UPDATE app for use with USB-C
I have the legacy tentacles and I can’t change the frame rate anymore since I’ve upgraded to a new iPhone with USB-C. Please update your app. I know you’re probably doing this to force people into buying the new tentacles, but I’d rather buy Denecke’s if I need to upgrade because of your lack of support.

Tentacle is a wonderful ecosystem for audio and timecode!
I use Tentacle Sync E mk II for timecode to all of my cinema cameras. I used to prefer to not use my personal phone or laptop but I’ve embraced the speed and simplicity of using software and having easy visibility into everything happening on set, including Sync E, Aputure, Teradek. This just makes life easier on set, prevents mishaps that can cause problems, and lets everyone work faster. Big props to Tentacle for being one of the first ones to do it, and do it extremely well!

Rock solid. Up and running super fast!
I purchased four Sync E units to use with RED and Canon cameras for timecode. This app is clean, easy to use, everything just works and keeps things efficient. I also use four Track E units as 32-bit float backup recorders when using a boom mic. This allows everything to be nimble and efficient having it all in one app and all units in sync. Talent appreciates how light weight the pocket recorders are and camera ops like how Sync E is small and light weight and doesn’t get in the way in a camera build. Managing everything quickly from a well thought out app is fantastic.

Legacy box Does NOT work with iPhone 15
Is not compatible with iPhone 15 using a legacy box.

I use this as a backup record for my ENG rig. It’s nice peace of mind to have. I just wish it had any memory card info in the app. I have no idea when I need to change cards.
Good app but a big flaw...
The app works well. It conveniently allows remote recording and status monitoring of the Track E recorders, and syncs the timecode of all my Track E recorders with the Sync E timecode generator. A glaring drawback - a BIG flaw - is during recording, the app SHOWS audio levels, but it DOES NOT allow the audio being recorded to be monitored out of the iPhone. This probably could be done easily via Bluetooth. So there is no way to use the app to tell if your audio recording is good or not - if there is too much wind or other unwanted noise - since the 3.5mm jack doesn't work on the U.S. model of the recorder.

App takes over iPhone
One problem on an otherwise great product for me. The latest version and previous version (I just updated Jan 14, 2021) will get stuck in a loop because Bluetooth is not on. I have both tentacle types, Bluetooth and the earlier cabled version. There are plenty of reasons I may not want Bluetooth on at any given time, but I would still like to connect to my wired tentacles. Can’t do it because the app keeps demanding you go to settings on your phone. I can’t even close the app, it totally takes over my phone until I hit the Settings button. I don’t want an app to EVER take over control of my phone.

Great when it doesn’t crash.
With the recent update, the app crashes every time I try to use it within about 3 seconds of opening it.
This added unnecessary stress to a recent production I was on.
Hopefully an update will come soon and resolve this.

I love Tentacle
We’ve been using Tentacle for 2 years with minimal problems. For providing very basic timecode utilities, the apps pack a powerful punch.
Additional feature
The app works great. Would love a notification when tentacle box's battery runs low and when cable got unplugged from camera. Would it be possible ? Would be pretty cool
Decent results with Tentacle Sync Studio
This system works quite well in conjunction with the official Tentacle Sync Studio software for Mac OS. However, I have not been able to get accurate syncs using the audio timecode features in Premiere or Resolve.
Doesn’t Show correct TC
For some reason I have to download and reinstall the app each time I use my Tentacle or else the TC is off by a second. Thinking about selling my Tentacle for an Ambient unless there’s a fix.
