Sound meter

I bought this app and paid for it. The data is not possible to save. The Dropbox link goes nowhere and cannot be changed. A picture is not very useful. I am told I have to pay for advanced features. What are they? Why am I not asked in advance? I fear that I will pay twice for the same thing.

Amazing

I’m a full time sound engineer. Yes I have calibrated RTA mics and room measurement software, but I’ve compared this app side by side with those tools and this is perfectly usable and more than accurate enough for most situations.

Indispensable

Music

Working in bars and loud music I found this app invaluable.

It’s great, just mic gain auto query!

It’s good, no issues. I have a question i think i’m going to answer! With the microphone gain set permanently to ‘auto’ ( i cannot move the slider!), is it impossible to stop this because it uses the inbuilt iphone mic? Obvs, if the mic gain is auto-changing, i cannot realistically measure dB. I had a noisy fan, i cleared debris from the grille…now it measures as louder in dB! It’s much quieter to my ears than it was. I look back at the screenshots, then find i cannot move the mic gain from automatic! Now, some audio apps grab control of auto mic and circumvent it, do can noise meter be made to do this? Thanks anyway.

Response from developer

Thanks for feedback and using this App. "AUTO" is misleading indeed. When you cannot switch, it means that the built-in hardware handles everything and the Application does not have access to manual setting. Which is great because carefully tuned by Apple in order to make it transparent for user (if it changes gain, audio data is compensated accordingly). When inserting external microphone, you may have access to manual gain. A calibration is needed in that case. At least, it was like this for a while. I will update all Apps soon and see if something changed since. For your measurements, I assume you measured with A-weighting at a distance of al least 1 meter. Being too close would make measurement more difficult to achieve good results.

Very Good

I use this many year no problem. I like it.

Response from developer

Thanks for using this App and for feedback. Highly appreciated.

Great product

I’ve used this a great deal over the years for monitoring office machinery noise levels and taking appropriate action to ensure comfort for staff. I’d be stuck without such a tool.

Response from developer

Thanks for using this App and for feedback. Highly appreciated.

Multifunctional sound app

I am NOT an expert in sound measurement, but I love this app for demonstrating to people who are skeptical of how loud our environments often are. The FFT feature is great for identifying noise sources as well. Lots of folks I’ve shown it to hav downloaded it themselves as well.

Response from developer

Thanks for using this App and for feedback. Highly appreciated.

Excellent low cost sound meter

Very happy with performance of app! Using to balance sound levels between Music Keyboard and Simply Piano online lessons. But main objective is keeping listening volume at safe levels, preserving my hearing and preventing worsening tinnitus.

The Best

I am very careful with my hearing in loud environments. This App is excellent for reading loudness levels throughout my day. I sometimes work around an airport. I always protect my ears. It's nice to know what these loud situations could be doing to my hearing at the convenience of my smartphone.

Update: I have had this App for over 8 years and still love it. The developer has maintained it all this time. So extremely happy for this.
I used it recently when I was at a Wedding Reception. They seated us next to the speaker. I thought I was going to die. It read 96-97 db’s. I showed the people at my table how loud it was. They were surprised. And also showed them this can cause hearing damage if we are to sit here the whole night.
Anyway, got out of that situation before the exposure limit. So useful. Thanks again!

Very limited features. No in app support

Wouldnt download. I purchased app for $5 usd like a dummy. There’s no in app support. The data you can export is extremely limited csv. Other apps allow you to video record w/audio db levels. Even though I paid for the professional version of this app it will not unlock the feature. It’s a scam. Cant even contact developer in app.

You can request for a refund. There a plenty of means for contacting developer: in info page, this is called ‘contact’. The App does exactly what it claims, no more, no less. Since it does not claim to export videos, it does not export videos.

😃 danke!

Response from developer

Excellent Sound Level Meter

The app is well designed and actually looks like a real sound level meter. The app works very well and is also accurate. I have tried all of the sound level meters for iOS, and this one is far superior. Congratulations to the developers. Great work!

Response from developer

Thanks for feedback !

Excellent

This is an excellent app. I use it often to check listening levels during music production. I have checked its readings against a dedicated sound level device and they concur. Save your hearing and take it to any concert or event and walk out if it shows 85+dB(A)!

Thanks for feedback

Fabulous little app

This little app has been incredibly useful for our research and development, tracking sources of noise, and comparing noise measurements from different machines. The FFT is good, really handy for identifying noise sources. No thank you very much for all the work in preparing this app. It’s great.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback

Fantastic, Reliable, Useful

I use this app several times a year and have used it for many years. It is a fantastic reliable and useful app. I highly recommend it.

It’s very helpful when measuring speakers, general levels of noise if I’m in an audience, and I even use it with over the ear headphones (I just get the mic-end of the phone as close I can where my ears would reside within the earpiece to get a general idea so I protect my ears).

If you don’t have a dedicated spl meter (or don’t carry one around with you) I recommend you get this. You won’t be disappointed. 🙂

Mitch of the East

Great App! Very easy to use and I trust it to be accurate based on readings of known levels like a hammer on a nail, conversation, quiet room. Could be saving my hearing in the long run.

Thanks for feedback.

Was the best…

…until landscape mode got stuck. Now unusable. No way to change settings.

Response from developer

Nothing changed! Can you check this two settings ?: _ in Conf tab you have "Disable landscape mode": what setting ? _ in iPhone pop-up menu "from bottom" you have a rotation lock option (along with plane mode, lamp, ...): a key lock icon
