Finally! A Productivity App I will stick with

I have used all the productivity apps to attempt to wrangle in my overwhelming amount of work and personal responsibilities. Tasks does it well by combining projects, kanban, customization, and great UX. It also looks great.

Data gone

Just love when data is completely gone. Paywall to get it back? Or faulty upgrade path đŸ€·â€â™‚ïžoh well not going to try this again. Can’t trust and app that doesn’t handle upgrades with care.

Interesting...

Still figuring out all out!

Unacceptable Update After a Year of Use

This app used to be 100% free, fully offline, and reliable. I had been using this app for over a year. I updated it through the App Store expecting normal improvements, but instead I lost all of my backlog tasks, projects, and saved data. On top of that, the app now has a paywall.

That is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. Removing or locking features is bad enough, but wiping user data is a SERIOUS breach of trust. I had been using this app because it was simple, private, and offline. Now it feels like the developer pushed a completely different product without warning and left existing users to deal with the damage.

VERY disappointed. I would NOT recommend updating or relying on this app unless the developer explains what happened, fixes this immediately, and gives existing users a fair way forward.

Near constant harassment for upsells

The core app seems pretty nice for my use case. However, at least twice a day, I get two attention stealing popups from it, harassing me to sign up for its subscription (which I do not need). It’s incredibly irritating!

Project plan

Good for organization & project planning

Billing is messed up

I subscribed to the Plus plan. Took my money but I cannot add more than two projects. Rip-off!

Glad It Has Improved

This app went through a rough patch, when a lot of core features went south, but it has really made a comeback, which is good to see. Very useful and easy to operate.

Nope

Lots of bugs, and pretty pricey. What’s up with the strange icons. Even the plain ones are just that. Boring. Deleting

No long-form description or text field by default

The default setup of this app is utterly ridiculous for a Kanban board. When you create a task, there is no place or visible button to add a long-form text field. There’s a “Text” field in the “Modify Fields” menu, but it doesn’t show up anywhere and is inaccessible. The only way to have a long-form Text or Description field in your tasks is to manually add one, in what is the least intuitive way I’ve ever seen in an app.

I finally figured out how to get it to do what I want, sort of, but having a long-form text field in the main task window should be a default, not something that takes me ten minutes of frustration and unfruitful web searches to stumble into.

Furthermore, even when you add a Text or Description field, it will not appear when you create the task. Instead, you have to create the task, which closes the dialog, then reopen it to add the Description. You also have to manually add the field for every project you create. There isn’t a global way to make it work. Stupid!

I wouldn’t be so harsh in my review if I hadn’t foolishly paid for the Task Plus version. I wish I had not purchased this app. I will never use it.

Lifetime subscription gone

I had purchased the lifetime subscription earlier, and after the new upgrade, i have lost it!! The app is expecting me to purchase it one more time
I am not able to use the plus benefits and this has been a very disappointing experience

Not syncing between device, forcing me to pay annual plans or other plans

Been using the free version for a couple of years now for work. I do enjoy it despite some of the bugs it had. I decided to purchase the annual Plus plan since I want to be able to sync between my IPad and my work computer and create more projects. After purchasing, I downloaded it on my iPad and signed in using my apple account which is what i use to purchase on my work computer. But it was not syncing at all. Not only that, it was requiring me to purchase again or do the 7 day trial, which required me to make another purchase. I ended up making the purchase again to see if will sync and allow me access to the plus . But instead, I got charged but Im still locked out, and the plus tab only asks me to purchase again. I do like this app but it needs to fix the sync and payment issue, to not require user to pay again and charge them, once they already made a purchase.

Thanks a lot for sticking with the app for so long and for upgrading Vince! I’m genuinely sorry to hear that your experience with syncing and billing has been so frustrating. There was an issue in the update, and we’ve fixed it since then! Thanks for sending the email, and I’m glad we could resolve this issue for you. If you could correct the review to reflect the resolution, it would mean a lot to us! Stay productive, Mustafa

Getting better

Used to be clunky, now it is very smooth. Should be in the top 10 apple productivity apps!

Won’t let me delete

What a stupid app makes it very hard to delete it

Layout

I struggle with how the to dos, tags and projects are played out

Notifications don’t work and recurring tasks don’t work properly

I downloaded this app trying to replace apple reminders as that app sucked. The notifications for this never work even when they’re all properly turned on. for tasks that recur daily it skips to 2 days from when you last checked it off instead of actually recurring daily. I can’t believe i wasted money on this app

Very confusing and hard to use

I keep trying to get this to work. I had really high hopes when I first saw it, but attempting to use it has been unbelievably frustrating.

It has a weird organizational scheme so everything has to be part of a larger project. So if you want to add laundry to the list, you have to come up with a larger "project" folder to put it in. This means that you can never just put something on your to do lists.

Categories/tags are separate from projects. It’s not clear how you would use this (given that you already have sub-tasks when creating a project, and can prioritize both tasks and sub-tasks, but nevertheless the tags are there - you just shouldn’t rely on them.

When you finally figure this out and create clear list of task and sub-tasks, organized by priority and due date (a proxies which takes some time), the app will (seemingly at random, modify the status of some of those tasks so they are listed as "in progress." It will then list duplicate versions of those task asks on your list, without regard for how you prioritized them. If you try to modify the rules and move some of them back to "to do," rather than "in progress," it will delete the tasks altogether. You cannot retrieve a deleted task, so you’ll have to start again from scratch.

You’re better off using paper and a pen, or just the notes app on your phone. You won’t get reminders or the same organizational structure, but nothing will get automatically deleted, and you won’t be required to organize your tasks in a nonsensical structure and just adds more confusion.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to write this out so clearly. I can sense the effort you put into trying to make the app work for you, and I sincerely apologize that it turned into a frustrating experience instead. You’re right in pointing out that Tasks has a strong project-first structure. While this design works well for some users, it can feel unintuitive if you prefer to quickly jot down standalone tasks like “laundry” without considering a larger context. Your feedback is valid, and I’m actively re-evaluating the app to better support both lightweight and structured workflows. Your points about tags, task status changes, and unexpected deletions are particularly important. Some of these behaviors were introduced as bugs in recent updates (I am already fixing them), while others have highlighted genuine UX gaps where the app didn’t behave predictably or provide clear explanations. I take full responsibility for these issues. Tasks may not be the right fit for everyone today, and I respect that. However, feedback like yours directly influences the app’s future direction, and my goal is to make it work for a broader range of users. If you’re open to it, I’d greatly appreciate continuing this conversation at tasks@msquarelabs.com. I’m not trying to convince you, but rather to learn from your experience and ensure that similar issues don’t recur. Thank you once again for being honest and taking the time to share your feedback. Have a productive day, Mustafa
