Not well keyed to textbooks

The premise of this app is that it’s supposed to be keyed to the textbook you’re using. When I selected my textbook and asked it to include the first nine chapters, I’m finding that the app doesn’t present the vocabulary and grammar matching my textbook. So for instance, words come up that are not included in the vocab lists for the chapters that I’ve selected. Also, for the parsing aspect, the app will present forms that have not yet been covered in the textbook in the chapters that I have selected. Like the aorist subjunctive was presented to me, but that is not yet covered in the first nine chapters, which was the range I selected. So the app isn’t delivering what it promised. It’s not automating the creation of flash cards for me. It’s presenting me with material I’m not yet ready for. So it’s not particularly useful.

Hello. Before giving a one star rating, reaching out to support might be better to see if you are “missing something.” :-) I’m pretty sure that you are choosing chapter vocabulary, but not chapter grammar (same screen, second tab). So, for example, if I were studying with Mounce’s grammar and chose vocabulary from chs. 4-9, this would include every form of all of that vocabulary, a total of 637 forms. But once I go to the grammar tab and also choose the same chapters, the amount of forms in the quiz will reduce, because only certain grammatical concepts have been introduced. If this doesn’t make sense, please email me and I’m glad to help. And if this doesn’t work, then please also contact me with further description so I can figure out the problem. Lastly, after everything is worked through, please consider updating your rating and review.

Needs to save progress!

This is an excellent app overall, and works with many different grammar books. However, it doesn’t save your progress when going through lists, which is extremely frustrating! Hopefully the developer will address this.

***

The developer let me know that you can use the filter to exclude certain words after getting them correct a user-defined number of times. In this way you can keep from having to do the same words over again if you can’t finish your current session. This works I suppose!

Thanks for your rating and review! If you can clarify (perhaps via email) what exactly you mean, that would be super helpful for future development. I do want to point out that the app does save a correct/incorrect count and can be accessed as a filter in the more options final menu. So, for instance, you can ask the app to not include words that you have answered correctly more than 5 times. If this last option is not something you knew about, then perhaps you’d consider modifying your rating. Thanks again for the feedback!

Good but…

On the famine nouns, ς is a possible ending for genitive singular and accusative plural, but there isn’t an option to mark it as either or. And it will mark the answer wrong even if you are technically correct. Their should be an either or answer like there is on master Greek.

helpful study tool!

I used this app to help me memorize and identify Greek forms, and still use it to stay fresh

ParseGreek & FlashGreek

I have been using both these apps for about 9mos. I have found them a great help and a must for learning Greek Grammar. Buy the bundle so you get the biggest bang for the buck. These apps work with all the major grammars or as a stand alone app. Danny is always helpful if you have any questions.

Good app

Helpful for staying fresh in Koine morphology.

User error or bug? When I click the ? (redirects to morphology charts), I can’t go back. Need to exit app and restart.

Fantastic app

Working great has been an immense help to me.
But I’m using SM Baugh and chapter 5 grammar is missing the deponent verbs

Very buggy - not worth $13 CAD

I downloaded this app on the recommendation of my Greek professor with the hopes that it would help my studies. However, there are a number of bugs that make studying with it quite frustrating.

For one, the recent section now contains 4 copies of the one textbook I’ve been using… it seems to add another copy each time I use the app.

Secondly, the grammar and vocabulary pick lists seem to have an unpredictable affect on the cards that are actually presented to me. I have not yet learnt contract verbs, and have thus left the option unselected, however they continue to appear in my study sessions.

On that note, the vocab/grammar selection are not at all intuitive, and I am suspicious that it is not at all working as intended.

Regarding the UI, it is also riddled with bugs: the layout of the main menu will randomly change width such that I need to scroll horizontally; the recent textbook bug mentioned above; the hint button is sometimes clickable, sometimes not.

Regarding improvements/features beyond the bug fixes aforementioned, it would be educationally beneficial to have the option of hiding the English translation of words so the student can practice recalling it. The ability to type in Greek to answer the lexical form portion of a card would also be beneficial.

