Phenomenal language app
This app is just so thoughtfully and well designed. Can’t recommend Sylvi highly enough! It’s amazing to finally have found a way to practice speaking German in a low-stakes setting, but also get remarkably detailed feedback. It’s amazing how the app is able to put together little focused lessons based on the specific problem areas you’re having in the target language. This is one of the best parts of the app! And this feature is so impressive. There are just so many absolutely useless language apps and this one is just phenomenal. Wow!
I have a couple suggestions for the developers:
1) The “Quick Lessons” only come with just five exercises. Could there be a way to have the AI generate more of them on a specific grammar topic if desired? Or to be able to go back to a lesson generated on a previous day and get more exercises on that topic? I’d like to be able to practice the grammar topic I’m having issues with more extensively.
2) The news articles in the German version of the app are all originally written in English (the Guardian, BBC) and just translated into German. Could news articles be made available that were originally written in the target language so that the reading practice is authentic? Such as Tagesschau, Deutsche Welle, Heute.de etc.
3) The text-to-speech/dictation function in the pen-pal chats is on the whole mostly reliable; my only recommendation for the developers that is they continue to update this as the technology improves. The embedded dictation function in the app certainly isn’t as good as say Wispr flow and I often have to edit my dictated speech to correct errors.

Finally I am finding consistency with my language learning!
I am really enjoying the penpal feature of this app and find it’s helping me be consistent with my French and Spanish practice. It feels just like needing to reply to a friend’s message - I love it. Also, the corrections are so so helpful for checking up on my grammar slip ups.
ACTUALLY making progress
For the first time in SUCH a long time, this app is helping me make real progress on speaking Portuguese 😭 I was on the verge of giving up, but I’ve now stuck with Sylvi for over 100 days. The method, the personalisation & seeing your progress makes this the best language learning app ever! Everyone should use it

Great Language Practice App
Sylvi is a great app for practicing real conversation, both written and spoken. It’s a fun and unique way to stay engaged while learning, and I think it’s well worth the money, especially for the detailed progress reports and insights it provides. I definitely recommend it for anyone looking to improve their language skills!

THE App for learning a new language
I have been learning portuguese for a while now and other apps don’t even have european portuguese but Sylvi even has different cities within Portugal you can choose from to learn with a Penpal through texting and directly using vocabulary and based on your mistakes you‘ll get a personalised lesson. I recommend this app to everyone who wants to actively use everything they learn and get confident through out the process!

Excellent App!
I had a hard time finding a language app that offered European Portuguese until Sylvi came along! The penpals are amazing, and the feature of being able to add and speak with friends is great! I couldn’t do any of that before with the app I was using previously. I fully recommend Sylvi, and not just for Portuguese, there are a ton of other languages and dialects as well!

Unglaublich, was diese App alles kann! Ich bin erst seit 14 Tagen dabei und hab schon so viel gelernt! Als deutscher Muttersprachler lerne ich Portugiesisch und mir war gar nicht klar, dass die App auch Deutsch -Portugiesisch funktioniert und nicht nur Englisch Portugiesisch. I’ve taken Spanish in school for many years, from around kindergarten through high school, but I was never really able to understand conversations or properly communicate on my own. Although I’m still not fully conversational, since I started using this app, I’ve noticed that I understand a lot more Spanish. It has helped me make mental connections that I wasn’t making before.
The use of pen pals has also been exceptional. Since they have memory, they remember the things you tell them and can ask you questions about them later. This helps you practice talking about yourself and having more natural conversations instead of just memorizing vocabulary or phrases. You also get to learn how a native speaker would actually communicate, which has made Spanish feel much more natural and practical for me.

Unbelievable app!
I’ve used every language app under the sun & nothing’s come close to this! It’s the only app that’s genuinely helped me get better at SPEAKING Italian. The explanations are so in depth & the personalised lessons are quality. Would recommend to everyone

Excellent for using French in every day life
I signed up to Sylvi after spending 2 years learning French on DuoLingo. I learned a lot on DuoLingo, but never felt I had a strong grasp of day to day conversational French. Sylvi is very focused on helping users get to using the language more naturally, whether that’s reading the news or using the excellent pen pal function, which will create an instant lesson based on your actual use of the language. There is also an option to create a tailored lesson plan, depending on how much time you wish to spend each day. Overall it’s an excellent app and I feel my French progressing to a more comfortable level, where I’m confident in using it in real life situations.

Amazing language learning app
I’ve been using sylvi for a few weeks now and can honestly say, it is one of the best apps out there for learning and assistance of a language.
The layout of the app is really simple and easy to use, paired with a really good penpal system which can make learning a language actually interesting and something you *want* to keep doing.
Already I’ve made more progress with natural conversational skills in the short time I’ve been using the app compared to something like Duolingo or Babbel.
Definitely check out this app if you are wanting to be more conversational and natural whilst learning a language!!!

Simply the best
This is simply the best app I’ve ever used to practice Spanish!!
Great app
This is a great app especially for practicing speaking. I study 3 different languages and try to prepare before trips. It’s hard to code switch to different languages for me. I also need time to think and process when speaking—and am too self conscious to do it with real people at the moment. This app lets me go at my own pace, gives me what I actually said and tells me the corrections. The conversations are AI generated but very realistic. Makes it super easy to learn in a way that mimics real life and build confidence. The flash card situation helps me study new words and the practical tests are great. Also having a spot to read articles is a huge bonus. If only they could add TV shows! It would be perfect!

Excellent and personalized learning
Sylvia has really impressed me with the depth of features and how it feels like the language learning app I've been searching for for a long time. Overall, I love the focus on writing, speaking and listening. The way you can text or speak to the penpal and get instant feedback on any mistakes you made is amazing; and the contextual explanation of any grammar that is confusing is excellent.
I also love that you can tap within the conversation and create a flash card for any word OR phrase just by selecting the relevant word(s). You can preview the meaning of the flash card before you create it too.
Then, there's the lessons that are dynamically generated from the conversation you had that day, accounting for any weak spots or mistakes it has noticed you making consistently. The lessons are really customized to you, including actual examples of mistakes you made in your conversation with the pen pal.
This app feels so much more personalized to improving your skills in the target language. It's really impressive to me, and much better than anything else on the market.

Phenomenal
The amount of love, effort, and attention to detail that the developers have put into this app is unreal. This is something everyone needs to have if they are learning a language. By far, the greatest tool that I have at my disposal, and I have invested a lot into several different apps and websites. This one tops them all!!
If you think this is just an AI messaging app it’s not! That is just the absolute tip of the iceberg! There’s so much the app offers beyond that including personalized lessons based on your errors while chatting, personalized flashcards (not only for words, but phrases too), there’s a section where you can read news in the other language and easily translate and have a conversation about that news article, which i think is just the coolest thing.

I never write reviews for apps. But I love Sylvi. I am improving my French speaking skills and I feel more confident about it. I was growing tired of other apps where I only learn grammar but forget about it because I can’t put it into action. Here I get to chat with people that often I forget are not real. I love it!

Easy to use and rewarding
This app really clicked for me as someone who reads French pretty well but wishes they could speak it more fluently. It’s way better than any other AI language app I’ve tried. After a few weeks, I’m feeling the benefits of targeted and constructive feedback. And I’m actually enjoying conversing daily with French speakers, who feel “real”, in a safe and unintimidating space.
