Potential but give more options in settings?

Always nice to see more screenwriting apps available for iPad that are at least striving to be as feature capable as the ones that have been available on Mac/Windows forever. The iPad is a perfect device for writing on the go and yet has for a decade plus been lacking truly great screenwriting apps. A few are getting close in 2026 and Screenplay could be one of those. But I am struggling hard with how the carriage works. Having to use cmd+ enter feels extremely unintuitive. Ditto seeing a line of dialogue initially placed too far below the character heading in the element “window”, only to pop back into the right place after you do the whole cmd+enter thing. If there’s any consideration to creating an option in the settings to turn all that off and just provide a standard cursor with typical tab and enter behavior, I would greatly welcome it! I appreciate the thought process of trying to do something new and different, and will allow that if you’re typing on the screen this approach may work well. But more options for us Magic Keyboard warriors would be an excellent addition.

Response from developer

Hi ShwannyDH, Thank you for taking the time to leave such thoughtful and detailed feedback. I really appreciate it. I would actually love to connect with you and discuss your experience in a little more detail. We are continuously improving Screenplay, and whenever someone is struggling with any part of the core writing experience, I want to better understand what they are encountering and how they expect it to work. I also want to spend some time testing the workflow you described and looking into your suggestions before jumping to any conclusions about the best solution. If you’re willing, please reach out to us through Help & Support in Screenplay (support@blackmana.com). I’d be happy to connect with you directly and continue the conversation. Thank you again for giving Screenplay a try and for taking the time to share your feedback. -Screenplay Team

I Hate it.

It is complicated and I have not been able to write anything on it. I hate that I paid a yearly subscription, believing I can learn from tutorials.

Response from developer

Hi Theroxbaby1, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear Screenplay wasn’t the experience you were hoping for. Screenplay is designed as a professional screenplay writing environment focused on helping writers stay creative and organized while following industry-standard formatting. While the app includes Quick Start videos, built-in guides, and help tips throughout the interface, it is not intended to serve as a course that teaches the craft of screenwriting itself. We understand that can create a disconnect in expectations, especially for brand-new writers looking for step-by-step instruction on how to write a screenplay from scratch. Your feedback is valuable because it helps us better explain the app’s purpose and onboarding experience for future users. Thank you again for giving Screenplay a try, and we genuinely appreciate the support.

Screenplay is a game changer

Screenplay by Black Mana Studios is an absolute game-changer.

The platform is clean, intuitive, and clearly built by people who understand storytelling and the creative process. Everything flows smoothly, making it easy to focus on writing instead of fighting with the software. Whether you’re outlining ideas or refining a finished screenplay, the tools feel thoughtful and purposeful.

What really stands out is how professional yet approachable it feels — powerful features without being overwhelming. It’s clear a lot of care went into the design and functionality. If you’re serious about screenwriting and want a platform that supports creativity instead of slowing it down, Screenplay by Black Mana Studios is well worth your time.

Really Like

I love this app. I can go in at any time and add to my scripts. The only problem in BMS tries to access my folder. It offers to tap Allow, but there's not one for Don't Allow. If this continues, I will delete the app.

Concept

I like the overall concept of this app, my main issue with it is that it hasn't been updated since ios6, so it looks awful, has no ease of use like apps produced within the last year, and completely needs redone so that it doesn't look like I'm writing screenplays in 2012
