Screenplay is a game changer

Screenplay by Black Mana Studios is an absolute game-changer.

The platform is clean, intuitive, and clearly built by people who understand storytelling and the creative process. Everything flows smoothly, making it easy to focus on writing instead of fighting with the software. Whether you’re outlining ideas or refining a finished screenplay, the tools feel thoughtful and purposeful.

What really stands out is how professional yet approachable it feels — powerful features without being overwhelming. It’s clear a lot of care went into the design and functionality. If you’re serious about screenwriting and want a platform that supports creativity instead of slowing it down, Screenplay by Black Mana Studios is well worth your time.

Really Like

I love this app. I can go in at any time and add to my scripts. The only problem in BMS tries to access my folder. It offers to tap Allow, but there's not one for Don't Allow. If this continues, I will delete the app.

Concept

I like the overall concept of this app, my main issue with it is that it hasn't been updated since ios6, so it looks awful, has no ease of use like apps produced within the last year, and completely needs redone so that it doesn't look like I'm writing screenplays in 2012

Almost perfect..

The formatting is off when exported in .txt. If exported in .fdx, you must purchase an additional app to view it on iphone..

More exporting options of files

This app has a lot of potential but he needs more exporting options and more security on the things that is written

Love it!

This app is awesome! It took a little bit to get used to, but then it was great!

Interface

Considering that Final Draft used you as a disposable first draft for developing FD Writer for iPad and seems to show absolutely no interest in expanding into the iPhone, this is perhaps your opportunity to merge the capabilities of Screenplay for iPad and Screenplay for iPhone into the phone platform. It would be nice to be able to place shots in my work, notes and more cleanly deal with (O.S.) notation while working on the iPhone. Yes, I do know the workaround, but why is workaround even in our vocabulary, when we just want to write screenplays? However, what you do allow us to do you do well, hence four stars. However, if Final Draft does decide to move into the iPhone playground with something that works as well as FD Writer for iPad, you're gone!

Great- but please ad notes

I like it- I've been able to jump right in and create scenes, dialogue, characters, re-order the scenes. All works great. Not to bothered about the drop box issue, but wondering why if you can email out a script, why can't you import the same way?
Anyway, a feature I really want to see is Notes, ( you know if you want to remind yourself about a little thing like structure?) The notes should be under the script name.
And it would be awesome if they had that same functionality that your scene toggle does.( going in between having individual notes, or seeing them all together)
Thanks!

Best screen writing app of all I've tried

I have tried the trial version of Scripts Pro and it was not at all easy for me to use or understand. I purchased and tried the previous and new revised version of ScriptWrite. Both versions are unusible. The new version is really intuitive but it just doesn't work. Copy and paste didn't work for me, it was hard to delete things accurately and it crashed a lot on my iPhone 4. This app is great and works the way I would expect a script or screen writing app to work. I've only used it a few hours but it seems very stable. I have not tried to sync yet so I cannot comment on that. But when I tried syncing other script apps, they lost all format when viewed on my mac. This app promises to keep the format, even when exporting to simple text. At $5.00 this app might seem expensive in an ocean of .99 cent apps, but for the price of a burger and fries, I'd skip a lunch and buy this app!

Lot of 'wow' for the price.

This is a wonderful little app. It surprised me in the best way possible. It's integrated fully with Final Draft 8 and that is huge for me because I use FD8 all the time. FD7 users, you're out of luck. The import/export feature on this app works flawlessly with FD8. The app supports import/export with Celtx files as well however, I don't use Celtx enough to know how well that portion of the app works. This app is simple but isn't lacking in anything major. Users have access to all "elements" available in FD8. Layout is a breeze and overall this is very fun to use. The price tag is great as well. Great app, great price, works wonderfully. No reason not to get this. Unless you don't run FD8.

A Nice Clean Script App!

So far I've been using this to edit scripts I've imported from Final Draft and it's worked great. It's not fancy but, more importantly, it's very clean and well organized. I find it laughable that the person who complains that the app won't support the Final Draft 7 format won't pony up the rubles for the FD8 upgrade? Are you just planning on never upgrading while FD keeps forging ahead? FD8 is far superior and if you plan on working seriously, you ought to invest the whopping $99 for the upgrade. No charge for this advice either! The reason I mention that is because it's sort of unfair to bash an app for those reasons, especially when it's actually a very good one. Nothing's perfect. Just deal with it and upgrade.

I had contacted them a few weeks ago and said they are planning an iPad version. Not sure when but I hope that's still the case. I recommend this app, highly!

Superb...

I'll admit, I was skeptical. I've been spoiled by the sexy (and *cough* much more expensive, albeit quite feature-rich) interface of Montage on OS X, & I wasn't sure how the screenwriting experience could be distilled down to my phone. Well, I've tasted the future - & now I have no excuses not to write. Plain & simple.

It feels sleek & efficient, & intuitive. I love how I can rearrange scenes just by dragging my finger. Brilliant.

Because I'm going to write a short this year with "Screenplay" (& possibly begin a feature-length on this program,) I want this program to shine & do well for the responsive developer.

SUGGESTIONS FOR "SCREENPLAY"
===
Page count!*
•••••
GPS tagging where scenes were added*
•••••
Ability to change title of scene (I.e. give it a nickname to help with outlining based on subject of each scene) without it altering the actual slugline*
•••••
Auto-export when the program auto-saves*
•••••
Standard behavior when you hit "return", it automatically jogs to next logical entry - OR - instead of having those buttons at the bottom the entire time, those selections magically appear when you hold your finger to the screen for a second or more*

Great job - seriously - fantastic value for the price. If you're a Screenwriter, you need this.

Seriously?

