Was top notch prior to sell off

The app had nearly flawless execution prior to the Baker family selling to Gannett. Gannett made some changes behind the scenes, and for a time, a virtual comedy of errors ensued. Duplicate pages, sections missing (including the entire Sumday funnies on more than one occasion), late delivery. At one point, we considered going with a different paper’s on line publication, but the price point was not to our liking. In short, it is only the price point that has kept us subscribing. Meanwhile, the errors have diminished, but are still present. Do you know, for example, you double-print the national re-hash of the headlines every day? Today, it’s section C. You’ve been doing this for weeks, if not months! Where is the proofreading these days?

Addendum: I don’t recall how long it’s been since the previous entry, but the quality of the app and the paper have not improved and I’ve dropped a star because of it. Since then, they have eliminated the entire op-ed section and the Sunday weekly Parade magazine. I presume this was a cost thing, but losing the op-ed kind of guts the public voice one looks for in a newspaper. Also, they continue to print an entire section of the paper (I presume from the Gannett national feed) that repeats a bunch of the news they covered in the first sections.
If they drop the funnies, I’ll have no further use for this.

Able to keep up with local events

We travel quarterly to a board meeting. The electronic version allows me the ability to keep up with our local news as well as National. I have figured out how to do 7 Little Words using a screenshot then using the”mark” feature on my phone and sudoku by taking a screenshot the then putting the numbers in an excel spreadsheet I made. I haven’t yet figured out how to do my other favorite without printing. We have read our paper in other countries as well!

Loads quickly

I like this app. The newspaper loads quickly and seems to be identical to the print version.

It’s the Little Things

Generally a good app. BUT when reading an article (iPad) bullets become “h”, hyphenation not handled correctly. Subtitles and text boxes not handled correctly. Resuming after a break, need to wait while the same edition re-loads, losing my place. Full page magnified, scroll slightly too far left, pops way back to the right. Similar on the web.

Arrgghhh!

Reading the paper used to be a calm time in the morning. Not anymore. Using this app has changed it to an hour of frustration and never wanting to open it again. I’ve attempted to get help with how the page loads to no avail. Today I cannot access my account but instead get a message that this page cannot be found. This company owns many many newspapers all over the country. I would expect it to have a stellar app. It does not.

Tool bar and turn page button.

The right side vertical tool bar is a good idea and I like it except somehow you saw fit to place the page turning icon on the page but very close to the tool bar where ‘see editions’ selection lives. I accidentally hit that “editions” at least a dozen times with every Sunday paper. My fingers are small and I’ve been using computers since 1985 so it isn’t entirely a user issue. It is a big annoyance. I also dislike the split screen view but that is a personal issue. Too narrow with very short choppy lines. Not beautiful but serviceable.

Review for the Register Guard

I have not been able to get signed in to view the The Register Guard for several months. After calling multiple times and was assured they would correct the problem I still cannot view the paper. We have been customers for over 40 years and then switched to online. It was working for a while and now all they do is take our money automatically each month.
VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE SERVICE.

I’m liking the app version overall! Never thought I would, but it’s become really convenient.

Yes

I throughly enjoy reading the paper daily and find the layout easily followed. Thank you

Greatly improved!

After being constantly frustrated with the RG app, I am totally pleased with the upgrade. It’s easy and a pleasure to use. Well done!

CHEAP INTRODUCTORY RATE IS A SCAM

I signed up for the $9.99 for six months introductory offer. The RG billed me $39. At this time I’ve called three times and contacted customer service via email at least three times. I’ve been told four times that I’ll get a refund, but accounting keeps messing it up. It’s been weeks. The call center is outsourced. I don’t know if it’s a scam or a very messed up company. I would advise caution before signing up with the RG. It’s sad s a former Eugenian.

The app works well

This app is pretty well designed and works smoothly. The articles could be improved by doing a better job of proofreading and not running the same articles more than once (such as running several articles in both the Saturday and Sunday issues). I still prefer the paper editions, but know they are wasteful.

Eugene Register-Guard App

We moved from Coos Bay to Dallas, Oregon two years ago. I was missing the delivery of the newspaper but now I can read it on my cell phone or kindle so it’s all good again!
The app is easy to navigate and it looks just like the printed version. I can keep informed and also do the puzzles.

Love having the news at my fingertips

Reading the Register Guard e-edition is so convenient with so many advantages, i.e. the ability to enlarge the print. Also, having access to the bonus edition of USA Today is another plus.

Great

Able to read all the news that is fit to print

It works so-so with Apple devices

The Register-Guard is a worthy read and the best Oregon newspaper outside of Portland, but it took three weeks after download before it properly worked. It’s a Gannett paper so their centralized IT department is likely to blame. Also awful Customer Service loses another star here.

Never got the physical paper because of piling up

But the app makes it easy to glance over the news and not have 20 tons of recycling. I am sad about the decline in overall quality of the paper since it’s sale to the big money publisher, but since I never subscribed I guess I was part of the problem. I applaud the local journalists who are hanging in there and covering the local scene despite the circumstances. From what I have heard the out GHD the grapevine they have to do a lot of their own editing too, which is tricky. So good for them! Oh and the app has been working better and better I even figured out how to read the comics!

thank you for keeping this app going. i have a new ipad and experienced this app no longer working when downloaded (forced to use HTML 5). I was set to cancel my Register Guard subscription because of it. Just tried the app again and it worked. yes, not perfect but i like it. thank you.

Roger Diddock

Many year subscriber, have not been able to open the email paper for 6 weeks and get no help from a “real person” after being hung up on by the listed helper (Phillipine woman I could hardly understand. ) should be simple…it started w R/G not accepting my password….have been hanging ever sense. Tried to start all over by buying into the special and still cannot get paper. Not sure how they stay in business; good luck on ever talking with a real live human being. Such a drop in quality……

RG on line

This on line newspaper is easy to read and easy to move through. I feel good about not cutting down so many trees
