Great app which helps motivate and helps give you some money on the side

Phenomenal app with a clean, easy to use UI. Have been using for a month now and have joined three challenges and all have been fun and rewarding. They force me to change my daily habits and be a bit more intentional with my movements throughout the day to stay more active and hit my step goals. I will say it's not easy! Plenty of days where I have had to get on the treadmill at night scrambling trying to make my goal.

The only complaint is that at times, it does take a while for the challenge to settle and pay out. My first challenge took two days and I was not able to join any others while that occurred. The current challenge I just finished is also going through the same issue and I am waiting as we speak for it to get resolved and get paid. Other than that, no complains and I can't wait to see the future for the app especially as it becomes more and more popular and more people sign up to the challenges!

Fraudulent app and/or bugged

EDIT:
Steppa fixed the missing reward money. I still think the app is a bit sketchy- 1. From last I’ve checked, they aren’t transparent about what % or how much money the dev takes as a cure for each event $ pool.

2. I haven’t checked but it would show incorrect numbers all throughout the app like I mentioned in original review

3. Even when all goes well, based on the fact that the dev takes a cut, and the event organizer takes a cut, your winnings are so small in 90% of cases that it’s not worth it ( you win an event that you paid $25 to get in, and you maybe get back $27, a $2 gain for a week of walking. Or even worse because of the cuts from dev and event creator, you pay $25, win, but only get $23 back, you win and still lose money!)

Neat app idea yes, poor execution. A DeFi app without a cut going to dev or event creator would be a step in the right direction.

—————————
I tried my first challenge and completed it successfully (10k+ steps for 7 days) but even with the app showing I successfully completed every day with over 10k steps and the green success color, it shows failed for the whole 7 day event and did not pay me. In fact I completely lost the money that I put in to start the challenge

I’ll update this review if fixed but either way this app is still sketchy

Additionally the UI is bugged or shows falsified daily information for each day of the challenge- the % of how many people are behind changes in a way that does not reflect what is possible (IE if 80% of people are still in half way through the challenge, it’s impossible that 85% of people could still be in the running the following day)

Lastly, when you look at the payout history of any user and the challenge info, the math makes no sense and is irregular. There should be an exact formula for how much winners are payed based on the total $ pool size, number of winners and losers, but the data does not make any reasonable sense

Hey Shadowfury957, we are truly sorry this was your experience and we want you to know we took care of it. The issue you experienced was a bug on our end that incorrectly marked your challenge as failed even though you completed every single day. We identified it, credited your account with what you earned, and have been working to make sure it does not happen again. On the payout display and leaderboard data, those are also known issues we have fixed since this review was written. We appreciate the detailed feedback and hope you will give us another shot.

Great steps, weak payouts

If you’re doing this for fitness, that’s good because it’ll help you walk more. But if you’re looking to turn fitness into dollars, this is a waste of your time.

This app will definitely have you walking more than you normally would due to the step tracking and money you have to put down that you don’t want to lose. But your payout is usually your buy-in: you put $10 down, a bunch of people lose, but you still only “win” $10. That’s because Steppa pulls fees out of the prize money and that usually leaves you with only your initial buy-in as the prize. The only people making money off this is Steppa.

Response from developer

Hi Rickitysplits, we really appreciate the honest feedback and are glad Steppa has been helping you walk more! You raise a fair point about payouts and we want to share some exciting news: we are moving to a 0% fee structure, meaning we will no longer take any fees from the total entry fees collected. That means every dollar contributed goes directly back to the people who complete their challenges. We hear you and we are working hard to make sure the rewards feel as rewarding as the effort you put in. Stay tuned and thank you for sticking with us!

Can’t cash out

You can’t cash out unless you have a USA account.

Response from developer

Hi Jjlijdnd, great news! International payouts are now available via PayPal. You can request your withdrawal directly in the Wallet tab. We hope this gets you sorted and back to stepping!

$30 wins $32 even when 100 people of 470 fail!

The fees on this platform are PATHETIC! Until they lower the fees and increase disclosures on the company’s greedy profit keeping, I’ll “keep” the review lower. If the platform fee was 5% or just even 7.5, I would have won $5 at least, imagine if I could do that with $200 bets. But you CANT. Because everyone knows how greedy the platform needs to “keep running”. Unless they lower fees once 100k plus people start playing and the profit keeping goes down, I will keep 1 star review to show my displeasure that I can’t put $200 on myself to walk 10k steps to day just to 99 out of 100 times have the reward lower than $200 due to fees rather than guarenteeez.