There's a REALLY BAD bug in the programing. For some reason, THREE ENTIRE SCENES were jumbled when I opened them up mere minutes after last working on them. And when I tried to fix the text, the lines wouldn't appear where I had placed them. Oh, they'd appear in the scene. Just like ten lines down. So far down, in fact, that they wouldn't even be in the section the screen was on. I tried essentially every option I could think off to fix the problem (restarting the program, turning off the phone, waiting a day and going back, etc.) and still the pages were glitched.

Look, I know you guys are really trying and, honestly, I love how streamed lined this program is. But, since I CAN NO LONGER USE THE APP for fear of having all my hard work jumbled into format soup, I must retract my 5 star rating and leave you with this (technically required by the app store) rating of 1.

= YUM! (revision)

**dropped my review to 4 stars after a bit more extensive use. First, I just realized there's no page count feature or I'm just not seeing it. Would be a very hand addition. Second, Im liking the work flow set up less and less as my writing becomes more fluid. Having to go through at least 1-2 screen changes as you change elements is becoming very taxing, especially after you pick your character and then have to pick dialogue. After picking your character it should automatically go to dialogue (or optional parenthetical ). Also when typing, if u accidentally hit the RETURN key you're annoyingly sent back to the previous screen and then it's 2 more steps just to get back to the editing you were just working on. I do think, however, this type of workflow would be excellent as an EDITING/REVISION mode. I've been trying out Scriptwrite and their writing workflow is more condusive to initial drafts and fluid writers. Stuff to consider.

*would like the TRANSITION button moved toward the end over by NEW SCENE. Would like CHARACTER to be right next to DIALOGUE and then PARENTHETICAL. seems more logical that way.

Love this app! Glad someone finally made it! Thank you!

Much improved and very stable

A vast improvement over the last version as now the app is a highly functional and reliable writing tool. The stability and import features make it stand out amongst it's limited competition. That being said there is still something problematic about selecting each element before actually writing something, it definitely has a negative impact on the creative flow. There are also still a few wrinkles that need to be ironed out like Mac support and perhaps the introduction of page numbers( as I'm sure many screenwriters subconsicously set their goals based on page numbers). But other than that this is a quality application that I highly recommend.

The update make this an awesome app

Seeing that most of my script ideas come to me when I'm nowhere near my computer, this app seems like a God send. Its great that I can export it for use in Celtx since I use that program a lot. It has a nice simple interface and makes typing in standard script format while on the go a lot easier.

The update makes this app the most useful one on my phone. Adding, deleting, and editing different elements to the script is a breeze with the updated button menu. It's also great to see that the magnifying glass was added to this version.

Exporting and importing your scripts are quick and painless. Sign up for the online storage or import from your own URL. I've imported scripts I've written in Celtx and it looks exactly the same. My only issue with this process is you have to log back in to the online storage if you exit the app. It would be nice to have it log me in automatically when I start the app back up.

This is a great app and you won't go wrong with this purchase. It's a absolute must have for any filmmaker. At this price it blows away most destop programs.

Works pretty well with iphone 3GS

Review virgin here. First off, this app does not crash with the 3GS (at least not for me), just like advertised. The app is very well done in terms of offering major features that make script writing applications time-savers (character recognition, formatting, scene creation, etc). However, all of the major screenwriting features that ought to save time are severely curtailed by the lack of the simplest features that should be included in every app (especially a writing app) . For example, there is NO: copy and paste, maginfier (which makes it really hard to correctly place the cursor anywhere), or predictive text. Without these basic features the app is really more of an hindrance for creative writing than a facilitator. Hopefully the developers are also working on these issues on top of the old iphone crashes.

Almost Wonderful

This application would be my favorite iPhone Appilcation if it made use of the typing features of the iPhone OS. The worst is that actually typing your screenplay into the phone is a chore. Mistyping is not supported, you can't go back and fix mistakes with the magnifier and it's not intuitive. I would urge buyers to wait for an upgrade as the app is a great idea but doesn't allow you to quickly type in your thoughts and thus is more work than creatively fun. Also, it needs to have a setting where you can specify which paragraph element automatic follows the next one. For example, if you enter a character dialouge heading and select it, the cursor should advance automatically to dialouge paragraph margins. Great idea, poorly thought out application.

A decent start

It's got problems, yes. I see a lot of crash reports, but knock on wood I've yet to be victimized by this. It's an awkward app to say the least: there's no spell correct or copy/paste, no place to jot notes or ideas (there are other cool apps for that anyway). But the IDEA is right and with a little polish this could very well and truly be a writer's dream. Despite its flaws, I'm on thus thing nearly every day and have even found myself working on one script in this app in entirety. My biggest critique is that the export to fdr doesn't work as well as advertised and that may be a problem. Worst case scenario I rewrite the whole thing in fdr and do my edits during the long-hand transfer. So I can live with that. But the fact that I can work a script anywhere and anytime and not have to worry about format or carrying my laptop around -- it's epic and it is the app I definitively use the most. I read they're working on some upgrades and I'm stoked. But keep in mind: if you're a screenwriter and you're looking for a script app for your godPhone, this is really you're only choice. So quit you're complaining and make due til something better comes along. It really is better than nothing.

Yes! Finally!

Finally an app for us screenwriters! I love the user interface however, it needs some work. It did crash on my while composing my material. When I opened it back up my data was lost from where I didn't save it.
You need an AUTOSAVE feature for whenever those unexpected crashes happen, we can open the app back up and continue from where we left off. I did notice whenever you hit the home key it saves it, that's good for toggling between apps. I can't stress enough about the autosave feature. I'm sure more updates will come to fix the bugs. Overall I think the price is worth it and I am thankful to have a screenwriting app. It has definitely won a spot on my phone! 
