Much improved version

I have used RainAware for many years. It is the easiest way to see when rain is coming, what the intensity will be, and when it will end. I just opened the newest version and it is a big improvement. I really like how I can move what looks like a second hand on an analog clock around the dial to see the exact time of the rain activity. I also like how the map can be shown behind the rain clock. There is also a ton of adjustments that can be made in settings to customize to your liking, but default settings seem to work fine.

New update

I've used the app for years and it really helps on the jobsite, pouring concrete, etc. though the new update is like stepping back to MSDos. A lot more detail and functions, but not as user friendly as the older. Hope it's a step in the right direction. Still absolutely worth the purchase.

Response from developer

TayAnthem, appreciate the positive vibe! I hope you have found the new notification & alerts function inside Settings menu, since the old version did not have alerts. You can even set the alerts to heavy vs light rain, and define a minimum total rain time required to alert (for example, you can weed out short 5-10 minute light rains). One other thing, you might try "legacy" navigation, which some people like better because it is closer to the old app. You can test out by going to Settings > Main Clock Screen > Rain Summary, then turn switches on or off. I am happy to answer any further questions via the "Contact" button at the bottom of the Settings menu. Hope to talk to you soon. RA

Was better before the changes

I’d used this app for years and loved how simple/accurate/user-friendly it was. They have since done an update that spoiled all that.

Update lost my license

I paid for a one time lifetime license. The latest update kills that and wand an annual subscription now. How to get it reinstated?

new update RUINED this app

used to be a great app to open and quickly check rain chances for the next three hours. After recent update, app now takes forever to launch, and it is a train wreck to find anything. wish I had never updated app to new version.

New App

What’s going on, it used to be my go to app for Weather and ever since you did the new change it has never been correct. I am so disappointed. I used to brag about this after everybody I came across.

New Update Ruined It

This used to be my favorite weather app. It was perfect for a quick glance at the rain forecast for the next few hours. Now it’s a mess. It’s not just different, but it’s now slow to launch and inconsistent. Sometimes it shows the rain clock on launch, sometimes the radar, making it even slower to see the forecast. They also removed the bar graph view that combined the rain clock with % chance of rain and rain intensity. That was the best part about it. I’ve messed with the settings and nothing seems to put it back how it was or even fix some of the new issues. And I even payed for this thing when I first found it. All I want is to be able to disable all the extra stuff and use it as a quick reference again.

Hello AxelMajere. Just following up to see if you saw the last message, and if you got things working how you like. Previous Message: It sounds like you might have the old version. Or, have not turned on the settings that make it more like the old app. Please go to Settings > Main Clock Screen > Rain Summary, then turn on the switches. You will see RainClock always shows, and has the "quick summary" wording inside it. You will also see the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen. Please let me know if that works for you!

Used to be great, updates not intuitive

I can’t figure out where my saved locations went from before the update, and now trying to save them is not intuitive at all. I search using zip code and there’s no option to save it. Not liking this update at all

Excellent

Changed rating from 2 to 5 stars. Developer support is also 5 stars. My weather information needs are very modest but it is clear that the developers are trying hard to make the program the best that they can.

Thank you very much for your response. Your last paragraph describes the problem. I would like all 3 larger charts to maintain their titles (and corresponding content)

After today’s update, it is still a two star program. The developer was kind enough to respond, saying the below problem would be fixed, but it wasn’t.

Could be a very useful program but there are two serious problems: the rectangular graphs don’t retain their settings and don’t automatically update - the designated names for them e.g. precipitation amount changes to something else, and the date on top does not correspond to the dates represented in the graphs below the date.

Favorite app

They changed this app. I learned how to use it. It’s good again.

New update

I’ve used RainAware for years - it is amazing at predicting rain at my exact location for the next three hours! Recent update had a few issues but the most recent update fixed those!

What happened?

Hate the new update!!! Extremely difficult to navigate!

