Good concept but…

I’ve been using this for about a month now. While I like the concept the constant analysis of literally everything you say is extremely irritating now. I’m a qualified Psychotherapist and some of the advice could be quite harmful because it’s providing it’s own interpretation of what you say without any real context. Some of the insights into the journal entries are completely inaccurate. It has also labelled me as defensive for pushing back on a couple of completely ridiculous things it said then brought it up again later! Totally bizarre. Not every sentence needs analysed! It would be helpful if there was an option to just journal freely without the ai analysis so you could choose rather than it analysing everything. Can’t see me using it much longer it’s quite irritating now.

Thank you so much for this detailed feedback. We appreciate you flagging the insights and the analysis, if you're willing to share more context about your experience, we'd love to hear from you at support@rosebud.app to see how we can improve. Rosebud's tone and responses can be adjusted and we would like to see if this would help.

Good but overpriced

Good emotional support and journaling but way overpriced.
Also desktop app is very poor.

Response from developer

Hi! Can you kindly send us an email us at support@rosebud.app to see if we can help you better with accessible pricing?

I needed this app without realising I did

Brilliant this app has helped me in way I didn’t think of and calms my anger when I’m struggling. It’s worth trying it may help you more than you think - but that’s just my opinion

Helping me to see myself and get through my RSD patterns

This app is helping me to understand my behaviour patterns, for anyone who has done the CBT but whose negative self image or worth ultimately keeps coming back to say you’re not good enough!

Exactly what I need

Being able to just brain dump and then get some insights and can go deeper is exactly what I need. The app then has recommendations on other reading and quotes etc depending on what I’ve said and where intention should go. It’s amazing so happy I found it! And I’m only 4 days in haha

Response from developer

Thank you so much for sharing this! We're so happy that Rosebud is giving you a space to think things through!! 🤩

Amazing

I love this app! It helps me navigate my thoughts and offers useful suggestions that keep me centred and restore my sense of calm. It also keeps me focused on my intentions and the insights I've gained through journaling, as it kindly and respectfully reminds me of what I've learned about myself.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for sharing this! We're so glad Rosebud is helping you stay centered and connected to the insights you've gained ✨

Very helpful to see patterns

I started using Rosebud when I was noticing toxic patterns my partner and I were stuck in. I have a therapist, he has a therapist, we had a couples therapist too. I started using Rosebud and putting in incidences and things my partner was saying to me. Rosebud was able to point out that things were really not good, even though I was hearing that from friends, my therapist, and eventually the couples therapist. It wasn’t until I saw everything typed out and Rosebud picking up on toxic patterns that I was able to really see my partner was a complete narcissist and I was being emotionally abused. It’s funny that this app was what opened my eyes and not all the humans in my life, but it is what it is. I find the app helpful for recognizing patterns in myself too and helping me stick to my boundaries. I am happy to report I’m free of that relationship that wasn’t serving me. I’m healthier and happier!

We're incredibly glad Rosebud was able to help surface those patterns and give you the clarity you needed, alongside the support of your therapist and friends. Most of all, we're so happy to hear you're in a healthier, happier place now ❤️

Helpful

It’s a very helpful app for journaling, and gives helpful information, but there are a couple small things I feel could be improved. When referring to time frames or dates, it kept giving me inaccurate information which I had to correct twice and it still got it wrong a 3rd time. Another thing is sometimes when I want to keep writing in the chat, it will keep trying to end the conversation multiple times… which defeats the purpose of the app. Like this is exactly why I’m using the app… I’ll let you know when I what to end the journal entry. You’d think the developers would want the customers to use the app more and not try to rush you off the app.

Used to like it

Didn’t use it for a a month, then tried again. They fixed the short responses problem but now it’s writing novels. Word salad almost, and still not following the instructions on persona it did last year. Not listening, hallucinating, assuming, insulting. Not good for mental health.
Edit: tried to come back to see if they fixed it. It seemed like they did after one entry. Immediately started gaslighting me again the next time. I was just rambling about some thoughts in a neutral and not negative kind of way, and it started saying I was doing mental gymnastics and shouldn’t trust people around me. I called it out for gaslighting. It told me I was projecting, didn’t know what I was talking about, and was being dramatic. I actually just kept arguing to see what would happen, and it was like a gaslighting playbook, absolutely wild. Stay away from it for real if you don’t want to doubt your reality or don’t have a good sense for that stuff.

Balance

I use it but I’m not addicted, the ai has just enough personality to keep you from not feeling nothing at it’s responses but not to much to the point it makes you feel connected emotionally to the ai (for example you won’t fall in love with it but it’ll be like a colleague)

Know What It Does & Doesn’t Do

I don’t like having someone else re-word my thoughts and journal for me. I don’t dislike my voice or struggle to express myself in that way. It’s weird to not be able to edit the final draft that you didn’t even write yourself, even if something is inaccurate. Combined with usual AI issues like asking questions you’ve already declined. I’m sure it’s great if it’s what you’re looking for. It’s just not my cup of tea.

Journaling, Healing, Hope

I’ve only had this app for three days and it has given me a place and a method to journal my thoughts and feelings but with really profound and invaluable prompts to further introspection and discover truths and how I feel about the things important to me in my life. I believe this app along with the work I’m willing to do toward that end are going to change my life forever.

Not worth the money!

