The Packing Index is a field manual for people who pack seriously: one-baggers, ultralighters, EDC nerds, and anyone tired of dragging a heavy suitcase. It does not just list your gear. It weighs it, scores it, and tells you what to leave behind. SCAN YOUR GEAR Lay your kit out flat and take one photo, with the camera or from your library. Every item comes back named, categorized and weighed. A review screen stands between the scan and your manifest: weights are estimates, anything uncertain arrives unticked, and nothing is added until you say so. YOUR GEAR, CUT OUT AND COLLECTED Photograph a piece of gear and the background is removed on your device, not on a server. The cutouts collect on a Collectibles wall: die-cut pins in Aurora, postage stamps in Field Manual, from the same photo. Long press to rearrange them. THE PACKING INDEX SCORE Every trip gets a 0 to 100 ultralight score built from weight discipline, packing readiness and bag limit adherence. Track base against wearable weight, set a personal base weight goal, and see what is actually holding your number up. BUILD A LIST FROM WHAT YOU OWN Say where and when you are going and it drafts a list: the gear you actually pack, quantities set for the trip length, and what the weather at your destination calls for. Never packed anything yet? It starts you from a sensible baseline rather than a blank page. Every row explains why it is there, and nothing is added until you approve it. FABRIC AWARE ROTATION The app knows merino can be worn for days and cotton cannot, and works out how many of each garment your trip actually needs. Five tees becomes two. WEATHER FOR YOUR ACTUAL DATES The forecast covers the days you are traveling, not the days you happen to be looking, and it is checked against what you have packed. A cold snap with no insulation, or rain with no shell, gets flagged before you leave. For a trip booked months out it shows what those dates are typically like, and says so. ON YOUR MAC, IPHONE AND IPAD One account across all of them. The Mac app is a real Mac app rather than the phone one in a window: a sidebar for your trips, gear, bags and collectibles, your manifest filling the window, menu bar commands, and printing.