Mad Scientist Weather App

This app morphed from a straightforward and focused "when is it going to rain / stop raining" app to a hyper-flexible data-dense full featured weather app.

I think a lot of people find themselves in a state of shock when they first open the new version. It is so data-dense and button-heavy as to be overwhelming at first.

And the options! There are too many and they are often unclear until you become more familiar with the new design. I think the number of configurable options would be easier to digest with some UI tweaks. For example, opening to new screens instead of opening a plethora of drop-down menus. Also, a help button on each options page with details of every setting would be very helpful.

Another little thing -- the settings screen (and many other screens) have three ways to dismiss it -- tap the down arrow in the upper left corner, tap the X button in the upper right corner or drag the screen down from the top. This is overkill and confusing!

The forecast seems a bit general. For example, it says there is a 30% chance of rain on Wednesday, but no hints as to when the rain will appear or how much will fall. Note that this detail *is* available for the next 36 hours, but not beyond that.

I am glad the developer set a "like it was before (kind of)" toggle. I tried it and decided I like the new version better, but it is a more gentle introduction to long-time users of the app.

The more I play around with this, the more I like it.

In summation, I think this app was designed by a mad weather scientist (and I mean that mostly as a compliment). I am confident the app will get better and easier to use -- it just needs some iterative love to make it shine.

Thank you AmberCrystal. It is a bit overwhelming, even for seasoned meteorologists. I will admit that the settings menu grew into a "monster" over time. I"m not even sure how to approach documenting everything, but I will eventually. I think some youtube videos would be best. And I like your idea of re-designing the settings menu to be more focused (tap a section, open entire new sheet). It's funny you said "mad scientist", because I jokingly considered renaming it "InsaneAware". That said, you are right, once you build the muscle memory, it becomes easier. The fact is there are very limited ways to pack such an immense amount of functionality onto a small screen (without being in sub-menu hell). Given your description, I assume you are already a subscriber? If not, I recommend unlocking with a day pass to see the "real deal". Also on tablet or computer screen is best. I think people are way smarter than they think and I want to give everyone the opportunity to learn how leverage this weather data. Thanks again.

Not updating

RainAware updated to the new version on my Apple phone but it keeps saying waiting. What happened? I cannot see the rain updates.

Liked old version better

To detailed and difficult to use for a basic user.

They’re Trying to be Like Other Apps

Update: i received a response from the developer explaining how to make it look like the old way and I am grateful for that. It does make it more familiar so I am appreciative. I will up my rating but still think that sometimes change is for the sake of change (and with apps like other products it’s for the sake of competition). I don’t need (or want) the entire crew of “The Weather Channel “ in one app. I am also appreciative of the developer caring enough about their customers to respond and to do so rapidly. am so disappointed in the changes. It used to be so simple but explicit for what it was meant to be. Now everything is crowded and has so much data but no real view of rain probability. It’s now just like all the other apps that throw tons of info in to overload you. It was my go to app now it’s going to be deleted. What a Shame.

Version 2.1.0 is now available in the App Store! When you update it, keep both purple switches "on" in the "What's New" popup. Your feedback played a critical role in making the app better for everyone, I hope you like the changes.

Redesign is a mess

Longtime user. Loved the old simplicity and accuracy. The redesign is cluttered, hard to read, and not accurate. Please give option to revert. I hate the new version.

Getting used to the new app

What used to be a great weather app is now so complicated that it’s hard to get used to. The developers have been great though, reaching out to me and explaining things (thank you!). This new version just takes some getting used to. Think I still prefer the simplicity of the original.

Don’t…they ruined it

Bad upgrade…it was, for years, my go to weather app. Easy, intuitive info. They just upgraded it and it’s a jumbled mess. And they want you to pay for “premium”. GFY. My local FOX station has a free weather app . Deleting this one now.

It's like 2 apps, really

As a weather enthusiast, I have now found my new all in one, go to app! Still has the "rain times" clock, but added a pretty impressive weather map (the subscription version).
