Crashes repeatedly when you filter by a single resource!

Update: now I can't even open the project on iOS because it crashes repeatedly due to the project tasks being filtered for a single resource.

This app both on windows desktop and iOS really is TERRIBLE and should be avoided at all costs.

---

My experience of Project Plan 365 has been pretty terrible. I'm using it via the Windows desktop app and also iPhone iOS app. In terms of simply entering tasks, setting up dependencies and assigning resources, it's easy and straight forward, but that's where it stops. Trying to group tasks into "headings" or sub-projects is buggy as hell. Tasks end up assigned to the wrong subgroup, task durations randomly change, and tasks may *look* like they've been successfully grouped only to find when you refresh the screen they haven't been and you have to start again. Additionally, one of my resources only works 2 hours a day on the project and despite me setting up an individual calendar for them with altered hours, the app still allocates 8 hours of work to them each day and then complains they are "over allocated". I've tried everything to get the app to correctly allocate just 2 hours a day and have had to resort to manual allocation as none of the auto allocations seem to honour the reduced hours. On the iOS app, it's impossible to read the calendar view because it's too small and you can't zoom in or change the number of days shown, making it entirely useless. Also frustrating there is no easy way to see on the app the tasks assigned to a particular resource on a particular day (on the desktop the calendar view works well for this, but on iOS it's unreadable). Thank god I've only got this app on a free trial. No way in hell I'd pay money for something as buggy as this.

Like so many things you can’t figure out how much it costs unless you down load

Sorry it would help if you were straight forward about costs. Instead you have to download to figure that out.

Has improved this past year from 1 to 4 stars

On an Ipad Pro M1, latest OS and latest PP365. User Interface has been dramatically improved. Predecessor/successor entries work as expected now. (2fs, 2ss, etc. for dependencies entries). Outdent/Indent (demote/promote) now works nicely (tab and shift tab that you’d use in MS Project can’t be used, but it’s an iPad user interface and the outdent/indent buttons on top work well. All the bugs seen a year ago as the app originally tuned for a Mac Desktop interface didn’t like touch interface of an iPad are gone. Still doesn’t offer Saving a File to icloud, so if you want to save there, you will still have to save to local device (default folder is DOCUMENTS), then use Filer to move the file to the iCloud. All the other industry standard cloud storage environments are available (dropbox, onedrive, etc.). Import and Export from/to MPP works flawlessly now. All the fields expected stay intact. Auto-Save will post the latest version (I have AS set to every 5 minutes) to a subfolder named RECOVERY. This is working nicely now (prior the folder was being created named RECORVERY). Being able to create tasks and subtasks quickly, without being forced to fill out all the additional columns, and then go back to do all that additional work later was buggy a year ago, but is now working nicely. Like I mentioned, a lot of user interface and feature/function improvements for the IOS platform! The Online HELP web site screens now have far more content for IOS/IPAD OS than they did before. Glad to see that! File/Print - this is still buggy. When you select Save to Files, a popup flashes and vanishes. So this still needs work. There is a work around. Instead of Print to PDF, choose Print. That brings up the iPad OS print view. Use two fingers to expand the left column’s page icons and that trick lets you now save as a PDF to a File or other destinations. This is about the only way to get any sort of a GANTT chart printed, but the formatting of the GANTT is a bit messed up. So again, there’s more work needed there. Other Reports though seem to work but certain reports will require a Business License (I still don’t grasp this tiered approach. As an individual PM, i use this so I don’t have to carry around an 5+ pound laptop while traveling. Developer should really just make all the reports and views available to any licensed user (whether individual or business). I don’t have 5 staff and I’d rather pay a SMALL bump to get ALL the reports and functions available rather than leap into a business license model). NOTE to Developers: Most of us using your app are doing so for more freedom via iPad as Individuals. Don’t keep limiting key pieces of reports and graphics to businesses. Most businesses will demand we use SmartSheets or MS Project within company networks and laptops, so you’re not going to see many (or any?) business licenses surface. Stop limiting this and you’ll see more individual licenses and NEW USERS signing up! The Bar, Column, Pie chart capabilities seem to work. Haven’t tried to actually export or print them yet though. Bottom line: If you need to import an MPP, it works. If you need to export an MPP, CSV, etc., it works. So the freedom I now get using this app on my iPad Pro M1 is extremely helpful and worth the license fees (but I still don’t see the justification for Business License bumps). Another glitch: There is no Agile nor Kanban type of capability built into the iPad OS version (this version). So any reference to Agile and Kanban you may read in product description or on web page is solely for the MAC version.

Hi! Thank you very much for your detailed review! We really appreciate the feedback and will take your suggestions into consideration for our future enhancements!

Glitchy, unreliable on iPad Pro, LOTS of problems. Don’t buy. Keep looking.