Transparency on payouts

This is a great app for a little extra motivation to complete your daily steps. I just wish they were transparent with the percentage that the app takes from each pool. When over 100 people get eliminated from a challenge with only 550 in the challenge, and everyone only gets their buy in back. I understand the app needs to make a profit to continue improving the app, I just ask for a little more transparency.

Response from developer

Hi Fisbfskj, thank you for the kind words and the thoughtful feedback! You are absolutely right that transparency matters and we hear you loud and clear. We have two exciting updates to share: first, we are moving to a 0% fee structure, meaning all total entry fees go directly back to the people who complete their challenges. Second, we are actively working on making the breakdown of earnings more visible and easy to understand within the app. We appreciate you being understanding about how the model works and we are committed to making sure that trust is earned. Stay tuned for some big improvements!

Use stepbet instead

Done with this app. I just ran my own challenge which I paid $10 for. Only two people participated including me. The trackkng was extremely sketchy. It looked as though the other person failed on multiple days. But, upon completion of the challenge they were still considered successful. And to make it worse, i lost money on my $25 entry fee, meaning i lost more than $10 on the challenge altogether. This is because steppa takes their cut regardless of how many people complete the challenge. There is no money back guarantee like stepbet

Hey Tim, we are sorry for the frustration and we completely understand why you felt that way. The Cozy Cardio challenge experienced a significant delay due to a step syncing bug that came up during a launch far bigger than we anticipated. We take full responsibility for it. The challenge has since been fully settled and everyone has received their payout. We pushed updates to fix the issue and reached out directly to all affected users via email. Steppa is not a scam. We are a real team that cares about our users and we worked around the clock to make sure everyone was taken care of. We know actions speak louder than words and we hope the resolved payout reflects that. If you have any remaining concerns please reach out to us at support@playsteppa.com. We hope you will give us another chance.

SCAMMER - STOLE $100

⚠️🚨 Buyer Beware 🚨⚠️ I completed a smaller challenge with no issues, then joined a $100 challenge and was suddenly banned without warning, explanation, or evidence. My account is still banned, my money is still being held, and instead of providing proof or resolving the issue, the company’s official X account chose to publicly joke about my step count. 🤷‍♂️💸 If you’re considering putting money into this app, just be aware that based on my experience, your account can be banned and your funds withheld without transparency

Great idea

It’s really motivating. Also, I don’t understand why people complain about the app here? Just understand that it’s a great startup idea. Their team might not be able to handle all the issues right now, but you can see they’re trying to fix things quickly. Just give them a little time. This idea deserves to grow worldwide.

Hey David, that is exactly why we built it! Thank you and keep stepping!

Great App!

Easiest money I’ve made. I put $20 into a 10k step challenge and ended up taking a cut of the prize pool because half the people tapped out by Day 4. If you actually hit your daily steps, this is basically free money. It is wild that Im getting paid because other people are too lazy to walk. Payouts are fast and the app is clean. 10/10.

Avoid this app!! Complete waste of time

Risked a total of $20 on two challenges, completed both of them, made $1.69. One challenge over 100 people lost and the only thing I received back was my initial risk. So even with 100 people losing, I risked $10 to make literally $0.00. Use StepBet or one of the other step apps that have better functionality and you can actually make money when you complete challenges.

Hey KSS1225, your feedback is heard and it is exactly the kind of feedback that is changing Steppa. One thing worth knowing: the challenge you joined was created by another Steppa user, not by Steppa itself. That means on top of our platform fee, the creator also received a revenue share from the pool. Both came out before winners were paid, which is part of why the return felt so low. But honestly, that still does not make the experience good enough and we know it. We are two weeks into our launch and we are already rebuilding the entire payout model because of feedback like yours. The new structure moves to 0% taken from the prize pool. Every cent staked goes into the pool, shared only among the players who finish. Winners will always get back at least what they put in, and the more people who fail, the more winners earn with nothing taken off the top. This is not a small tweak. It is a fundamental change and it is happening because our users told us the truth. We hope you will give us another shot when it goes live.

Stole my money

This shouldn’t be on the Canadian App Store. I deposited money to join and now they won’t let me withdrawal saying they don’t support Canadian bank accounts.

Response from developer

Hey andyleyden, you are raising a completely fair point and we are sorry for the frustration. You are right that if the app is available in Canada, Canadian users should be able to withdraw. We did not communicate this clearly enough upfront and we take full responsibility for that. International payment options including Canadian bank accounts are coming very soon and your balance is completely safe in the meantime. Please email us at support@playsteppa.com with your username and we will personally make sure you are taken care of, including initiating a manual transfer if needed while we finalize the in-app solution. We are sorry again and we are building toward a much better experience for international users.

