Mondays Copycat needs work

I’ve used a LOT of apps, and many like this style. I love the multiple views it can present, but the most basic of functions is either missing or VERY not intuitive. For example, I selected “Sales Forecast” to start with. There’s the option for 0-30 days, 30-90 days, and 90+ days. I wanted to make it by MONTH, to match the way my company wants a forecast. But, there’s no way to modify those defaults, so your dropdown will ALWAYS be those three until you manually write over the top of them. I tried every conceivable option, right-click, change tabs, file/edit/view menus, and NOTHING gave me the ability to change these defaults. Mind-blowing ththat using an Excel Sheet self-created would be easier to use for Data Validation…

RaeotRae, Thank you for your review. Bear in mind the Sales Forecast template is just an example. It can be easily customized using the properties sheet. Simply click on a cell in the column you want to customize and click the 'I' in the toolbar (top right) to reveal the properties sheet. All sorts of column settings can be changed including drop down menu values. There are videos in the help menu that explain all this, although the layout of the properties sheet has changed in 5.0 but you should still be able to follow along. Alternatively, please contact us at support@sheetplanner.com and we will walk you through it step by step. Regards Peter

An easy-to-use interface hides a powerful program

This program is ridiculously easy to use for project management and associated information storage. It is one of a small number of programs with the combination of outliner and columns, with the ability to easily filter and hoist items for focused study. Programs with similar approaches (e.g., OmniOutliner, InfoQube) while also good, seem to be biased toward information first and time/project management secondarily (I’ll still keep Ecco in its own special place). SheetPlanner takes the opposite approach and places project management first. I am not aware of other apps that make it so simple and intuitive to generate simultaneous outline, calendar, Gantt, and/or Kanban views (with swimlanes) with basically no learning time investment on the part of the user. If you think this might fit into your workflow, I would recommend you look into this. For me, it is the type of program that I have begun to think of first when I have a number of things or obligations to juggle or put into some semblance of order. As a final note, the developer in my experience is very responsive to email should any issues arise. I’m very happy with this program, happy to not have yet another subscription, and I look forward to its continued development.

Good App but some issues

The print feature is useless. It will preview and size perfectly but something is lost in translation -- have not successfully printed yet. Just blank pages. After leave print the UI is a little messed up with the check boxes cut off at the top -- have to restart the program to make it look good again. Hope the owner will help with this.

July4man, Version 3.03 is now released which amongst other things fixes printing under Ventura. Please contact us at support@sheetplanner.com if you have any questions.

On the right track, has a way to go

I really like using this app, but there are a couple frustratioins that at times make it almost unusuable. The easier problem is it crashes every other time I make changes in Preferences. The more frustrating problem is that when copying from one sheet to another things paste in reverse order and not everything is pasted into the new sheet.

Sam, we have addressed the issues you describe in 3.01 which is available for download on the Mac App Store. Thank you from the team at SheetPlanner Software.

THE Mac Project Software

SheetPlanner is perfect. It’s robust, with all the features you need, but so intuitive and with such a clean interface, you’ll be able to employ it “right out of the box”. I’ve used planning software that required crawling through tons of documentation before you could start using it. SheetPlanner has simple entry, noting, tagging, etc.; plus quick switch (or side-by-side) for sheet, Gantt, and month and year calendar views.
Their support is responsive and you can use this for proper projects as well as RACI, to-do lists, and other applications. This software (at a very reasonable, one-time cost) is helping me with a cohesive and trackable PLAN during a challenging 2022.

Great App w/ Lots of Potential

Hello,
I purchased SheetPlanner hoping to organize my business materials and EWO's. It's a nice app but after using it for a few weeks, I found it to be very "glitchy".
Be sure to double check everything. It drop #'s after the decimal when copying and pasting columns. You can't input a decimal before a zero. you have to type the whole number and then go back and place the decimal before the zero.
after saving to your desktop or a folder, when you re-open it, you loose changes made to font colors.
Also, when you re-open it opens to an untitled copy instead of the original.
Basically, these glitches create additional work and time to your schedule.
I like SheetPlanner. It has lots of potential. They just need to "iron" some things out in the future releases.
Support is very expedient. I've contacted suppot a few times and Peter was very quick to respond with help.

