing the logo at the top is very sensitive and animates with a fixed duration instead of being interactive and driven by scrolling rate. This results in uncontrollable content repositioning when scrolling slowly or pausing a scroll gesture to read a headline.

Latest version is buggy
The layout of the front page keeps jumping and and photos don’t load. Fonts keep changing sizes.

I have been a reader for 60 years now. In high school I studied the Times in my journalism class. I will be renewing my subscription in September.
