Fine for buying tickets. Awful if anything goes wrong.

My LNER train was terminated at York and cancelled onward, with no train south for over 90 minutes, so I abandoned the trip. TrainSplit refunded one ticket but refused the other because I didn’t travel back to my starting station. That’s not a condition under passenger rights law when you’re facing an hour-plus delay.

I got a “final response”, then a director-level refusal telling me to go to LNER instead, then a reply partly in capital letters. They only paid after the Rail Delivery Group, which licenses them, stepped in. Even then they called it a one-off exception.

Won’t use them again.

Amazing prices

Truly a great app. You won’t find such cheap tickets anywhere else! They’re amazing. Do be aware that you’ll be changing trains often and if that’s something you don’t want to do then I’d advise against purchasing. For everyone else this is an absolutely fantastic app. 10/10

Love it.

This is the best and most useful train app I’ve come across. I use the railway for leisure and like to have a different outward journey to the return. This app makes this really simple. I can easily plan a route from Swindon to York via Kings Cross and return via Cheltenham Spa and there is no booking fee. It also gives split ticket options and the map feature is a lovely addition. FAQ

What does TrainSplit do?

TrainSplit helps you save money on train tickets by splitting your journey into multiple tickets. It uses a powerful search engine to find the cheapest travel options available through split ticketing, potentially saving you up to 40% on your fare.

How does splitting a train journey work?

Instead of buying one ticket for your entire journey, you purchase multiple tickets for segments of your trip. For example, a Birmingham to Leeds journey might be split into Birmingham to Derby, Derby to Sheffield, and Sheffield to Leeds tickets, often resulting in a lower total cost.

Do I have to change trains when using split tickets?

No, you do not need to get on and off the train. You can stay onboard for your entire journey. The only exception might be if you are traveling in First Class, where you may need to move seats if they have been pre-allocated, but you will not need to disembark.

Can I book my tickets through the app?

Yes, once TrainSplit's search engine finds the most affordable travel plan for your journey, you can proceed to book your tickets directly through the app. The app also offers e-tickets for supported routes, which are stored within the app for convenience.

Is TrainSplit free to use?

Based on the provided information, the app is free to use. It does not mention any subscription fees or in-app purchases for its core functionality of finding and booking split train tickets.