Just bought the trial activation subscription. At first use, there’s a lot of problems least of which is contrary to what is advertised, this does NOT have same user interface as MS Project. You can’t use Insert key on keyboard. You can’t use Enter, Ctrl/CMD Enter, Tab, Shift Tab. None of that works (ipad pro 2021 M1 12.9” and magic keyboard). Predecessor entries are a bit funky. It can’t recognize 2fs (task is successor to task ID 2 with a finish/start relationship). So when you hit ENTER after clicking the predecessor cell twice slowly (if you click it twice fast, a full unnecessary view of all task settings pops up, and worse still, that pop up is fixed at center of screen, so you can’t move it to the side and use it to fill in task details for other tasks for instance), the 2fs entry disappears. If however you type 2FS (upper case), like magic ENTER makes it stick. Sometimes. The ENTER key itself is glitchy. Sometimes you have to tap somewhere else on that task row on the screen to get back to main task or gantt sheet view (the ENTER key randomly does nothing). So there’s really odd things about it happening. This next few days will pull in MPP files and see how that goes and will send my PP365 MPP created files to folks with MS Project 2016 to see what they can see. The Help links (whether via Erix or other means) send you to a web form that pretends it has no idea who you are (so the erix link and the FILE/HELP menu do not pass along your details into the contact/help submittal). That web form’s text entry block does NOT like special characters like “double quotes”. If you add those, no matter what you do the submit will fail. Oddly the erix and other links to Help contact form also do not pass along the version of the software, so you have to manually hunt that in the app, copy, paste. Not sure who wrote pieces of this but QA is a mess. When you set auto saves to say every 5 or 10 minutes, you get a bit of a funny/disappointing surprise. Seems the author has spelling problems. It creates a folder named RECORVERY instead of RECOVERY. Just sayin. So if you are used to hammering out a set of tasks by hitting ENTER after each entry, THEN going back to set duration, resources, predecessor/successor relationships, forgeddaboudit. Also the help info on line (there’s nothing embedded in the app… all help paths send you to the web site) has practically nothing for ipad users. There’s stuff for PC’s, MACs, and iPhones. There’s mention of IOS (separate from iPhones content) but nothing useful. No keyboard shortcuts for ipad users. A LOT of work is needed to clean this app up. Hopefully my review of MPP in and out will reveal more good than bad. Will add/revise the review after I get responses [fingers crossed] from support and more from my MPP testing. UPDATE1: no iCloud integration (if it is, it’s well-hidden). You can see drop box and other cloud storage but no mention of iCloud, for neither an iPhone nor an iPad Pro. Hmmm. Definitely more work needed on this app. It could be a killer app if user interface, reality that apple devices like iCloud in addition to OneDrive, drop box, box, JIRA, etc., and silly glitchy things were cleaned up. UPDATE 2: no way to create a printed GANTT chart report. Might have to buy the Business Subscription? Also created a customer report option: DASHBOARD view. It saves to the primary folder of the app (on an iPad Pro). But when you go to launch the Dashboard report, you get a set of errors. Housatonic Project cannot open file. Check to make sure the file name is valid (um, housatonic created the file!). Check that file format is recognized by microsoft project (Um, would be nice if it was recognized by Housatonic Project Plan 365!?). Project files created in version earlier than MS Project 98 can’t be opened. So apparently, housatonic decided to create reports and dashboards using an very old version of tools from microsoft? Dunno. But all this results in me cancelling the trial and killing the subscription. Huge waste of time here. UPDATE3: well here we are 7 months later and still no ipad pro keyboard support, still no iCloud storage support, and it appears none of the bugs referenced above have been fixed either.

Would NOT recommend

I tried the app, and forgot to cancel. So naturally I was charged $200NZ for a full year with zero courtesy email or any warning of the trial period ending. I have emailed multiple times in the last 10 or so days with no response. If that is any indication of the support you get when paying $200 then that’s shocking.

Works Great1

I use it on my MacBook and IPad and never have any problems sending it to other PMs (.MPP files) or receiving their files.

It just works. Srd

Response from developer

Hi! Thank you so much for your positive feedback! We are really glad our application suits your requirements!

Good to open the file free

As someone in a commercial role who only needs to read and print project files, I find this app invaluable. It seems reasonable to charge for full commercial use of the planning tool to me, but it is irritating that others charge for even this basic function.

Awesome

So far after using it for a couple of hours it’s solved all our program distribution issues for our construction sites. Well done!!

No support, just starting out and no support, videos, not addressing the issues.

Support, lack of.

Good application

Very close to Microsoft project manager. I would really want a more ... Mac OS like design))

Hi! Thank you for your feedback! We really appreciate it! We will add your request in our future enhancements list.

Can’t load local imported files, too expensive

I exported a project from another app in xml format to try here. When I go to import from my device, I have no option to select the folder that has the file. Worse, of all the cloud storage options accessible in the app, I couldn’t get Dropbox or OneDrive to work, and iCloud Drive isn’t an option. No iCloud, on an iPad? Really?

$130 per YEAR? No. Half of that as a one-time license purchase maybe, but not as a subscription.

Nope Nope Nope

“Free”= not
Started building projects , app crashed with a recurring daily task of length- 365 days, not only deleting that task but all other tasks and project itself. If it blew an hour of my time, it will blow weeks down the line. First impression fell in the trash can.
Please cancel my 30 day free trial even though I have 29 1/24 days left. ***** CANCEL *****

It just works!

I’m a contractor PM and use my Mac and iPad whilst working with clients who are windows based. This is the nearest thing to MS Project itself that I have found. I have tried lots of other apps and web-based project management tools but none of them really cut it in the way that this does. Well worth it if you need to work with MPP files but an excellent tool even if you don’t need that functionality.

Simple, Feature Rich, Affordable

I am a full time freelance project manager, juggling multiple projects.

I have tried various project management apps over the years that would work seamlessly between my Mac and IOS devices. Many of them are either too complicated or way too expensive.

Project Plan 365 is very reasonably priced when compared to the competition, straight forward to use and stable across all my devices.

I am able to exchange project plans with MS Project users with no issues and love the straight forward export to PDF functionality.

The few queries I have had, were answered very quickly, even on weekends!

Highly recommended!

It cant open big files

It keeps crashing when I try to open a file. It also doesn’t support budget.

I use it, but....

I have to be really careful not to make it crash. So all my charts have to be pretty simple. Please keep developing! I have hope!
