by design, you can’t get in app notifications if you disable push notifications on your device - so, no comment replies or stories tailored to you - unless you allow them to spam your device - just absolutely hostile user experience behavior
Renewal process
Was automatically renewed without our notification and charged a year long fee for $72. I contacted customer service without any help to reimburse my account for even a partial refund.

Gotta keep up with the other sports apps we need live scores on the lock screen
World Cup
NYT coverage has been stupendous. The predictions score game and the connections game has been so much fun. I’m a new big fan of the Athletic.
The Best
There was a time you would of haD to subscribe to 100 publications and 30 newspapers to get the depth of coverage. There is something there for every sport interest. It turned the sports media world upside down when they all collectively assumed that no one would read—just give them a quick video of the obvious.

No beat writer replacement
For years, the St. Louis Cardinals had Katie Woo as their beat writer and the coverage was great. She was reassigned to the Dodgers, which of course was a great opportunity for her but now they haven’t replaced her and St. Louis Cardinals coverage is sparse. This is really disappointing.

It’s impossible to stop the effing notifications on this app
Awful customer service
I began receiving push notifications for sports I do not follow in the app. I created a tech support ticket and received an initial acknowledgement but after a month and a follow up email later they left me hanging without any response. Terrible customer service.
Live Activities very poorly implemented
The Live Activities do not work most of the time. When the app does manage to open it for a game, if you accidentally close the Live Activity, there is no option to re-open it. I personally confirmed this with NYT support.
Notifications, search
The app constantly says I have notifications, but I don’t. I can’t rid of the alert.
The search function is absolutely awful. It can’t find the top story on the page. It can’t find the story it just recommended to you. Just an atrocious search function. You have to open up Google and search for the story to try to get back to The Athletic.

Best subscription football app you can get. Only flaw is the homepage gets lots of American sports link, presumably from code measuring most read articles
