Canceling Subscription

I tried to cancel my subscription and there is no option. I read through the terms and conditions and it says one option is to email the support and as of right now I’ve been back and forth with them and they are absolutely refusing to help me and pointing me at other things that aren’t even relevant. So beware if you sign up you’ll probably have to cancel your credit or debit card just to get it to stop which is the utmost scammy behavior.

Overall a solid learning tool!

I love the idea of mixed language books where you can adjust the density of your target language.

The only issue I’ve run into is that some of the translations are not correct in context, which would be easily caught by having a native speaker review the books. For this reason, it’s not useful for beginners who may learn the wrong meaning of a word or phrase, but it is a helpful grammar review and a good way to learn new vocabulary for intermediates who can already pick out the errors.

Prismatext, please have native speakers review the books. This would make the experience perfect!

Okay but has flaws

Support email address still not legitimate. Words and sentences missing at the end of the chapter and sometimes covered by the line at bottom showing reading progress.

Used to like it

Ok but not sure about new purchase model.

But early to know

So far this ap seems to be exactly what I was looking for, but I’ve literally used it 1 day so…

Enjoyable

I like this as an enjoyable method to learning. Personally I believe reading is one of the best transfer of knowledge ever invented. Read more you get smarter, the same cannot be said of watching tv. What I find most interesting is, I’m learning French and even when reading English in the text I have started to translate that into French. I guess this is the way it’s meant to happen.

This is not a free app

You have to buy the books you read or subscribe to a book credit plan. Many of the titles are in the public domain and available (for free and in multiple languages) on sites like the Internet Archive. The level of translation and support PrismText provides is simply not worth the cost.

Makes learning French fun

I have lots of apps to help me learn French and this is one of my favorite. By mixing in words and phrases I find it easier to pick up the language. C’est un app très merveilleux!

Lost access to my books… again. I give up

I’ve supported these guys since before they had an App and you paid for book sets via venmo… that setup there was actually better than this shift to app/subscription service. I understand that developers need a sustainable model with income generation, but the quality is just not there to justify it. I lost access to previously fully paid-for book sets (can’t read them via the app) and most recently the app won’t let me open the books I do own via this newer platform (yes, I’ve done the usual delete and reinstall gyrations).
The translation quality isn’t quite there, the app is blinding bright without dark mode, and book access weirdness have done me in. I’ve kept the extra star because the concept is still great and when you can get it to work, it’s a great way to learn

Not working

App no longer loads. I have purchases that I cannot access.

Dont waste your time for Spanish.

I tried for Spanish (advanced level) and they were no original books available. I tried a book in English supposedly available in Spanish. It was a complete joke, it was completely in English with and every now and then, part of a sentence translated in Spanish.

Good app but some frustrating bugs

It is great fun reading the story in two languages and you gradually pick up vocabulary. But only four stars as I have intermittent problems logging in (get a timed out error message) and there are quite a few errors such as missing capital letters and inexact translation phrases in the two books I’ve read so far

Over 4yr old app and still has issues

Doesn’t open. Just stays on a white screen with a spinning wheel. Did that after I said no to leaving a review. Hmm

Loses your page all the time so when you log back in after a while you have to find where you goto, mental!
They’ve had over 4 years to get this product right!
Can’t log into app if you have no signal so you have no access to your books. Really!?
They’ve now after years updated the app to full screen on iPad which is a very welcome update. The app still doesn’t sync reading place/ pages across iPhone to iPad so you lose your reading place. These issues may seem minor but believe me they ruin the user experience so I can only award 1 stars for an unfinished product.

The app will not load

The app will not load on any of my devices. I purchased books and they are unusable because I can’t open the app. I am very disappointed.

Hire actual speakers

Every phrase in the target language has obviously been generated with google translate. This might be ok if you are learning a language where google translate is extremely reliable, except especially early in the text, it seems they didn’t even plug in the entire sentence and then take the appropriate part as a translation. Meaning they only put part of a sentence into Google translate with no context. So for example, “lies” (the verb) is translated as “lies” (the plural of “lie”.) If you don’t already know some of the language, you would have no way of knowing that what you are learning is completely wrong. This app is worse than useless, it is actively detrimental to learning a new language.

Not enough Spanish

I want to love this, but in Pride & Prejudice the highest amount of Spanish is still fairly minimal. It’s a short occasional sentence or partial sentences here and there. I would have thought that higher level of Spanish would have significant portions in that language. Not worth it.

Helpful Language Learning Tool!

This app is a useful tool as part of my language-learning toolbox, alongside early reader books in my target language, textbooks, and other apps. It's a good way to get a broader range of vocab earlier in the language learning process ,compared to other resources. I've definitely learned some new vocab with Prismatext, as well as better internalized my existing vocab. I'm learning German, and it's been helpful to see the different forms (verb tenses, conjugations, etc.) that the same base word can take in different contexts, it's helped me naturally absorb some grammatical rules, rather than just memorizing.

App functions well and is easy/intuitive to use. The only request I have is that I would love to be able to put the app in dark mode :)

Really appreciate the effort to include a wide range of genres of books, and hope to to see the overall number of books increase as time goes on.

Too expensive

I would love this app and use it regularly but $18/month for just 1 credit each month is crazy. Would rather be able to purchase books individually.

Nice, But…

It’s a nice concept and the app is well made, for the most part. Some issues, however. I’m using it for Japanese and some of the substitutions are questionable in context, due to the lack of 1:1 translations between words. Sometimes the same word in English has multiple translations only some of which make sense in context, and the system does not quite account for that. It COULD, using e.g. vector word embeddings and other AI technologies (such as part of speech analysis - there are other cases where verbs and nouns were mixed up), so I hope it will improve. HOWEVER, the concept is still quite useful for learning vocabulary as long as these caveats are kept in mind.

Awesome concept

I am loving reading books that I love while also learning bits of French. The customer service is amazing, I accidentally purchased the wrong language book and they swapped it out for me. Very fast customer service as well.
