Long way to go

A platform built for personal music collection but relies on qobuz/tidal to create mixes. Ok-ish UI experience.. can’t match streaming services.

If You Know, You Know

If you’re a serious music listener willing to make an investment with a proper system, Roon is your only option. It’s not intended for casual users. There’s a learning curve that when understood, it enables you to travel down deep rabbit holes of music exploration. Highly recommended.

Great when it loads

Constantly stuck waiting for roon to “enable” the device. Why does it need to be re-enabled all the time? And why does it take forever sometimes? App still doesn’t feel smooth.

simply the best

This is the best for music catalog storage and multi player platform. Have tried many others including Audirvana but despite the odd software glitch experienced by others (not myself) I’ve always found this to be excellent. Fast responsive even Roon arc, never any issues. Would highly recommend an improvement over native naim and qobuz apps and certainly better than tidal or apple, which isn’t difficult.

Suddenly not supported

Despite always having problems when the app was updated, it would work. But not now. My new(ish) QNAP NAS is causing a problem as the QNAP server is no longer compatible with Roon. Had to get rid of it.

FAQ

What is Roon and how does it work?

Roon is a music player that reshapes how you browse and explore your music library. It uses rich metadata to create a journey of musical discovery, connecting performers, composers, and genres. The Roon experience requires a Roon Server on your network, and this app acts as a controller for that server.

What kind of audio devices are compatible with Roon?

Roon is compatible with over 1,000 audio devices. This includes Roon Ready, Airplay, Chromecast, and USB devices. The app ensures flawless playback and precision audio control for a wide range of gear, from headphones to home hi-fi systems.

Can I use Roon to play music from streaming services?

Yes, Roon allows you to play from your collection of music files as well as libraries from TIDAL, Qobuz, and KKBOX. This integration provides a comprehensive music listening experience within the Roon ecosystem.

Is Roon free to use?

The Roon App itself is free to install on as many devices as you like. However, the Roon experience requires a Roon Server on your network, which is a separate component. Further details on server requirements and potential costs should be sought from the Roon website.

What is Roon ARC?

Roon ARC is a feature that provides access, playback, and precision audio control for your entire Roon music library directly from your phone, wherever you are in the world. It extends the Roon experience beyond your home network.
