Privacy violated before I even used the app

EDIT: thank you for the response. I will leave my review at 1 star because almost nothing in this app intended for connection between people is available without putting up a payment. Non-profit or no, private or no, it's too difficult to use this service to even determine whether it's worth the money.

ORIGINAL: I haven't got more spam in years than I did in the 4 days after I downloaded this app. I didn't even use the same email for my registration as I do for my App Store account. Either there was a crazy coincidence in the world of spam email, or this app is to blame.

Hi Pmmal, It's not possible that the spam you are talking about has anything to do with Stitch. Quite apart from the fact that Stitch maintains the tightest of security standards, as part of our obligations as a non-profit charity, we think you'll find that any Stitch member would tell you that Stitch is the most ethical organization you are likely to encounter. We are run by our members, for our members, so we protect both our members' privacy and their safety with a fierce passion. We'd encourage you to actually come along to some community activities where you can meet other members and find out what we do for them. We think you'll learn how hard we work to protect our members' information from scammers and hackers (which is one of the reasons we don't even ask for our members' last names, just to protect them). If you have concerns, we'd courage you to reach out to support@stitch.net and the team will do their best to help out. Regards, Andrew from Stitch

Deceptive marketing tactics

First you sign up and build a profile. Then they tell you that you need to be verified. Once you do what they say to verify, then they tell you it could take up to 24 hours to verify you. During that time you are waiting to be verified, you can search activities in your area. A bunch will show up unlocked (the ones you can do for free without joining). In my area the ones I could access free were mixed virtual and in person. I clicked on 3 meals out, 1 coffee outing, and one take a walk outing that were all unlocked. You get excited about meeting people face to face. Then you get the “You’re Verified” email. Yay! Then you go back in the app and guess what? All the in person ones are now locked or gone, and only virtual ones remain like learn to crochet??!!!! This is a marketing SCAM to bait you, hook you, and get you to join.

Messy

I’m curious about something. Do you guys actually use your own app? You don’t see anything wrong with it? I don’t think this app is user friendly at all. Any time I want to find an event I have to scroll through a million virtual events to get to what I want. Why don’t you guys separate those from the rest? There are a lot more issues with this app which I don’t have the energy to get into. I keep thinking you will do more updates to fix all the problems but you guys rarely do updates. I don’t get it. My advice is to USE your own app to realize what the problems are.

Poor content moderation

Allows nasty content in group discussions

Lousy customer service and pricey

The concept sounds great . I have a problem with my subscription and customer service has not responded so far and it’s been a week. I don’t see filters to filter out men . Also, you’re being rated constantly by other people so it’s almost better to have less contacts.

Avoid at all costs

Horrible experience and a total waste of money. Don’t bother putting information in about the type of person you’d like to meet. I’m 65 and had geriatric men in their late 70s message me. Men shorter than me. Men with disabilities. Stitch ignores your preferences. Then the activities are horrible. Mainly women. Plus these women are nasty. High school mean girls. Very clicky as they’ve made friends earlier so you’re not in their groups. The same men keep going to the activities so you’ve got no chance of meeting anyone new.

Don’t bother

Don’t bother the platform has been usurped in virginia by political and religious proselytizing. Very unwelcoming to L GBT

Rip Off

The app doesn’t mention it costs $40 a month for full access. Not worth a fraction of that. Layout is terrible and they get all your info to sell before they tell you the cost.

Stitch helps build community

As with anything, we get out what we put in. Each of us need community and to feel connected. Stitch has a mission to stomp out loneliness and social isolation in the over 50 population. Check it out! You’ve got nothing to lose!

Awesome App for Seniors

Stitch is the world’s largest companionship community for folks over 50. I’ve only been on for a short time snd I’ve already met a lot of nice people. The community support is fantastic! Would highly recommend it.

Stitch

A community of Adult Men and women who are engaged in friendship, activities, discussions. This is not a Dating Site.
One thing I like about this site is verifying members before they can start interacting with other members. Once you are a part of this community, you found friends from all over the world who are very welcoming, respectful , supportive and caring for one another.
You want to have friends? This is the site to join!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review for Stitch, Ceswho56! We work very hard to encourage welcoming, respectful and supportive behavior in the community, so it's tremendously rewarding to hear you feel that way. Thanks for being a member of Stitch!

Need to improve the app functionality

This is the most tedious to use social app I’ve ever seen.

The search functionality is limited meaning you get meaningless results, for events/activities you have to add them to your calendar manually, if you choose an activity to be invited to or waitlisted, as soon as you make the request and try to go back to full list you start at the beginning again.

