Uninstalled and reinstalled several times, but original configuration is not brought over

I get an empty home screen that’s completely useless. I don’t see the macros from I the original Roomie Remote. It says I’m supposed to unsubscribe from my perpetual license, but I would rather see settings come over first before I do so. So far I’m still using the old one and I don’t understand what I’m supposed to be doing here. Preview images look great in the App Store, but it doesn’t look remotely like that. Just empty screens.

Want to use it

1 star would be unfair because I haven’t been able to use it. But that’s the issue, it says 1 Smart TV can be set up for free, right? Not sure what constitutes as a Smart TV on the app, but I tried my Samsung TV which directed me to purchasing a subscription. Wasn’t sure what to make of that so I then tried Android TV for my Google Streamer and was hit with the same notification, so I’m not really sure how to proceed.

Not honoring perpetual subs

I bought the original roomie remote with a perpetual subscription and here they go and release a new version and poof! No longer honored. Super scummy.

Lifetime licence promise broken

I bought a lifetime license, and suddenly I am asked to pay for a new license for this version X, which doesn’t even offer the option of paying for a new “lifetime” license, adding insult to injury. Poor commercial practice.

No support half baked

Long time user of the product. But version 10 is complete trash. No support, not even an email, just a half baked support page. Says it support all sorts of stuff but good luck getting it to work. Example smart things connects but tells you to hit button to get code…..but no button. This is the random weirdness in the new version.

Annoying update

I had the prior version of Roomie. It recommended upgrading to Roomie X and said everything would be transferred. It failed to transfer all activities so the upgraded remote failed to work. In addition, Roomie x would not let me edit the configuration. In addition, it appears that the new Roomie requires an always on primary controller. That’s a non starter for me. The old Roomie app still works but it continues to tell me to install the new version. Overall very annoying upgrade.

Update - . I have a simple configuration with a Roku, receiver, projector and screen. After trying it again, it’s still broken. It fails to import the stewart screen device. Worse still, while my phone is the primary controller, it’s in read only mode and I can’t change it to allow editing. Fortunately, the old Roomie Remote still works but it continues to tell me to upgrade to Roomie X every time it’s opened.

Configuration Issues

Been using Roomie Remote for years. None of my devices or settings came across correctly with new RR X.

Great app but…

Great app but I purchased the lifetime subscription back on the old version when it was new. Now they come out with this new version as a new app, can’t bring over my lifetime subscription or any of the data. They no longer offer the lifetime subscription so this is their way of getting more money out of those who supported them early on. So my one start is for the developer.

Poor Support

The app is generally good although various changes from v9 have caused issues on this version. However the main problem remains - the developers utter disdain for his users/customers. Instead of helping you're made to feel inadequate/stupid. Thankfully the forum has moved to Reddit but his attitude is the same as before. It's hard to know if he simply enjoys belittling people or simply has no idea how to communicate effectively. For the support alone I'd recommend staying clear unless you're happy not needing any support.

Lifetime subscription

NOT SO MUCH! Charge excessive amount for lifetime subscription and whenever you want pretend the new version is a new app so that you can extort more money! Seriously F OFF!

Not again….

I am a LONG time user of roomie in all its forms. And here we go again. For whatever reason we are faced with upgrading to a new version, without a clear way to do this without blowing up our own work.

For those not in the know, roomie is actually a wonderful app. But the issue is that it takes days not hours to set up the entire app and get it all working. I’ve got several rooms and it all integrates a ton of devices. Every few years the app changes its form, and you are forced to go back in again and redo a lot of programming and such. And the help for all this is vague at best.

To add insult to injury, I bought a “lifetime” subscription to this app in an earlier form. And the process for bringing that subscription to version 10 is unknown to my knowledge. When I tried downloading this and bringing my “restore purchases” from version 10 or 9, it didn’t work. And the on,y way to get the old app is to arduous at best.

This app needs better support, but it also needs a more seamless transition when a new version comes out.

All that said, I haven’t seen anything better in my searching. And once you get it set up, it’s pretty awesome. Mother in law and babysitter proof. But I hate having to redo all my system like this.

I’d happily give you 10 stars if you could fix what I am talking about here.

Please help us.

Great upgrade

Like the new setup. Easier to get to things, all my activities transferred over seamlessly. Best remote I’ve used after the AVA and Unfolded Circle fails I had. Worth it

Excellent Update with V10

I’ve been using Roomie since 2012 and this update is one of the better ones as far as I’m concerned. I have close to 100 devices and about 550 activities in my configuration. The performance is top notch, and the battery usage has dropped drastically. I really appreciate what the Roomie team has done.

Home Command Center

The Home Dashboard is a game-changer for me: displays activity across rooms, quick-access buttons + Grateful how it simplifies my life without breaking the bank too

Excellent Update with V10

I wasn’t planning to ever speak my mind about this app again with all the past support issues and push back from the developer, but let me say, this is one of the better version updates I’ve seen since version 4. It makes you realize how buggy v9 was. Performance has improved, battery usage dropped drastically, remote access is now fully capable. The AI integration for support is a nice touch. Other than activities and devices I don’t do much customization, I’ve learned over the years not to trust any built-in automation or module customization.

Response from developer

This was resolved in 10.0.1.

They did it to us again...

I've been using Roomie for 15 years, 4 name changes and 3 rewrites... And every rewrite is a disaster! If you're migrating from v9, you will be redoing all your layouts and activities again. The only thing that migrates correctly is your actual devices. All your activity macros will be broken and your layouts will be all redesigned for you! All of your custom elements and channel macros will be gone, and even some will be replaced with new ones that Roomie picked out for you! I'm sick of spending a fortune on this app and having to redo it all, over and over! I'm staying on 9 until they force me off of it, which they always do eventually.

Without warning the upgrade you lose so much

Disappointed that there was no warning that this latest agreed to X. I would suddenly have all of my homes, disabled and lots of functionality and features removed because my subscription wasn’t significant enough to cover all the previous set up so now I’ve lost everything. I think this is the time for me to go and look at other solutions. Roomie has totally screwed things up for me. Be very, very careful if you are planning to upgrade the latest Roomie Remote X make sure you do your homework before you upgrade.

Thank you :)

Amazing app

Great upgrade. Been a very long time user and love seeing all the improvements. Fresh look is welcome and ability for kids to use on their iPads in of itself was huge for me.

For me this is worth even penny.
