Works great

Low key app. Good for ear training. I use it when I have free couple minutes.

Could be better

Useful but it would be better if there it kept a graph of your scores and had more of a guided journey from easy to hard

Would be nice to be able to train out of a set 12-ET

Hey there. Awesome job on this one. I’m glad someone finally got to create an app that should be around for decades. No one should have to guesstimate and waste tons of time for even an uncertain outcome. While it’s perfect for modern day audio production and engineering, folks like me who have to work with early music (countless temperaments, or none at all) and non-Western music would be more than happy to have the app able to train us for non 12-ET « pesky » but also tasty and refreshingly good intervals and frequencies! They require loads more finesse in handling complex music than the usual 12-ET-based stuff, and they consequently require more accuracy and flexibility… give it some thought, will you? I’ll be the first to tell my countless enthusiastic peers around the globe about your app (already done, but I don’t mind doing it again) if it’s able to help train engineers and musicians to handle something else than 12-ET based music. Thanks for your time and effort, and keep improving the app.

Solid.

Basic navigable UI, no ads so far (been like 3 days), Easy to repeat. Lots of different sounds to train the ear with as well. Unless you have a dying oath to another app there should be no reason you don’t pick this up.

ah idk maybe theres nothing better but pls fix this

That 7 year old review about the - and + being messed up in gain still holds up, pretty annoying and embarrassing if thats this the same issue. Then on off button sometimes means off and sometimes on when lit which is confusing.

Response from developer

Happy to clarify here: the +/− behavior isn’t a bug, but part of the training design. Some quizzes use boosts (+) and others use cuts (−), because learning to hear what’s added vs what’s removed are different skills. The power button simply toggles processing on/off— in a Hard (−10 dB) quiz, power enabled removes frequency content, while in a Hard (+5 dB) quiz it adds it. The same applies in Gain quizzes, where some answer sets are gain boosts and others are gain cuts. If this clarification helps, we’d appreciate you updating your review so it doesn’t unintentionally confuse other users.

Lub it.

So much potential, but no new features

I’ll start that Quiztones is an excellent app for ear frequency training and has been super helpful for my learning. My biggest issue is that they’ve added no new features or additions/functionality to the app in the past year that I’ve been a paid subscriber. As it stands, it has two tests for identifying octave, 1/3 octave frequencies as well as tests for changes in gain level, and EQ boosts/cuts. I emailed the founder about a year ago with suggestions for the app including stat tracking, accuracy counters, etc. He responded saying they are working on a score tracking functionality but the app is no different than it was from a year ago. With programs like SoundGym available online (and no mobile app), QuizTones has so much potential to add so much more usefulness to their product in a part of the app store that sees no other current competition. I really want to keep using this app but my training has stagnated with the lack of variety offered here in comparison to SoundGym, with no sign of exciting development being offered by QuizTones.

Needs to be Improved

I think the app is a great idea. I like practicing ear training, but I’ve got a big problem with this app- It’s only subscription based.

I want to own what I buy! No I don’t want to lease a phone app. Make a reasonably priced lifetime Pro and I’ll buy it.

Gut, aber nervig buggy

An sich ist die App super, aber wenn der An-/Aus-Button ständig Quatsch anzeigt, leider nicht wirklich nutzbar.

Download it, trial offer expires? Money grab!

Way too much to bother, subscriptions are already a turn off, you have to chase down someone cause you cant cancel, so now they added a expiration period to try the app.

EXCELLENT way to learn the frequencies

I got this app off an Instagram ad for producers. I have been exceptionally pleased as to how my recognition of the frequencies has increased. It takes some time but it’s well worth it to be able to have a sort of perfect pitch. I’ll almost certainly pay for a second year when my subscription expires. Thanks Quiztones!

Computer version?

Great app, I’d love to be able to do the exercises on my studio monitors though. Any plans for a PC/Mac version?