You get bombarded with email after email for simple things like someone else is interested in a group that you like.

I could go on and on.

Development team, why don’t you start doing some user experience feedback sessions and make this app easier to use? After all it is a paid app.

Brilliant!!!!

I haven’t seen another app like this! A place where you meet either virtually or physically if you choose have communication and establish rapport and make friends!!!
Very applicable for those above a certain age who for one reason or other would like to socialise even just in the comfort and convenience of your own home!!!

Great way to get involved in different activities

Stitch has been a wonderful way to get involved in new and exciting activities. So many different things to choose from and the events are run by friendly and welcoming people. I have also made some new friends. Jasbir

Love Stitch!

My wife died a year ago. I was not ready for dating but found Stitch on a 2nd Act TV episode on YouTube. It can be used for romance but it is not primarily a dating site. It is a social network. There are varied discussion groups, Zoom meetings, and in person activities. The membership is primarily from Australia, the US and Canada, and Great Britain. But this is on the internet so there are people from other countries also. I have made many new friends on Stitch and find the interaction very helpful. If you try it out I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Thank you.

Motivational App!

I was looking to make friends with like- minded 50+ people but don’t have a wide inter-personal network.

I am also am interested in friendship and steer away from dating sites. (Frankly, they turn me off because they make one feel like a commodity.)

A quick web search brought Stitch up and I decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised!

The Stitch community is 50+ with a balanced amount of people in their 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. And while some are looking to date, the majority I found are truly interested in friendship.

So far, everyone I’ve met through Stitch has been respectful, kind, thoughtful, interesting, and just really nice.

The admin staff is not difficult to contact and get a quick response from. In fact, the “face” of Stitch, Andrew, is approachable and down-to-earth.

It’s easy to create and join groups, events, discussions, and contact other members of the community - and the community is spread over a few countries.

There are even incentives to get involved and a program to help more members feel welcome and part of the community.

I just have one comment if improvement is possible - when I receive an email message that someone has replied to my comment in a discussion, when I click the link in the email to go to the discussion, it takes me to the latest comment and I have to scroll quite a bit to find the reply. It would be helpful if the link could take me right to the reply.

Other than that, Stitch is a positive and refreshingly enjoyable experience! I recommend it to the mature and discerning person truly looking to be part of a special community.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review of your experiences in the community so far, Stitcher of Detroit! I'm so glad to hear you've been meeting so many respectful and kind members ... we've put a lot of work into building a community that values those attributes, as we think they are so important! I know what you mean about the frustration of linking directly to comments in an active discussion, that's definitely something we hope we can add this year. It turns out to be quite challenging technically, if the comment is quite an old one, so it might be a while before we have the resources available to address it, but I'm sure we'll get to it. Thanks for the input and thanks for being a member of the community! Regards, Andrew from Stitch

There are so many varied things to do and see everyday. The organisers are thoroughly committed, friendly and welcoming.

Love Stitch

Stitch has given me a new lease on life. I found being a single women in my early 60s very difficult to meet people. Now I have built some wonderful new friendships and I am out socialising all the time. Take that first step, you won’t regret it!!

Response from developer

What a great story Colleen! I was actually at a surf club tonight watching a bunch of people sitting on their own, and it really struck me how crazy it is that it's not easier for us to strike up a conversation with someone new. Stitch has given me a new lease on life; I'm so glad it's done the same for you! Thanks for being such a great member of the community, Andrew from Stitch 😊

Friendships

I heard about Stitch from a friend who is a member. I joined a couple of months and found that Stitch is great for meeting people. I have been to a few events and enjoyed myself.

Member 6 years

I’ve been a Stitch member for about 6 years. There are different geographical groups you can join within the Stitch group. I’m a member of 4 groups. For the first 3 years I went to social activities often. Have always felt safe attending because it’s not a dating or meet-up group and I can socialise as I want. It’s about the conversation with everyone attending if I want to or I can watch the entertainment that we’ve gone to see. There is no pressure to meet a new partner although that does happen for some. For the most recent time, my new partner is not a member of stitch but there are some activities that he can attend with me (if I check with the organiser). I tend to do the breathing/meditation these days online. I’ve told many of my single friends about Stitch and they’ve joined & also enjoyed the variety of activities to choose from. Some have made new friends. I have no need to join other groups because Stitch has offered me so much socially. I have never felt lonely in any activity that I’ve attended. People are always friendly. Anne
