Rolla beautiful cycling app

Rolla is aesthetically the most beautiful cycling app there is. Sure, you aren’t racing hundreds of people or looking for the next person to draft from, but if you enjoy cycling and don’t care about proving yourself against anyone but yourself, then this app is fantastic. The scenery is beautiful, graphics top notch and even the avatar moves and behaves more realistically than other apps. And it is still evolving with constant upgrades and has a development team constantly open to suggestions and feedback.

Highly recommended for those looking for a mindfulness change to the hectic racing of other platforms and still currently free. And don’t worry if you don’t have a powerful computer, you can stream your ride from their server to keep the high end graphics.

Maddeningly Useless

As a virtual cycling, enthusiast, and technical product manager, I respectfully remind you that showing a spinner on any device does not communicate to the end user that everything is fine, it simply communicates to them that their system has not crashed.

On the windows system, I am trying to sync display with my iOS device, the windows app simply pegs CPU usage, and the iOS device keeps dropping the display. I am unable to get it to work at all.

This is after interminable waits on both devices, reasonable network speeds, and yes, both devices are on the same network. Everything works fine with Zwift, just not with your product.

Hello Jonathan, We're sorry to hear about the issues you are facing with. If your device cannot run Rolla World local rendering smoothly, you could try cloud rendering, or lower the resolution for local rendering. Both options are available by clicking gear icon in the upper right corner of Rolla World. Could you kindly share your PC specifications with us? You can just respond to the ticket you already created.

Awesome App

Have had no technical issues even though running on somewhat antiquated devices. I like the simple interface with specific courses each providing specific terrain so I can tailor my training. Best of all the fantastic graphics which are a million times better than those offered by the Z app. Congrats on a brilliant product.

Rolla One

This has come a long way. The scenery and trainer resistance are spot on. Love it

Not ready for anything

Doesn’t connect to treadmills or any service except Garmin, no Rolla World app for iOS. Imagine bringing a product to market with no actual product.

Response from developer

Hello, Rolla supports connection to Bluetooth treadmills. What is the model of your treadmill? We have a connection with Strava and Garmin. Uploading our activities to Strava and importing activities from Garmin. Rolla World app is available to download on iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and some other platforms as well. You can get all download links at https://www.rolla.app/world I am sorry to hear about the bad experience you had with Rolla, and hope that you will contact us at support@rolla.app so we can help you have a better experience and update this review.

ROLLA

I mainly use Rolla for virtual cycling - it’s absolutely superb graphically and I just can’t stop looking at the virtual scenery!
Solo rides are wonderful and group rides are coming very soon!
You can record indoor and outdoor activities in Rolla -

Wouldn’t load

Environment wouldn’t load on my iPad. After trying for a bit switched over to Rouvy and had a good ride.

Response from developer

Hello, When you enter Rolla One, select one of the Virtual Activities, Virtual Cycling for example, iPad is visible under the Display tab. Once you connect to it, it should be a message on iPad "Connecting to a server" followed by a server name. Did you get that message? Feel free to send more details at support@rolla.app Virtual world is available only for Virtual Activities (those marked with green color)

It has potential

I like some of the ideas behind this app, but it doesn't appear to be ready or very reliable.

My setup is using a Mac, iPhone and TracX and after getting everything installed I could not start and activity before I rebooted my Mac and iPhone. After that I could start the activity, which appeared to work, although I didn't really feel like elevation changes were impacting the TracX resistence. Also, when the activity was finished it was recorded in Rolla One, as a mostly empty activity. With no spped, Power, Distance, Elevation or Descent recorded.

Application not ready

Seems promising, but too much issues.
- cycling avatar when out of saddle has either one shorter legs or hemorrhoids
- runner avatar run at a steady pace even when climbing 11%
- when switching from big ring to small, takes forever to adapt
- when climbing (even if not downshifting and pushing more watts) avatar and speed slows down anyway
- still while climbing, slows down on same gear, but shift to easier gear (should slow down) but speed slightly increases
- can’t keep up with runners on climb
- runners runs like maniacs

Plus:
- nice graphics
- promising roadmap if they develop it

Improvement wished (part from the bugs):
- add a roadmap profile in the screen
- add some sounds

Rolla One

It’s great after being initially a bit confusing to start. The graphics are amazing to watch as you ride. It’s has a few momentary glitches but nothing any longer than a second or two. I will be excited when more routes are added. Everything seems to work accurately and synchronizes very well.

Response from developer

Thank you for this amazing review and support. The new UI coming with future updates will make starting the activity much less confusing. We're glad to see that your overall experience was very good.

Waste of time

First the display menu never appeared so although the phone connected to the computer and so could read the smart trainer, I could not start the graphics in the computer app.

Next I tried to reinstall. After that it would not accept my password. If I tried to create a new account it said that account already exists. If I asked for a password reset, it never arrived. Two hours later I gave up.

Doesn’t work

Anyone able to get this app to work?

Response from developer

Hello, We are here to help you. Feel free to contact us directly at support@rolla.app with any kind of question or problem you have.

Doesn’t work, that’s it.

The app connects to my wahoo kickr supposedly but then no power is reflected in the app.
No Apple Watch connection, and also doesn’t seem to be an Apple Health connection either.
Back to the ugly but reliable Zwift app.

Response from developer

Hello acotilla91, Apple Watch is not sending data over Bluetooth to non-Apple apps without 3rd party applications. Apple Health connection is in our plans. What is the exact model of your Wahoo Kickr? Feel free to write us at support@rolla.app or https://feedback.rolla.app/

After update, power measure stop working

Previous version just cadence doesn’t work, now with the latest update both power and cadence not work. Can you please fix it?

Response from developer

Hello Astronusx, We are sorry to hear about your experience. Can you please share more information? What exact device you are using as power/cadence sensor? Feel free to contact us at support@rolla.app.

Can’t connect to a display

Through multiple attempts, I cannot get this app to connect to a display for the life of me. I’ve tried connecting to my smart TV, Apple TV, and laptop. All of which are connected to my Wi-Fi network (LAN). This app needs major development as it seems a lot of people are having the same issues with connecting to displays, HR monitors and power source. FYI I was able to connect my HR monitor and power source but how can I even experience the app if I can’t cannot to a display. Very disappointed so back to Zwift.

Feel free to contact us at support@rolla.app or leave your feedback at https://feedback.rolla.app/

Give it some time

I could not get the app to pair with my iPad tried for 2 hours, it would not pair with the cadence on my Tacx

Back to Zwift

Very much a beta experience, but the app isn’t labeled as beta. There were lots of little problems. I couldn’t get cadence to connect. It didn’t upload to Strava. Things like elevation was labeled as “foots” and descent was in meters, but descent registered as 0. I’m probably forgetting other problems, but that’s what it was forgettable…

Edit: Thanks for your response. I’ve already deleted the app. I’d start by trying to address the above problems.

Good potential

With a good wifi signal strength, I had good experience using an indoor cycling trainer, HRM, windows PC for the screen, iPhone app.
Could not connect to Strava so cannot upload ride at present.
Overall a good package though basic functionality so far. No workouts, only saw one other user on screen.
