Average execution of an excellent idea
**You will note, as I did, that the developer did not mention the price of Pro in their response to this review. I won’t speculate on why, but personal experience using the app has shown me that £99/year may not even be paid back though rewards, let alone making a profit. This should be reconsidered, but I otherwise appreciate their reply.**
The good: Make some money and get held accountable for keeping up a very healthy habit. The results during a challenge can be a little confusing, who has failed etc, but couldn’t be made much clearer imo.
The bad: Fees and unfair currency conversion rate from PayPal infuriating but not their fault, another payment method apparently on the way. The Pro subscription seems very overpriced, and could reduce ROI as high-output users can join multiple challenges. Cited 60% ROI when joining a challenge disingenuous at the very least. Some users clearly appear to cheating, doesn’t seem to be a way to report them.

Half the time the steps don’t count properly. They scam me $60. Total fraud stay away.

Hello! We would like to look at this properly rather than leave it here. Every step comes from Apple Health, and if steps are not counting the cause is usually on the Apple Health side, either a permission or a wearable that is not syncing, and that is fixable. Email support@playsteppa.com with the challenge and the dates, along with a screenshot of your step counts in the Apple Health app, and someone will check your records against ours. We want to make this right for you!

So Far, So Great!
So, there’s a poll in the app as I speak asking for user feedback on allowing concurrent challenges. I see a high likelihood of Devs, who have full access to data, basing changes on whims. Right now, it’s great. I hope Devs will continue on valid updated and changes that benefit why we’re here: we are people motivated by a monetary reward. Keep it cheat-free, don’t dilute. If anything increase challenges with higher buy-ins. If people are willing to accumulate $230 in multiple challenges, just create that challenge for the high rollers. Keep it affordable and fair for people like me. $12 allowed me to participate. I’ve seen others similar and challengers earning $15. Don’t over entice and create cheaters or dilution. Keep up the good work. Keep out the bad work. You have the data. You hear us, or at least I hope so. Loving this app.

Can’t seem to open update
I just downloaded the update for the app I tried opening it before my next challenge starts tomorrow and I can’t seem to open the app🥲. But I really love it tho

Love everything about this app it does motivate me to get up and active.
I do have a question to the developers. Is there any initiative to address users that are using exploits to game the system. I’ve noticed that some of the leaderboards are showing users that have registered 20k plus steps within hours of starting the day. Now I’m not a complete health nut but registering that many steps only 6 hours into the day is quite honestly insane. I actively walk all day for work averaging about 10k steps and that’s after worked 8 plus hours a day. Are there plans to address dishonesty and gaming the app. Will there be a feature where challenges can have the option to require step verification such as requiring the use of health tracking items such as Oura, Apple Watch, or health tracking earphones.
I find the report of putting out 20k steps impressive if it’s legit but to give an example I’ve done some traveling abroad in Japan where I was actively walking all day, like ALL day and at most registered 14k steps after walking consistently for 8 hours.

This app is great for fitness and motivation, I think if a lot of people used this app it would make many people fitter and healthier.
Serious Transparency Concern
I really like the concept behind Steppa, but my experience with the “Push the Boulder” challenge has raised serious concerns about the accuracy and transparency of the challenge results.
During the challenge, I checked the participant list and accounts approximately 71–177 were showing 0 steps, while roughly the first 70 participants appeared to have completed the required goal. After the challenge ended, however, those same accounts appeared with exactly 3,000 steps and were included as winners.
I contacted support asking for an explanation but have not yet received a clear answer.
I am not claiming these are fake accounts because I have no way to verify that. However, when real money and prize pools are involved, participants should be able to clearly understand how steps are verified, why displayed step totals can change after a challenge, and exactly how the final number of winners and payouts are calculated.

Hello! This is a fair question and worth a proper answer rather than a short one. Steps are read from Apple Health and manually entered steps never count, and a day is not decided until it ends at midnight in each participant's own local time, so progress you see mid challenge is only what has synced at that point rather than a final result. One thing that explains part of what you saw: once a day is completed, the app displays it at the daily goal rather than the exact count, which is why finishers can all show the same round number at the end.
