The sound is not working
The sound has been intermittent recently and now there is no sound at all.
Outdated for mobile
Difficult to do on a phone because the pics are small and you can’t zoom in.

I am working on learning french, which I have gotten very good at since starting. But I have been getting every pronunciation test 100%, so eventually I got curious and purposely said the words wrong. It still said 100% correct. So other than pronunciation and audio, great app.
Very frustrating, voice recognition problem still not fixed
I’ve been using this app for years. And for years, there have been issues with the voice recognition. I have to say everything perfectly multiple times before the app recognizes my voice. I get penalized for speaking perfectly because this app doesn’t recognize my voice. That is unfair. I never had that issue with the free owl app. Anything that I spent hundreds of dollars on should work better than a free app. Every response to a negative review says that they are working to fix the voice recognition problem. Really? Why does that take a decade to fix? And they tell you to delete the app and reinstall it. The reason they do that is so that the App Store deletes your 1-star review. Their other advice is to use headphones with a microphone, even though smartphones no longer have a headphone port. The other thing that is annoying is that this app wants me to memorize long sentences exactly after hearing them once. And if I don’t say it fast enough, I get marked wrong. I can’t even finish a sentence! You can’t say something else that is equally correct. The stories are also annoying. I’ll be recording myself and in the middle of the story, it stops recording and every word says “We didn’t hear you say that.” Duh: I didn’t get to that part of the story yet. It also marks me wrong on words I say perfectly, especially short words. Then I listen back and I hear myself say the exact word perfectly. All of this makes learning a new language difficult and unrewarding. You are better off just talking to native speakers for free and use the owl app (also free).

Tried it to learn Chinese from scratch. Would not recommend for beginners.
Lessons never explain what words or sentences mean. You just guess from pictures like you already know the language. That starts in the first lessons. No real teaching of basics.
Same method for other languages. I assume it’s fine if you already know some Chinese, but useless if you don’t, so I don’t see the point.
Too expensive for an app that doesn’t actually teach.
Speech recognition also glitches.
Again, Not for beginners. Skip it unless you already have the basics.

A Few Flaws
I’ve begun using the app to learn Japanese. I love the pictures that correspond with the words/phrases being said. It seems to make it easier to learn. I wish after you’ve guessed all words or sentences correctly that the app automatically showed what each meant without having to tap each element. I also like the order in which each lesson is being taught. At first, I was frustrated because the order almost made me think I clicked on the lessons out of order. But, it made sense once I realized I seemed to be picking things up faster than any French I learned in high school. The biggest issue I have with the app is one I didn’t anticipate and makes it harder to know how well or poorly I’m doing. The app’s access to the microphone seems to have a bug and/or be extremely sensitive. I saw a Reddit thread talking about it because very few reviews in this App Store mentioned it. When it comes to the pronunciation, the app shows the microphone has bad quality, but I’m wondering if it’s just picking up every single sound, including the sound of air around me. More than half the time, it’s saying I mispronounced a word. The other times I’ll get it almost perfect or it says my microphone has bad quality. The Reddit thread talking about this issue said to wait a full second until your iPhone microphone is activated (see the orange light) then speak. I tried that and it was almost perfect, until I got to the very last symbol pronunciation for one of the taught phrases, then it stopped working. So, there’s a bug with the microphones that needs to be fixed.

Poor voice recognition implementation renders app virtually useless with wireless headphones.
It is such a shame that the voice recognition flaws in this app haven’t been addressed. Voice recognition remains clunky and inconsistent with AirPods and other modern wireless headphones (By far the most popular earbuds for use with iOS devices) and it renders many lessons unable to be completed without disabling the microphone. The lessons are well constructed and informative otherwise but this fundamental bug remains a huge thorn in the side of the whole Rosetta Stone Experience. Come on Rosetta Stone, it’s not 2010 anymore, wireless headsets and earbuds are now the default, not the edge case, many devices no longer even support wired headsets and earbuds.

Lifetime membership not honored
I finally have time to learn a language and the product will not allow me into core module #2 in unit one. Why is it locked? Why no easy way to reach support? Very disappointed. I have passed and completed the lessons I was allowed to access but magically the rest of not available? Questionable.

Ive learnt the basics of Japanese without it being as difficult as other apps. I highly recommend. It’s also almost completely free unless you want an extended version which I don’t think is necessary unless you are really struggling to learn a language.
