Capture stunning long-exposure night sky photos with advanced manual controls and frame stacking. This app offers precise focus on starlight, a meteor detector, and celestial aiming overlays for astrophotography on your phone.
What's New in Starlapse
1.0.1
September 14, 2026
Fixes a crash on launch. On iPhone 15 and iPhone 17 the app closed as soon as camera access was allowed. Starlapse now asks each camera what it actually supports instead of assuming, and moves to the next best option when the answer is no. It also applies shutter and frame rate in the order the hardware requires, which is what the second crash turned out to be. Long nights are steadier too: a time-lapse or an event clip no longer stalls if the video encoder refuses a frame. Thank you to the reviewer who described the crash clearly enough to find it.

FAQ
What makes Starlapse unique for night sky photography?
Starlapse offers advanced manual camera controls that remain locked, preventing common issues like exposure creep or autofocus hunting. It also utilizes frame stacking to achieve exposures longer than what the hardware alone can manage, resulting in significantly reduced noise and more detailed images.
How does Starlapse achieve focus on starlight?
Starlapse employs a unique autofocus method that steps the lens across its range and measures star size at each position, settling on the smallest. This process, similar to how observatories focus, takes about a minute and ensures sharp star points, which is crucial for astrophotography.
Can Starlapse capture both pinpoint stars and star trails?
Yes, Starlapse allows you to develop your stacked images in two ways: 'pinpoint stars,' where frames are aligned on stars to keep them as points, and 'star trails,' which render the sky's rotation as arcs while keeping the ground sharp.
Does Starlapse have a meteor detector?
Yes, Starlapse includes a meteor detector that actively watches the sky. When it detects a meteor crossing, it automatically saves a short clip of the event, making it easier to capture fleeting celestial phenomena.
What kind of celestial information does Starlapse provide?
Starlapse offers an aiming overlay that shows the positions of planets, bright stars, meteor radiants, and the Moon. It calculates the optimal aiming point for meteors, considering your location and time, and helps you avoid the Moon for better visibility.
How does Starlapse handle image development after capture?
The stacked image data is kept as accumulated light, allowing you to develop it afterwards. You can adjust curves (stretch, black point, exposure, saturation) to re-develop the image from the original data, similar to the flexibility provided by RAW files.
Is Starlapse available on Android devices?
Based on the provided data, Starlapse is currently only supported on iPhone devices. There is no information indicating Android compatibility at this time.
How often is Starlapse updated?
Starlapse was last updated on September 14, 2026, with version 1.0.1. This indicates a recent update, suggesting ongoing development and support for the application.
