Autoplaying videos have no place in a business app

Autoplaying videos - with audio at full blast. No setting to disable. Obnoxious and unprofessional.

Autoplay videos super annoying

The great reporting etc etc is being ruined by the awful autoplay videos that blast out sound randomly and can’t be turned off in any settings. PLEASE FIX this.

Audio for articles is ruined

This app used to be great. But now if you stay to listen to an article (read by AI) the article will stop if you lock the screen. Or if you navigate away from the app. This ruins the whole reason to use the audio, so you don’t have to stare at the screen. No longer can you lock the phone and put it in your pocket to listen to an article like you can with any of the hundreds of other similar apps. New York Times app can do this, too complicated for you to program, WSJ?

Turn off video autoplay and turn down ad sensitivity

Turn off video autoplay and turn down ad sensitivity

great content, awful app

The audio read option is awesome, great articles, easy access, but has a glaring flaw: settings. For those of us who logon to READ the WSJ, we do NOT want to have a video automatically play. I absolutely HATE auto video. It's distracting from the READING an article. Why can't WSJ make this a setting that can be turned off like 99.9% of other content apps???

Turn off the autoplay

You gotta turn off the video auto play with sound. It’s obnoxious. Especially when your phone is on silent. Turn it off.

Ads playing

Had wsj for years. Somewhat recently, maybe months or so, the ads have started to automatically play with sound. It's so abrupt and jarring, and plays noise publicly, I'm about to uninstall and unsubscribe.

Even without sound, for over a year, the auto play has been pausing whatever I'm listening to in the background automatically. Put a setting in to turn it off.

“Restore Purchase”

Since the price hike ($45 ☠️), the app won’t let you read any news articles unless you subscribe or restore purchase. I’ve been loyal to this company for years and have resubscribed. It still won’t let me view any news - just takes me back to the screen to “restore purchase”. If this isn’t fixed within the week, I’m going to delete WSJ and move on to some other news source.

Ads too touch sensitive!

Your overly touch sensitive ads make reading articles in the app an exercise in frustration. Tone down the sensitivity to match your competitors please. I don’t like constantly popping up new ad windows which take me outside your app involuntarily.

Fixes needed

Love the WSJ., but please fix the audio player for articles! The first 10 seconds it reads some miscellaneous info about the article which can be skipped — and it doesn’t even pronounce things like “WSJ.Magazine” right, which it should.
And second, you can’t even exit the app or lock your iphone while listening to an article. This is very unfortunate

Popup ads? I’m already paying!

Not sure why I get popup ads in the middle of articles now. Quite annoying. The app is also laggy, which is silly, since all it needs to do is display text.

That aside, enjoy the articles.

Canceling is a pain

Honesty this has been the hardest cancelation I’ve ever had to deal with. There is no button to cancel subscription. You must call customer service with faulty phone numbers and then they are no help when you get them. I have been trying to cancel for a hour. Honestly ridiculous that I have to go this far just to cancel.

Great UI

I liked new WSJ+ concept and finally comment sections on the app

Crossword update

Please revert to the prior crossword format. The new format took away the ability to easily navigate to the next clue, and replaced it with a clunky interface with small arrows requiring very precise touch points. Also allow the iPad native keyboard to be utilized. It is cumbersome to have to use a WSJ developed keyboard just to complete the crossword. Also, all crosswords now display “play” with no indication on “completed.” Please put back the completed denotation. Thank you.

Unable to post comments to articles using the mobile app

"The Internet connection appears to be offline." Yet I am able to read the articles. This has been an ongoing problem, yet no developer has addressed it.

Not free, like it says

No, you have to subscribe unless you just want to read previews.

Opt out bug

If you don’t choose “accept all” it goes into a terminal holding pattern that requires that I delete the app. Until this is fixed, I have to use the browser for content.

Crossword fan

You broke the crossword with the recent update. The keyboard is not ergonomic on iPad, clues bizarrely jump around when inputting letters and the clue being answered no longer appears as a separate line. Please fix or revert to the previous iteration.

Gift Links Don’t work.

Please fix app so I can send gift links This used to work. Now link says it copies but recipients can’t open. Sends them to subscriber/log in page.

SLOW

This app just keeps hanging up. I don’t know if they’re doing it intentionally to force you to look at ads, but I can’t get through a single article without it hanging up. Updates seem to make no difference, and I’m on fiber, so not a bandwidth issue.
