New version is a downgrade.

What happened to the timer the app used to show ?

Amazing tool, a few feature requests

First, I love the OVR Velocity device. As a moron that is terrible at estimating my RPE it’s made a massive difference I how I regulate my workouts. I’d highly recommend it to someone that wants to experiment with VBT. That’s said, I do have a few feature requests.

1. Let me edit the weight of a set after the fact. Sometimes I put in the wrong load and don’t realize until after the lift. Unfortunately there is no way to change that in the app, so to keep the data clean there is no option but to delete the entire set.

2. Add RPE tracking so I can have a custom curve in the app. I’ve managed to build out my own curve with the data, but it’d be awesome if I could have that in the app itself.

Those would be my two major QoL improvements if they are possible. Thanks!

No Multiple Athletic Profile Capabilities

If you coach, like I do, you want to be able to capture an athlete’s data over time, analyze it, adjust, train and reassess. From what I can tell only one profile can be inputted in the app. That is not optimal. I have not used the system yet but that is a major drawback as far as Im concerned. I see quite a few reviews on performance tracking issues but I have not gotten that far yet. I would change my review if this was corrected in the app but for now that’s my view. If it is difficult to setup or use the rating could go down as well.

Almost there

The app is OK. Needs a few tweaks.

1. Needs to be able to zoom out with the camera function.

2. Needs to not stop the phone’s music over bluetooth when camera is recording.

3. Needs an “average over all sets” when reviewing a workout.

Horrible app

So many issues and glitches. Doesn’t record all reps. Camera function crashes and gets stuck. Doesn’t allow for decimals on weights (ie 137.5 kg). I can go on. I feel like I wasted money on this unit since the app is so bad.

Bugs and Crashes constantly

When a set finishes, it should automatically log that set and then start fresh at a new set. You can tell a set is finished if there is no activity for a set amount of time , let’s say 15 seconds. It’s not hard to program, Vitruve’s old app does it perfectly.

If you do not start a new set, the app will crash if you click the record button, which then also deletes any data that was in the session. Absolute trash.

Will not connect to device

This device will not connect to my new iPhone

iPad

Can’t use on iPad. Doesn’t save reps. Also not being able to use camera app is frustrating.

OVR Jump doesn’t connect to App!

I have an OVR Jump. It works like a charm. The app is a different story. It doesn’t connect to my iPhone so I can’t record the data in my app or film concurrently which is what I was looking forward to being able to do

Solid App, Please Add Notes

Hey I have nothing really to complain about. I like the app and think it’s fairly functional. Would be great to add a feature that I could add notes to sets or days!

High Potential, Meh Execution

Measurements are accurate and the app interface is very simple and intuitive. Overall, it works and gets the job done.

Despite that, there are some major drawbacks with the app as well as the companies stance on aspects of VBT, which could very easily be fixed.

Deleting reps during a set only works half the time and is very hit or miss.

Theres no way to set a ‘minimum record distance’ so when performing Olympic lifts, it’s going to count a rep every time you catch the bar, squat up from a clean, bounce the bar a little going from squat to front rack for a jerk, bounce the bar on the ground, etc. which is pretty frustrating when you need clean numbers and can’t easily delete reps during a set.

It’s even counted reps just from dropping a deadlift, which didn’t bounce very far at all. Again - even more annoying when deleting reps in a set with the “hold down” feature only works half the time.

Additionally, OVR limits you pretty significantly on how broadly you can apply VBT.

An example is that there’s no daily 1RM estimate. Which is a large reason why people use VBT - to auto regulate their lifts.

No daily 1RM estimate (which would be a VERY easy number to add on the interface) means you can not auto regulate your lifts to a prescribed 1RM % for that day. Leaving the only way to auto regulate using the device is to program based off velocity thresholds, which can be substantially more difficult or not available for most people just running a lifting program using % 1RM.

When asked if this would ever be a feature, the team replied that those metrics aren’t something that they value and they would rather only display long term data.

Having an opinion that long term data may be more beneficial is fine, but it shouldn’t be forced upon the consumer.
At the end of the day, providing your clients with more data, or data options, is going to increase sales and retention, even if it doesn’t align with personal/company dogma.
These biases shouldn’t be a cause for limiting the broader application of your products, especially when there are very easy, simple fixes that can be implemented to solve these issues.

These reviews are nuts

I’ve been using all the OVR products since December when the system came out. Maybe that’s not when it came out but that’s why I bought it. It did not take me long before I bought the velocity machine. I bought another jump machine. Then the sprint machine. I also work with high school athletes. The OVR products and their app has honestly been the best thing that I have introduced to my own training in a little less than 20 years. There is no more theories or guessing. The speed measurements are very accurate. The data it pushes back for you…Is actually useful. It also helps that it forms all the data itself therefore, I’m not spending a lot of time trying to figure numbers. Sometimes you buy into these things and you spend more time trying to figure it out as opposed to actually training or working out. The knowledge it has given me just by using it casually in my own workouts has surpassed all my training certifications. The only problems I have had with the app was a region issue back in June with an athlete and that was resolved within a few days. It was a weird rare case as well, considering I have dozens of athletes with accounts. Could there be more things? I guess but I don’t find it necessary if you consider the price of these products. The ease of how they are used and compared to other similar products such as the velocity machine. And nowhere where you find a velocity machine and a jump mat. That puts out the kind of data with the ease that the OVR does with their price tag.
If all my OVR stuff was stolen tomorrow. I would place an order already the next day. The app works just fine. In June, they added the sprint system, which may have thrown a couple things off. It could not have been more than a day or two before it was being fixed.

I’m actually in the gym right now using the OVR app and my data is showing me signs of fatigue due to measurements in bar speed from previous data. This tracks because I did not sleep last night. It’s hot here. Haha I also just don’t feel like working out at the moment.., all in all… from what I have read of the other reviews they are from people who have barely touched into OVR. The products the system and the app are fantastic

Can’t make an account

I can’t even make an account because I can’t select a region, the whole app freezes

Freezes on region screen

Great hardware, I can’t really say how good the app is because I can’t get past the registration page. It requires you to enter a region, but when you try to enter one the app freezes on a gray screen

Useless due to bugs

OVR needs to fix the app, bugs stop you from creating an account and it won’t let you proceed without inputting all the information. Tried on multiple phones and still nothing. Tried everything I could think of to get it to work and still nothing. Entire OVR device is pretty much useless without the app unless you like having 1/10th of the functionality.

Could use some work

Deleting reps is finicky. I'm unable to default the main UI measurement to peak velocity so for every new set I have to switch it back to peak velocity. It also doesn't switch the graph to display peak velocity to match the current metric and only graphs the average velocity. When the bar bounces or on a catch, it will often record two or three extra reps.

Measurements are very accurate from what I can tell! UI is great and gives me a ton of information such as rest time, velocity loss, and more!