Updated review

Small team. No massive funding rounds. Just quiet, consistent shipping. Every time I open the app there’s something new — a UI tweak, a new reward, a small quality-of-life fix that tells you someone actually cares.

The whole thing is built around one idea: make getting healthy actually fun. Steps, streaks, rewards — it’s gamified without being annoying about it. You’re not being lectured about your health. You’re just… playing. And somehow you end up walking more.

I don’t take this app seriously and that’s exactly why it works. The moment a health app starts feeling like homework, you delete it. Steppa never feels like that.

Good app!

They have a good concept on their hands, great customer support, and their layout is clean, but they do have a few bugs in the app. This past week I was a part of a challenge that didn’t pay out even though I did the 10k straps daily. There was a glitch in the system that messed with my profile but it was quickly remedied but the developers. I would give them a few more weeks before downloading.

Hey Footedranger, thank you for updating your review and for the kind words about our support team! Glitchy (update)

Update: payment was delayed but it did eventually come through. It’s a fun app and I like the idea so we’ll see moving forward but recommend to anyone looking for motivation to get those steps in.

Completed challenge and fine print says payout will occur within 24 hours. It’s been 2 days without settlement and I can’t join a new challenge. Lame.

Hey Ksalmons12, we are sorry about this and completely understand the frustration. The Cozy Cardio challenge experienced a delay beyond the normal 24 hour window due to a step syncing bug that came up during our launch. We take full responsibility for that. The challenge has since been fully settled and everyone has received their payout. We also pushed updates to fix the underlying issue so this does not happen again. Going forward all challenges settle at 8 AM EST the day after they end. We also enabled everyone to join a new challenge while the settlement was pending so you should no longer be blocked. If you have any remaining issues please reach out to us at support@playsteppa.com and we will sort it out personally. We hope you will give Steppa another shot!

Scam

Joined a 10k step a day for 5 day challenge. Sent in my $20 and reach over the goal every day for 5 days. The 5th day I hit 20k steps, well over what I needed and the app showed that I was over the 10k threshold. I woke up today after the challenge and it said I failed. Reported that I had 0 steps when my health app, and the Steppa app showed over 20k. Can’t contact support because no one responds. DM’d them, emailed them, commented on social media and nothing. It’s a scam and I lost my $20 and prize money.

Hey lgbpeople, we are truly sorry this was your experience and we want to make it right. What happened on the final day of your challenge was caused by a service outage at our infrastructure provider that was completely outside of our control. It caused steps to not sync correctly for some users right at the finish line, which is exactly what you experienced. We also sincerely apologize for not responding sooner. We were hit with a much larger launch than we anticipated and our support volume was overwhelming. That is not an excuse and we are sorry. Please email us at support@playsteppa.com with your username and we will personally look into your account and make sure you are taken care of. You completed that challenge and you deserve to be paid for it.

Scam

Cool concept but it’s the last day of the challenge for “Cash Club” and I have completed my 10k steps for each day; today it won’t show that my steps are complete in the challenge and now says “Something went wrong! Unable to load challenge details” which is weird because it’s worked fine all week but now that it’s close to the end of the challenge the app is y working. So I guess they just took my $20. Beware.

Hey Meli__mae, we are sorry this was your experience and we completely understand why it felt that way. What happened on the final day of Cash Club was caused by a service outage at our infrastructure provider that was completely outside of our control and affected thousands of businesses worldwide. It caused steps to not sync correctly for some users right at the finish line. We want you to know that we took care of every single person affected by this. Everyone from the Cash Club challenge has been made whole. Please check your in-app wallet and you should see your credit there. If for any reason it is not showing please email us at support@playsteppa.com and we will sort it out personally. Steppa is not a scam and we would never take money that was not ours. We are working hard every day to make sure this kind of thing never happens again.

Love the app

Previous challenge data and missing pay out information was fixed. Such a cool motivational app and fun to go through challenges with friends and family who also signed up

Response from developer

Hey DuchessCherie, thank you for the feedback and we are glad you are enjoying the concept! We are sorry your challenge data and payout stopped showing. This was one of the issues that came up during our launch, which was much bigger than we anticipated. We have already pushed updates to fix this and have been in direct contact with everyone affected via email, being fully transparent and even offering refunds where needed. We hope you will stick with us and give it another shot. We are confident the experience will be much smoother from here and we are working hard every day to make Steppa everything it should be!