Now I understand that this is quite a harsh review, and I must say that I will likely continue using the app just as I have not found a better alternative as of yet. However, after having paid $13 CAD I was expecting a smooth user experience (at the least), and hoping for a feature rich application that would streamline my Greek learning experience. I am thoroughly disappointed to say that neither of these expectations have been met. It is my opinion that the developer of this application is charging a dishonest amount for this application, and has not met the quality of work nor integrity that the Lord has commanded of us.

1. The "recent" ones would correspond to the specifics of the last quiz. If you are studying with a single grammar, but changing the content of the quiz, it will remember that if you want to do it again. I am okay with you not liking it, but it isn't a bug. 2. Please send me via the the support email (where these types of issues should be communicated) where the contract verbs are erroneously showing up. It is possible that I have an error in the data or that there is a bug, and if so I would like to fix it. 3. I don't understand what you mean about the lack of intuitiveness for vocab and grammar. I have not had any complaints about this. 4. If you could give me a screenshot (and the details of your device) for when you have a horizontal scroll occurring. It could be that you are using an older device, and so the horizontal scroll occurs. 5. If nothing occurs when you hit the hint button, it is because there is no hint to show. 6. Your suggestion of hiding the english meaning isn't a bad one, I'll think about this for the future. But this is a parsing quiz app, the focus is on morphology, not learning vocabulary. Your suggestion about typing in the word was actually something I tested with users over 15 years ago when I created the app, and the overwhelming response of users was to avoid typing. As mentioned above, I'd appreciate you send me the relevant information so I can determine what bugs, if any, you are encountering.

Great app!

Helps get the parsing down!

Now even better!

This latest upgrade is a significant improvement on the previous one, especially regarding the UI.
Ok, there are still a few errors in the database, but Danny is very quick to respond to emails pointing them out.
This is an essential app for anyone studying Koine Greek. Highly recommended.

Nope

What I received is just quizzes, not like the examples shown.

Essential for Learning Koine Greek

I wrote a review for Flash Greek, saying it was essential, but Parse Greek is even more vital. It’s the best way to move past needing to review paradigms in your head and internalize them so that you can read the NT with ease. I’ve had zero issues with the app personally; no glitches, no missing features. I use it daily for 5-10 minutes a day, and it really helps. I could not have passed my seminary NT Greek courses without this. I’m in Danny’s debt for the work he has done. Do yourself a favor a buy this app

Great app for learning your paradigms

This app is intuitive to use and full to the brim with content. What would make this even better would be being able to see example sentences of a given word when quizzed on it, so as to get a look at their senses and use as well. It would be marvelous to get the option to choose to review, say, only verbs and pronouns, excluding nouns, as opposed to either all or only one.

Random crashes

I’m on an iPhone 12 Pro Max with the latest update. I’m reviewing chapters 8 and 9. Periodically the app crashes and I lose my progress. This is quite frustrating.

Response from developer

Thanks for this info. In future, please email me with bug reports so that I can work towards a fix with some more detailed info. Once I’m able to correct the issue, please consider revising your rating and review.

Some help

Hi I think there are some problems with the term oida:)

Turns parsing into a game

This is a great app that is great for getting parsing down. The immediate feedback takes guesswork out of the equation. This is one of the two most useful apps I have found for greek practice.

Great App

This app is invaluable for my Greek course in seminary. It has been a tremendous help with learning so much new content. Also, I reached out to the developer regarding a problem I had with the app. They responded and fixed it in less than 24 hours.

Valuable Tool

Thank you for this app and for the regular updates! This is the most useful app in my learning Greek toolbox.

Great App but Shuts Down

I paid for the app to help me with Greek study and it’s been very helpful, but it will occasionally shut down in the middle of exercises, which is annoying (iPad OS 14.2). I would welcome the option to review wrong answers at the end to learn from them, because I can’t remember wrong answers after parsing 100 words. Maybe the function is already there and I just haven’t discovered it yet.