Good for Basic Overview

I cut my teeth on the earliest PC project management software (1984 onwards). I've owned most every major app out there for consulting and business development work. Sheetplanner actually offers the main tools I find useful at a good price and it's fairly easy to figure out. These days I write books so that's what I'm using SP for. It's perfect for my basic scheduling and tracking needs. My main problem though is that a good amount of the text formatting operations don't work (unless there's a trick or something I don't know). I'm sure I'll find more issues, but the formatting one is pretty buggy. Commands don't always take; alignment can't be controlled (although there are commands...they don't work, at least for me), and there really needs to be separate level controls for formatting in general. Still, I'm sold and will use this tool happily. The useful stuff is there and that's my main concern.

Jango, thanks for the review. Can you please contact us at support@sheetplanner.com and we will try to address your issues directly. Please note there are specific format settings for each level of the outline. Thanks from the team at SheetPlanner Software.

I have been looking for an app like this for a LONG time!

I only downloaded SheetPlanner yesterday, but I love it so far! I have been looking for a suitable replacement for IN CONTROL by Attain (released in 1993), since the early 2000's and I think I might have finally found it. I still use IN CONTROL in emulation, because no project management outliner has come close. The controls, features, and feel of the software are spot on! Are there any plans for an iPad version? That would pretty much complete my wish list.

Best project management software and powerful

This app is one of the hidden gems of the Mac app store. A must-have for anyone tackling major projects.
I use SheetPlanner for to-do lists as well more complex project management with full Gannt charts. It’s agile and flexible. I love the ability to create custom columns with custom drop-down lists, move the columns around, reorganize rows by dragging and the ability to create custom filters to focus on what’s important at the time. The flexibility is great.
It's packed with all the stuff you need and wished you always had. I highly recommend it to all Mac OSx users. 5 Stars!!!

Easy To Use - Great Alt to MS Project

Update: Since the update on Jan 1, the main issue that I had with this software (printing), has been addressed and works perfect. Really great alternative to MS Project, if you're looking for something dedicated to just schedules. Super easy, great options, love it... Nice work!!

Response from developer

Hi Formatt, Thanks for updating your review and giving us 5 stars to reflect the changes in 2.0. Great to hear you are happy with the update. Thanks from the team at SheetPlanner Software!

Fills several needs, nicely!

Sheetplanner is an easy to use utility for mapping out projects as well as logging actual completion dates for tasks.

Task hierarchy is supported.

It will also work well as an outlining tool. The task lines can be used as hierarchical topics, columns for project planning can be hidden, and a notes field can appear inline or can be opened in a separate tab.

Outlines also get the added benefit of yielding a timeline.

When an outline is complete, it can be exported to OPML and then converted with the free Pandoc utility to RTF or DOCX format, yielding a document with topic headings using proper styles - the navigator pane of Nisus or Word will have the topic titles, and the notes will be inline in the document.

I can export a project or an outline with start and finish dates to a CSV file, that will then import into Aeon Timeline. If the Sheetplanner file has a column for assignee, Aeon Timeline can pick that up as a participant so Aeon's grid view is already populated.

For those who value data safety, my informal peek into a Sheetplanner package reveals good old JSON. That's a big plus for me, because proprietary data formats are silly things.

If I lost the Sheetplanner app, I would be very sad, but I wouldn't lose my data. I can get my hands on it without the app - and that's a great thing!

Flexible, powerful, and easy to use!

I’m so glad I found SheetPlanner! It provides a very useful overview of my projects and lets me see them as both an outline and a timeline in a way that is flexible, powerful, and easy to use.

While I’ve used a to-do manager for years, until now I hadn’t found a project management system that was easy enough to use regularly. While I’m continuing to use a task manager, I use SheetPlanner all the time to review my overall workflow and make sure that I’m staying on top of all my projects. As other reviewers have noted, SheetPlanner is flexible and much easier to use than full-blown project managers while still having all the features I need.