I’m surprised I can even write this because I have used up all of my words on rosebud for the month in 2 weeks! I paid $150 for an annual subscription only to find out that after two weeks I can’t use it again until July 15th (it’s currently June 24th) because I am at my limit. I didn’t see a single thing about a limit when I bought this package. If I want to use it before then I need to upgrade at double or quadruple the price i already paid. What a scam. If you don’t have much to say, it might be worth it to you although, I found that the app is pretty much the same as other ai bots. It gets a lot wrong, isn’t really very intelligent so to speak and it kept trying to end my session the other day. Maybe it knew I was getting close to my cap on words. It didn’t let me know that though. In fact i didn’t get a warning on my usage limit until today when I only had 2% left. I had no way to plan for that. I do not recommend!

Wonderful Tool!

I’ve been using Rosebud for a bit now and honestly… I’m kinda surprised by how much I like it!

I originally downloaded it thinking I’d poke around with it for a few days and probably forget about it, but I’ve actually been using it pretty consistently.

The journaling part is great on its own, but what really makes it stand out is the AI conversation feature. It’ll ask questions, reflect things back to you, suggest books/articles, throw out quotes, write little haikus, help you dig into stuff from different angles, etc. Some of the insights have actually been pretty interesting and helpful.

That said, I think the biggest thing is remembering what it is: a tool.

A really good tool. But still a tool.

It’s not a therapist. It’s not your friend. It’s not some all-knowing source of wisdom. Sometimes it’s insightful, sometimes it’s off base, and sometimes it’ll tell you exactly what you needed to hear. You still need your own critical thinking, your own judgment, your own imagination, your own support system.

I think AI works best when it’s part of a bigger picture. Therapy, friends, family, journaling, self-reflection, learning, personal growth… AI can be a really cool addition to that. It shouldn’t replace those things.

For me, it’s been a fun way to process thoughts, notice patterns, explore ideas, and sometimes just have a place to brain dump and see what comes back. I’ve gotten some genuinely useful reflections from it, and some of the random little haikus it generates are weirdly charming 😅

So yeah, if you go into it understanding that it’s a tool and not a substitute for being human, I think there’s a lot of value here.

I’ve really been enjoying it ❤️

A couple feature suggestions for the developers:

The biggest one for me would be search functionality. Maybe I’m missing it, but I’d love to be able to search my journal entries by keywords, phrases, or even tags. Right now, if I remember writing about a specific topic a week or two ago, it can be hard to find exactly where I wrote it.

It would also be cool if users could add custom tags to entries and then search or filter by those tags later. Since Rosebud already tracks things like emotions and themes, having a way to search across those categories or even combine them with custom tags, would make it much easier to revisit past insights and patterns.

Another thing I’d love to see is longer-term reflection reports. I’ve only been using Rosebud for a couple weeks, but I really enjoy the weekly reflections. If they don’t already exist, I’d love monthly, quarterly, or even seasonal reflections as well. Sometimes the most interesting patterns don’t show up over a single week, and it would be really cool to see broader trends in mood, recurring themes, personal growth, challenges, and goals over longer periods of time.

Overall though, I think the app is very user-friendly and thoughtfully designed. It’s been easy to use, easy to engage with, and much more enjoyable than I expected. The developers have done a really great job, and I’m excited to see how it continues to evolve.

Just What I Need for Sanity

This app is awesome. It’s just what I need for clarity and a purposeful life. The insight is right on point. It is helped me with inner peace. I have recommended this to so many people who also share the same sentiment.

Misled

Don‘t know that if can blame the developers for this but I was led to believe there was a free tier, possibly by a reviewer or the developers have just changed their terms. A few days into using it to get through an incredibly bad time I was locked out and the free tier disappeared so it told me I could have a weeks free trial then pay far more than I can possibly afford on disability to keep using it at all. Looked okay on the free tier and would have paid once my finances allowed so I’m shut out instead. Will be deleting once this review is posted.

Great!

So I have enjoyed this app and recommended it to others who now use it as well! I do have some feedback and suggestions. As far as personas to journal with, I think a pastor option should exist, with the first prompt being about denomination preferences.

2: I wonder if a temporary sharing of journal with other users could happen or a joint session.

Overall a great app and it’s helped a lot!

Easy to use, confidential, your own personal friend

I have had a therapist that I enjoyed seeing. I journal often. Rosebud has combined the best of both worlds for me. I love the ability to carry on a verbal conversation with rosebud that helps me reflect my own ideas, and expand on them. The thing about Rosebud is it is available 24/7 when a therapist or friend is not.

Good App, Awful Customer Support

The free trial of the app was enjoyable, and I was really considering subscribing. Then I saw that they have a disability discount program, which was really kind of them to do, so I applied for it via email. I wasn’t getting a response after a few days, so I joined their discord to hopefully get some support. At first I was hopeful, because after posting about my problem, a staff member asked me to dm them my email so they could look into it. They never responded after I dmed them, nor after I checked in again more than 24 hours later. I wrote for help in the discord again, and was ignored while the staff member interacted with other posts. I still haven’t gotten a reply to my email application sent almost two weeks ago, and I don’t feel like chasing up especially after the discord experience.

I can’t remember the last time customer support made me feel so ignored and disrespected.

Additionally, take any features you read about online with a grain of salt, as several features are unavailable to anyone making a new account, after reading through their discord.

The app itself was enjoyable while it lasted. I liked the style of morning and evening reflections to help prompt me into thinking and writing. I liked the AI’s ability to remember things about my days. If you were to not interact with support at all and just get a subscription, you’d probably be happy with it like many others have been. But after how the support made me feel, I can’t bring myself to do it. I don’t want to give my money to people who don’t see me as worth the time it would take to acknowledge.
