Not free

Says it’s free but keeps popping up a paywall trying to do anything. Asking for a nominal fee to support development is one thing but it wants a MONTHLY fee or $50 one time. The only feature it seems to have over the official Jellyfin app is casting to chrome, which I can’t test if it even works well and am not buying a subscription just to check. Furthermore, this is built over a free, open source project. Honestly, kind of just seems like an easy cash grab.

Requires paid subscription to resume playback

what's the point?

Bruh

I’m not paying for a app I can’t even test, get lost

Best iOS client for Jellyfin hands-down

It works over Tailscale, it works in the house. It’s the only client that plays nice with HomePods. It supports all media types, but it’s a little touchy around ebooks, but it’s still usable.

It doesn’t quite fit into iOS well, some of the touch gestures yield unexpected results.

I know the paywall is a bother for some, but this is now an essential app for me.

Devs: please keep things privacy-first; I really need this app to stay great, and to not get creepy like so many other apps have lately.

Abysmal

Jellyfin is great. Using it on iOS? Not so great. There’s a native client app for it, but it only supports Movies and TV shows, which means I need a separate app for music. That served me good, but now I’ve gotten into ebooks, which means I need another. Here’s where Phyn comes in. Got it setup and start reading my book. Great, it works, user interface is attractive. Come back, and I get a paywall. Come back again, and it starts the book all over, an I have to flip through hundreds of pages since the table of contents, which works on the web app, doesn’t work. Rinse repeat. Even if these “features” are premium, it’s a subscription or an extremely high one time purchase. If I wanted to pay a subscription to read books, or do anything that jellyfin does, I’d pay for a subscription service where I don’t have to provide my own content. I guess I’ll just use the web app in my browser. Abysmal.

Great app

I have been trying to find an app that works and this app works great. I use it as an interface between Jellyfin to listen to my audiobooks . And phyn works great.

Hard selll

I could not demonstrate that the app works unless I paid the subscription.

This is a scam

I could not get it to work. The pay wall prevented me from really doing any investigation.

Fantastic

I use Phyn alongside Jellyfin and it work better than anything I have found

Amazing, beautiful, feature-rich Jellyfin client

In the growing field of Jellyfin clients, Phyn stands out. You can consume all library types, and the app interface is meticulously tailored to all kinds of media. I’m very excited to see where Phyn goes. Kudos to the developers!

Nice UI, a bit laggy, Premium prompts on resume

This app has a lot going for it. Nice UI. Subtitles look nice by default and are easy to resize. For me on an M2 Pro, the animation hangs every time I start playing media. Not a huge deal. It also prompts you to buy premium if you try to resume media, I’ve only been able to restart from beginning to get around that. That’s terrible and I probably wouldn’t ever support this software due to that, considering there are plenty of actually free ways to stream from one’s JF server.

Hard Sell - Paywall to test features

While I understand music playback is a premium feature a test run to review if the product is a good good fit for daily use even if limited to a few hours or a day would definitely help guide a good purchase decision especially for a subscription model.

Requires paid plan to simply play any song

Everything is paywalled, even simple click on a single song to play it.

Response from developer

Hi, Thanks for the feedback. Music playback is a premium feature however, video playback is entirely free.

No Apple TV app?

Great but desperately needs an Apple TV version. There are no good working Jellyfin options on Apple TV.

Great Support

This app has its kinks to iron out but the support to work around these issues is super. If you like self hosting your own jellyfin but want support for your players give phyn a go.
