About

Pantry Snap is a local-first pantry, fridge, and freezer tracker for iPhone and iPad. Add an item in seconds, and never let groceries expire forgotten. Three fast ways to add an item: - Scan a barcode (on-device, no internet) to fill in the name and category. - Pick from the bundled USDA FoodKeeper storage guide to estimate a quality window for the selected location. - Snap or choose a photo and let on-device OCR suggest the name, date, and printed label type. Photos are optional — you can log an item and its package date in seconds. What you can do with Pantry Snap: - Scan barcodes to add common groceries quickly, fully offline. - Look up how long 400+ foods last in the pantry, fridge, and freezer (USDA FoodKeeper data). - Distinguish quality dates from safety guidance. Most package dates are not safety deadlines; infant formula receives special FDA Use By handling. - Add the package-opened date and get location-aware opened-package guidance when FoodKeeper provides it. - See actionable storage and spoilage warnings without declaring food unsafe from a generic date alone. - Detect likely duplicate active items before saving. - Fall back from live scanning to photo recognition, manual barcode entry, manual dates, or a FoodKeeper estimate. - Organize by food category and your own custom storage locations. - Filter by all, use-soon, or expired; clean up expired items in one tap. - Build a shopping list that suggests low and expiring items, and send it to Reminders or Notes. - See waste-and-savings insights: items used vs tossed and the money you kept out of the trash. - Category waste leaderboard: see which food categories drive your waste, with a per-category toss rate, dollar totals, and a visual bar. - Location-grouped inventory: switch the pantry list to "By Location" to view items grouped under Fridge, Pantry, Freezer, or custom locations. - Batch adding: tap "Add Another" to stay in the add flow and log a full grocery haul without reopening the sheet. - Add "Expiring Soon" widgets to your Home Screen and Lock Screen. - Use Siri Shortcuts: "Add a pantry item" and "What expires this week?" - Create and atomically restore a validated full backup, including photos, shopping items, and settings; CSV remains available for spreadsheets. - Get reconciled local reminders before tracked package or FoodKeeper dates. Private by design: no account, no analytics, no ads, no in-app purchases, and no network needed for everyday use. Barcode scanning and OCR run entirely on your device, and your inventory never leaves it. Storage data is from the USDA FSIS FoodKeeper dataset (public-domain U.S. federal data). Storage times are quality estimates, not safety guarantees. Pantry Snap does not replace package directions or professional food-safety advice.

What's New in Pantry Snapper

3.0

July 12, 2026

```text Pantry Snap 3.0 makes food-date tracking more accurate, useful, and trustworthy. Quality dates vs. safety: Best By, Sell By, Use By, and similar package dates are clearly explained as quality guidance for most foods, not automatic safety deadlines. Infant formula receives the FDA-specific warning not to use it after its Use By date. Opened-package guidance: record when a package was opened and Pantry Snap uses the bundled USDA FoodKeeper data for the selected pantry, refrigerator, or freezer location, including opened refrigerated timelines when available. Better decisions: every item can show practical storage and spoilage warnings. A past generic date no longer automatically labels food unsafe or offers one-tap disposal. More resilient capture: recognize barcodes and date labels from the camera or a saved photo, type barcode digits manually, set dates yourself, or use a FoodKeeper estimate. Likely duplicates are flagged before saving. Safer local backups: create a complete on-device backup with photos, shopping items, and settings. Restores are validated before an atomic replacement, and reminders are reconciled afterward. Larger text, VoiceOver descriptions, widgets, Siri wording, and reminder messages have also been refined. Everything remains private and on device: no account, analytics, ads, or pantry-data uploads. ```
