Awful
Despite being 19, the app flags my date of birth as UNDER 18. (2005) absolutely terrible design as I can’t set up an account because of that issue.
Terrible App
The web versions, for no good reason, is only for applicants with kanji in their legal name.
This version works just fine, and can accept MyNumber.
For some reason, the English version is confined to this useless app which can’t properly use the cameras on any iPhone model made in the past 2 and a half years, and thus can’t work. It also can’t accept a simple photo upload from the good camera app (the free one that comes with the phone and actually works) for no good reason, and also doesn’t support manually filling things in.
Sony should be ashamed to have this stay so low functioning for this long. It’s been broken forever, it seems.
Also just let folks who can read Japanese fill out the web form regardless of whether they’re foreign or not. What year is it?!

Can’t even get past step 1
The function to scan your residents card isn’t working on two phones that I’ve tried it with. On my iPhone 14 pro the camera defaults to wide angle which doesn’t allow you to take a close enough picture before it gets blurry. Rubbish
Terrible
App keeps telling me my card is expired when it isn’t. Also refuses to scan my gender from the zairyu card although the scan is perfectly clear. Since it doesn’t scan the gender I can’t proceed with the application.
Worked fine for me
Unlike at least one other previous reviewer, this worked totally fine for me. Very easy to use.
