Worked about 50% of the time until recently not at all

Constant scans that would run and return as no codes found when check engine light was clearly on. From checking history I found these scans were not even valid showing as NO VIN. Now the scan runs to 90% and shows an error with a troubleshooting screen. Can’t get it to work at all anymore
