About

Sideline is a scoreboard for the game actually in front of you - a rec game on a booked court, or a fixture being officiated properly. It asks which one before you start, and then gets out of the way. CASUAL OR COMPETITIVE Casual play is one game, one clock counting up, and nothing else: no halves, no set counter, no buzzer. Sides get repicked, people wander off, and nothing is counting towards anything. Turn on Competitive and the sport's real rules arrive. Volleyball is best of five with the fifth set played to 15. Badminton is best of three to 21, win by two, stopping at 30. Soccer has halves that end on 45:00 and stay there until you signal added time. Basketball has quarters counting down to the buzzer, and goes to overtime rather than pretending a tie is a result. HOW LONG, AND HOW MANY PARTS Play it straight through, in halves, or in quarters - and for as long as the court is booked for, not for as long as the rulebook says. Pick from the usual lengths or type in your own. A MATCH LOG, NOT JUST A SCORE Write down what happened while it is happening. Every note keeps the score, the period and the clock at the moment you wrote it, so "21-19, Set 2, 14:20 - review whether the block was touched" is still legible after the match, when it matters. YOUR MATCHES ARE KEPT Games are saved as they are played - not when they end - so a match survives the phone being pocketed, locked, or closed mid-game. History keeps the date, the sport, the teams, the scoreline set by set, how long it ran and every note. Send one to the group chat as plain text, or delete it. BUILT TO BE READ ACROSS A PITCH Big landscape scores, high contrast, team panels you tap anywhere to score. Rename the teams and pick each side's colour. A REAL WHISTLE Hold the whistle button to blow for as long as you need, so a full-time short-short-long sounds right. It works with the ringer switch off, because that is where phones live courtside. NOTHING IS COLLECTED No accounts, no sign-up, no analytics, no tracking, and no network access at all. Your matches are on your phone and nowhere else, and the only thing that ever leaves is a summary you choose to send.