In addition, the developer is super responsive—I’ve already emailed back and forth with him a couple of times about upcoming features.

EditorOwl, Thanks for your great review and 5 stars. Your going to love SheetPlanner 1.2! Thanks from the team at SheetPlanner Software.

Very useful, accessible and flexible

I like SheetPlanner a lot: it's flexible, with just the amount of granularity I need, and intuitive to use. I've found the interface, as well as finding how-to answers, very accessible. One's work and flow takes precedence, rather than the program. I've imported and exported (CSV) successfully. The developer has been very responsive and has answered my questions very quickly and helpfully.

Excellent App

Mac is such a powerful platform it deserves powerful software. This app is one of the hidden gems of the Mac app store. A must-have for anyone tackling major projects. Worth the price, hopefully they add more collabaration features and an iPhone/iPad app soon.

Phenomenal app, great support

I've loved using SheetPlanner to manage my projects. Last night, I filed a support inquiry regarding whether we'll get a "Today" indicator in the timeline view, and one of the developers emailed me back this morning, letting me know that the 1.1 update will be out in 3 weeks and it includes this feature! I can't wait to see what else the SheetPlanner team comes up with – it's a near-perfect app.

FINALLY!

I have been looking for an app like SheetPlanner for a LONG time.

I need lightweight Project Management functional that is EASY to use WITH the ability to track other data elements, cleanly.

That's why I LOVE this application; with the custom column features, users can track all the additional data they need. The filters feature is fantastic as I can get the snapshot I need at a moments notice. Using the calendar and Timeline views allow me to track my projects visually in an integrated way.

GET THIS APP - it's worth it!

I am hooked on it and it's just 1.0! I can't wait to see the new features they release. This will be a productivity enabler and disruptor to disorganization.

Flexible and agile project management and lists

SheetPlanner has a ton of the features I’ve been looking for in a project management app. without getting forced in to strict templates. Not all projects operate the same. SheetPlanner has the tools I need when I need them and the ability to hide the rest when I don’t. Customer support has been awesome and quick to respond.

My dream Ecco Pro replacement

After searching for years for a replacement for Ecco Pro my dreams have been answered. While still not having all the functionality of Ecco it has the core outline/columns concept. Goodbye Omnifocus, Things and all the rest! Since this is just v1 I am hopeful that there will be significant function additions in future releases - reporting, collaboration, etc. Keep up the great work!

Extremely powerful, yet easy to use

It's not every day you stumble upon a program that has this much power yet at the same time, keeps the basics extremely simple to use. I've used dozens of different methods and apps over the years to manage lists, projects, and timelines. Typically, when a program is robust, it lacks in the ability to provide simple data entry. Or, it's just the opposite where an application is easy to use but has no advanced features when you need them. SheetPlanner solves that problem by being both extremely easy to perform data entry while at the same time, provides the depth necessary to do advanced planning. In the software world, this is one of the toughest nuts to crack, but they've done it here!!! What I love the most is the flexibility to include start and finish dates (or not). Sometimes you want a simple list to manage company goals or daily tasks. At other times it calls for a robust project management system and SheetPlanner is there for you as well! Do yourself a favor and read down the list of features here. It's packed with all the stuff you need and wished you always had. The free trial offered with this is a no-brainer, so you have nothing to lose on this one and so much to gain! 5 Stars!!!

Mac Project Planner for the rest of us

Unless you have been raised on Microsoft Project, a project planning app is going to give you a huge learning curve with many of the features being overkill for all but the most dedicated user. Omniplan and Concept Draw are more approachable than MS Project, but the learning curve is still there. Sheetplanner allows you to begin with a spreadsheet/outliner interface to get started. You can then start adding complexity as you need or want it. I'm an administrator in higher education, and have little need for many of the features in a full-blown project management app. As a result, I went without for a decade. Sheetplanner is a perfect mix of ease of use and functionality that lets you get started at the ground floor, and then lets you add features as you see fit. I would encourage anyone who wants to use project management but cannot spare a load of learning how to navigate and use a monster project manager. It likely has more than enough features for your project.
